An update to Paul's recent post (I was unable to submit it in his thread).
The contest is actually from the 16th to the 19th September inclusive with events taking place on all 4 days.
For those that can only make the Saturday and Sunday, a 2 day pass to include hotel and meals is also available for 35 euros until July 31st.
The last time I flew to the UK from Toulouse I landed at Gatwick and the flight was with EasyJet. I don't know whether it's possible to fly with RyanAir but I think it very likely.
Here's the details I just posted on pp forum:
The first one was just outside of Paris and it rained.
The second one was in Sarrebourg in the north east of France. It rained and it was cold.
This year, to guarantee warm weather, it is being held in Toulouse, south of France, and only 15 minutes from the airport!
Some heavyweight sponsors are involved so that participation costs are considerably subsidised. The town hall has provided an athletics stadium, and indoor facilities in the unlikely event of rain. Various new trials have been added to make it more fun than ever. And to keep you occupied when you aren't participating in a competition various other new and wild sports will be made available for you to have fun.
A full breakdown to include booking form is available at http://skyppy-world.com/News/french-powerbocking-contest-2011-english.html
All bookings made prior to July 31 benefit from privileged tariffs. For example, the tariff for all 4 days to include hotel, all meals, and competition fees is only 68 euros. To put that into perspective, one night in the hotel would normally cost that much or more if you factor in breakfast. After July 31 it will increase to 78 euros.
If you have any questions I will do my best to answer them or I will get the answers from the organizers.
Please copy this post to club forums, blogs, noticeboards and on Facebook.
A professional video will be made of the event which will be made available to all participants FOC and free of copyright.
-
me and Carl will be booking our flights in the next couple weeks so if anyone is interested now is the time to speak up :P
-
Doesn't Gizmo want to come? Last year she said she would.
Come on UK, you are guaranteed to have the time of your lives and what's more, if you have never seen Toulouse before, it's a really beautiful city!
-
I've not even heard about this before.......sounds interesting :D
-
Hi PBC,
Do you know which accomodation / hotel is being used? Not that it really matters, but I'm thinking about going and curious to look it up on 'tinterweb.
I would fly sleezyjet direct from Bristol if I did go.

It would be difficult for me to be exact because they are using several hotels due to the amount of people coming. Of course they are all budget priced hotels such as Formule 1, Etap Hotel, Appart City, Hotel Balladins.
Meals will not be had in hotels. As with previous contests, restauration facilities will be installed just for us and meals are being supplied by the hypermarket chain "Auchan" who is one of the event's sponsors. The idea is to keep everyone together so that mealtimes are also part of the video.
In case you haven't already seen it, here's the video of last year's championship with special guest appearances from Paul (Self), Katy (Gizmo), and Alexander Boeck:
-
Cheers for that. It's ok, it give me a good idea of the type.
I have seen the video from last year, and it looked great.

To everyone that booked for the Toulouse championship, you should now have received a mail with instructions of how to get to the stadium from the airport. The mail also contains details of the hotel however, it states that everyone arriving on the Friday should go straight to the stadium to collect their room keys and list which events they wish to participate in. The stadium is supposed to be staffed by the host association "Kippik" all morning.
In my case, I will not be arriving until the afternoon so this doesn't work for me at all. I'm guessing that some peoples' flights may arrive in the afternoon also. So, I tried contacting Emmanuel the organiser but got his voice mail. I left a message to call me back and as soon as I have heard from him I will update this post.
If anyone is arriving in the evening please can you let me know as someone will need to get your room keys on your behalf. Economy hotels in France have a nasty habit of not employing any staff and remain closed after 18:00. The only way to get in after that time is if you already have your keys.
Hopefully, none of the UK participants have booked just for the weekend because the championship physically starts at 10:00 on Saturday morning. Competitors must be at the stadium before 09:30.
-
Much appreciated that you are keeping us informed, I'm quite disappointed with the lack of communication from the organisers however, sent two emails 10 days back still waiting for a reply!
-
Yes, I know the feeling. I would go so far as to say that the organisation has been appalling, especially compared with last year's championship hosted by the Hoff Riser club. They did an amazing job and went out of their way to insure everybody's needs were catered for. I'm crossing my fingers that this club has not bitten off more than it can chew.
-
Carl and I, and maybe Paul will be driving down...ROAD TRIP! :)
-
Did you receive the mail with all the docs?
-
PBC, me and Tim have not received anything, i have sent Manu a message on Facebook but no reply :(
-
I have attached the documents we were sent Carl. The English translation looks as though it was done with Google because it makes no sense but I think you will be able to understand what they are trying to say anyway. If you don't, feel free to ask me any questions.
There is also a document wth the contest regulations. This they have not bothered to translate which is rather annoying as it is too technical for me to translate. You can attempt it with Google if you wish however, I think everything will be explained when you get there.
On a lighter note, I think this will be the first competition where the French will not win the 1st prize. There's some pretty heavy players coming from Germany, Russia, and the UK so I'm going to enjoy watching you guys stick it to them! On the other hand, there will be plenty of French and German heavy hitters on Speedjumper Professionals which gives them a distinct advantage. We just launched the new 7leagueboot GT; unfortunately, nobody will have it in time for the championship.

