Title: Ankle movement
Post by: Bacon Miller on June 17, 2010, 08:35:03 PM
This isn't really a problem with the stilts, but it could be (or it could be my technique). After extended periods of time on the stilts (more than 15 minutes) when I get off, my ankles really hurt because they haven't moved (as in any movement - sideways, being straightened etc).
When I bock, I lock my ankles as I step so that I can lift the stilts up - or else they will pull my toes down. Is my technique wrong?

Perhaps get EVO or Flow bindings to reduce foot movement within the bindings?

The problem isn't my feet moving in the bindings. On the contrary, they can't move at all.

yup better bindings are probably a good idea. i have rome sds bindings that i took off my snowboard (but left the original toe one on). they are so secure i i done need to do up the toe one.

Perhaps invest in some Powerskips with tilting footplates, but they are expensive.
I think you will get used to it anyway.

Well I have the Projump+ bindings, but I don't know what the normal ones are like.

The normal ones are horrible in my opinion, and the EVO bindings are the same as the PJ+ bindings.

it could also be that your doing them up to tight (mine hurt loads if i do). i have the same problem with snowboarding, i do mi bindings so they are to tight and then my foot gos numb and i cant do anything. you will be suprisesed at how much you could actualy loosen them off.

Can your feet move in your shoes as I had a loose pair of shoes that were horrid to bock in

I tend to use something like walking shoes/trainers (Karrimore are my favorite)

But you might need something with ankle support like a light hiking boot that comes up your ankle to immobilise it more

The trainers that I have do provide me with ankle support - my ankle doesn't move at all. :P The weather was pants, so I didn't try loosen etc the bindings.

Been out on my stilts since 11am (just got back) and although my feet hurt, my ankles aren't doing too bad. I tried to walk around as relaxed as I could and I loosened my bindings, which seemed to work pretty good. :)

What I find is that jumping they don't need to be tight. When I'm running I need them as tight as possible though.
