Legalities?

Does anyone know if it is 100% legal to run on pavements in the UK on Pro-Jump stilts?
If the police saw you running at 20mph along a pavement - do they have power to arrest you - or take the stilts off you?

PS Before I get mauled... I am not condoning runnig at any speed on public pavements as there is risk of injury to pedestrians and yourself if a car pulls out of a drive etc. I just wondered on the legal technicalities.  Safety is number 1 concern

How can it not be legal?

Not like they have wheels or rocket boosters (now there's a thought).
I'd say as long as you have safety gear on then the cops can go jump - get it?

I actually intend on getting some flourescent gear and some lights to go out running on the road with them at night but only because the roads where I go running are more suitable then the pavement. It cant be any different to a cyclist on the road.

I unofficially spoke to a copper in the park recently and he couldnt see why it would be anymore illegal than skating. He said the most anyone could really do if they really wanted was to tell you not to use them without due care and protective equipment. So places such as parks and stuff are cool but going around a shopping centre on a saturday morning might not be a good idea.
He thought they were cool and said the police should have some lol.

picture it, poilceman chasing suspect... suspect gets into car... policeman attempts to get into car... suspect escapes while police man falls in a heap next to car... hehe

i did a wedding for a police man at the weekend

he sad there is nothing they can do they dont have an engine or moving parts so that means they can be used with caution on a pavement

he did say they could do you for not wearing a helmet  but most of them like every one else just wants a look

please dont blame me if you get arrested

i dont use parafin  or petrol     i use olive oil to coat my mouth i have a milk alergy

Hi Shaun,

I would question your policeman friend some more.  How can he say that they cannot nick you for using projump stilts on the pavement, then say that  they CAN nick you for not wearing a helmet???

Whilst I am unaware of any laws preventing the use of stilts on public pavements - I am pretty sure there are NO laws on wearing a helmet whilst using them... like pedal cycles, it is recomended by everyone of course - but ultimateley it is down to the users discretion, no law involved.

I agree on the helmet, however if you ever get in a situation where the police are being quite confrontational (or maybe you are towards them!) then I would expect them to use the words "in the interest of public safety blah blah blah" and remember a copper can slap an asbo on you for looking at him the wrong way so try not to annoy them and always respect others and the surroundings.

after falling over the other day i was glad i was all padded up and had my helmet on
(first time for falling over)

if you are concerned about this subject you can always go to your nearest police station and see what they say

only passing on what i found out in a passing chat