Final update...
The organisers will be at the stadium until 20:00 tomorrow (Friday) and until midday on Saturday. Everyone MUST go to the stadium first to collect their hotel room pass cards, as well as the rest of the paraphernalia they intend giving us. From the stadium to the hotel is a short ride on the metro. Apparently the metro is opposite the stadium and stops right outside the hotel. If coming by car you are probably already en route in which case you would be headed to the stadium in any event.
Soooo, see y'all tomorrow!! :PJ101Ian:

Becky got 8.75m and came 2nd (womens)
Great news so far, giving the french something to worry about.
Personally I dont see the point of a triple jump, whether on bocks or not. I mean what relevance is it, where does it end? Quardruple jump anyone?
-
Wow thats some results
Well done all
:Claugh: Only problem is you lot probably won't get invited next year :Claugh:

Oh yes they will Jason! They have made themselves extremely popular. We really love them. They are great fun to be around and bloody good athletes to boot.
I'm not saying anything more for the moment as I think it's only fair to let Becky and Co tell you all about it when they get back. Tomorrow they will do a Pro-Jump photo shoot in the town centre.
-
News from Becky this morning was the sun was hiding and it was pouring!!! Seems like they had an awesome time however
-
Sounds like it is a good time had by all
Think I might have to book some time off and visit next year

Think I might have to book some time off and visit next year
For the moment no club has come forward to host the championship next year so we were wondering if one of the UK clubs might like to organize one? The French would love to come over and participate. Maybe the Germans and Russians too...
-
We'll do it.
Someone email me. matt@welshbockers.co.uk
I need information to take to the sports council here and get it sorted.
-
Good 'ol Locky ...always the man for the job!!
I will speak with the French Federation and see what we can get you. It will all be in French so will you be able to translate it using Google or do you need it done professionally?
-
I'd like to help Matt! :)
We were also saying it would be good to have an online record somewhere of all the results from all the events so that people can see how the sport progresses.

It would be good to know if there is any records from the 1st & second year, I think there is a record post somewhere Ill dig it up later that we can sticky.
-
All I can remember were the high jump records.
Paris (2009) - Yannick Carton 2.19 metres
Sarrebourg (2010) - Florent Chartier 2.40 metres
However, I'm sure they have been archived somewhere, maybe even on PP forum. I'll look into that for you.
-
Hey guys,
I would love to be involved in organisation of this, so keep me in the loop :)
Ian
-
Just to tell you that I hope you guys who came in Toulouse had some fun (as much as possible).
I'll share my video of the event soon !!!
In my opinion, almost everything during the 3/4 days could have been much better.... And I'm not talking about the weather :Cwink:
Some of my bockers friends will think twice before moving to a place for such an event... :Cconfused:
See you soon ! :Claugh:
-
Pazz's awesome video of the comp!
-
The beauty of editing is that you can hide all the rain, the holes in the track, Aidan's fight with the cat, etc. ;)
Regretfully, Pazz was not there to capture my Opel being converted into a Pro-Jump HOMO by team 101 and the EA's. :Ccry:
-
Excellent vid Pazz, thanks for sharing :) I heard that organisation could have been a lot better and there was a few injuries, but Becky & the lads that went from the UK really enjoyed themselves and looks like they made some good friends too!
-
Good times!
-
Good times!
Yeah, especially when Tim and Carl returned to their newly customized Nissan Micra before leaving. :Cwink:
Incidentally, although I took the tape off that you guys used to defile my Opel with, the glue remained. Within the days that followed dust stuck to it and I'm again driving around with HOMO on the doors and PRO-JUMP.CO.UK! on the rear window.
My wife thinks the best part of the video is the bit where Carl wears a condom over his head. Powerbocking contest? More like a non-stop party IMHO!! :Claugh:
