New York to Boston Bock
« on: February 22, 2009, 04:45:49 PM »
If I said I was going to Bock from New York to Boston you may think He's mad !
If I said I was going to do it in one day you'd think. He's Bonkers !
What if I was to say would you like to join me ?
You'd say I've finally lost it !  :Ctwitcy:

But....
I'm not talking of that New York to Boston in the USA a distance of 220 mile !
I'm talk about New York to Boston in Lincolnshire a distance of 11 miles  :)
It's still a long way so it's not for everyone, but just think if you did it !
You could say " I've Bock for New York to Boston ".
And a lot of poeple would jump to the wrong conclusions.
If you don't want to put them streight then let them think you did 220 miles.  :D

New York isn't much more than a small village and Boston's a only a small town in the flat area of Fens of Lincolnshire. The route is mainly open road ( I'll check the route for safety before hand ). Alone the way we can/will stop for breaks I will arange a support car to carry food and drink and if poeple can't make it to the next stop.

This would be more in the way of a challange than a meet but would be a completely different meet to most.

It would almost be a half marathan but we are not racing, but we could get sponsored to complete it and raise money for a charity  :Csmile:

THIS WOULD BE SOMETIME LATE SUMMER if anyone thinks they'd like a challange that would really push them let me know so we set a date that you can join me !?

Like I said I'd like to make less of a race more a friendly bock ?
This would be apartly on the road side so maybe safe to race. Not to say we couldn't get some speed up, would be pointless to walk when jogging is easier ?

well obviously not a race, just a light jog to test limits, i know i can't keep up full speed for very long without making silly mistakes and falling over

Some Bockers say that these are not meant for going long distances !
Last year I would often bock the 4 miles to town spent the day there and bock home again.

This is just an idea of what would happen:-

I said the distance is 11 miles so if you add all the mucking about on route we could be talking more 15 miles.

Starting at 11am in New York
If we take a break every 3 miles
Each break of half hour.
We should be able to cover the distance in around 5 hours.
We would there for be in Boston around 5pm.

Get something to eat and if we you stand still bock .... You'd doing well :)

5 hours is easy, as long as there's a good water supply, maybe a toilet stop a couple of times aswell, did nearly 5 hours of pretty constant bocking today

Hey DK, RAF Coningsby do the Boston Slog for charity every year. It's from RAF Coningsby through New York to Boston and back which is 26 miles but you can do it one way (13 miles) and get a lift bac. I did it on a bike last year but this year I was planning to do it on Bock's. I was gonna invite people to do it with me as soon as it started to get organised on camp, they should let you join in as it's for charity but I'll have to check. We'll have St. John's Ambulance support plus RAF medics and they come looking for you if you take too long, they'll also have RAF personnel at check points too handing out water. Only problem is it's usually a week day but I'll let you know as soon as I hear anything

I'm off the try to enter the 2010 London Marthan Bocking !

I'm the only member on my Face Book page has it was more a way of setting a goal.

It's Coningsby to Boston and back if you wish. You can get a lift back from Boston to Coningsby but you can stay in Boston. Depends where you leave you're car

Schoie this may sound odd seeing has you did this event last year but a workmate say that RAF Coningsby do a "Fun run" from Boston to Coningsby ? He adamant that this is the one you are talking about ?
Is their two differeny race on different days or is he wrong ?
What charity is it for ( I'm in anyway LOL )

If it's a full 26 miles and your planning to do the whole thing you can count me in the whole way with you. I hope everyone of us who turn up will do it to. It'll be a hard but rewarding day and raise money for a charity as well.

Schoie you'll not be on your own

I think if he can get us involved I think you would kick yourself if you didn't at least try the whole distance ?
Your legs would be killing you the next day and you'd probably want to kill me for getting you to do it.  :D

He'll be on about the same one, we only do 3 mile fun runs once a month, they only do the Boston Slog once a year and it's definately for charity, if it isn't I did it as a charity last time anyway there's nothing stopping you. They usually advertise for it a couple of months before it happens. As soon as they do I'll ring the organiser, who will prob be an officer and see if we can join in. Can't see it being a problem but I'll find out.

Before the event I'll probably do a couple of 3 mile runs etc to see if 26 miles is realistic, if I believe I could do it in the time restaints, I think it's 8 hours or so, I would but I doubt I'll be that good by then.

I'll keep you all posted.

well i'm looking forward to this happening, and 26 miles in 8 hours is a doddle, could walk that on foot, and i've managed to bock for just over 10 hours straight before, so it's nto too hard, it's when you say let's jog half of it or similar that it'll get challenging

so yeah definately in, though travel will probably pretty horrible for me, and only if it isn't in themiddle of exams etc

I'm hopeing to enter the 2010 London Marthon !?
Only problem I have with training is my M110 feel soft once I've covered a couple of miles ?
I hope my S's hold up better but never tried ?
Going any distance on Bock is best at a jog has you get a kick off the spring we should make it in way under 8 hours.
