Ok all at last the latest instalment in the Hoofies line
MK3 Hoofies
I think I have found the ideal material (Trail bike tyres) they last a long time (don't ask me how long I haven't worn a set out yet) so far mine have been on about 2 months and looks loike they will last a fair bit longer
Grip is as good as most Hoofs not quite as good as Hoofies Mk1/2 material in the wet but close one very important difference is that as they are made from motorcycle tyres they have to be worn in before getting maximum grip
The best way to wear them in is to have a good jumping session (about an hour or 2 depending on how hard you bock) on dry concrete or something similar
When they are first fitted they are like most tires in that they need wearing in before they reach max grip (about 5 mins on a bus lane or 15 on normal road/concrete so go slow at first especialy in the wet
The first pic is the kit you will get it consists of 2 Hoofies, 8 bolts and 16 nuts
This will cost £10 + £1 p&p in the UK (other countrys postage at cost) PM me for details and to order or check classified (when I figgure out how to work it :Claugh:)
Now the bad bit you will be buying a Kit containing bits of rubber tyre and some nuts and bolts to do with as you want.
I don't guarantee them to do anything so if you hurt yourself don't blame me ( ie no guarantee )
I am making these for you lot not for profit as the amount I stand to make on them won't even pay what I make an hour at work but I enjoy making them and hope to enjoy seeing you all using them
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
Screw the bolts into the holes shown in this pic (they will be a tight fit) push them all the way into the deep holes marked (Deep)
-
These two pics show where the bolts go and how they should look
-
Fit the Hoofie to the hoof and run a nut on each bolt as shown below and tighten untill they just pull up (not too tight or they can pull through the rubber) If you can run 2 nuts on top and no thread shows as in the second picture that is tight enough
The only trouble you might have is clearance to get the second nut on the back bolts as the main hoof/spring bolt gets in the way so you might want to put both nuts on the rear bolts before you tighten the first one (it makes more sence when you see it and thanks to Spud for noticing this one )
-
Next add the second nut to each bolt and tighten it to lock the first nut in place
You will need two 8mm spanners one to hold the bottom nut and the other to tighten the top nut as in this pic (you can use a set of needle nose pliers on the bottom nut if your careful)
I also use loctite on the nuts (not really needed unless you are extreme :Claugh:)
-
This is how they should look when finished the top nut locks the lower one and stops them coming undone (check them often after fitting to make sure they don't come loose)
You will notice a gap at the front as shown in the second pic don't worry about it this is normal and I didn't find it a trip hazzard during testing
-
IMPORTANT
I must say once more that it is very important to use them for the first time on a dry rough surface as one of my testers went straight into a gym with them brand new and got very little grip but clive and I have both used them in the gym after a couple of hours on concrete and they grip just as well as the MK2 Hoofies

Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
Ooh, that's an incentive! I'll try and get some money off y parents
-
Jason, did i ever mention that i was going to ask one of my friends about spare trials tires?
Is that where you got the idea? >:(
Nahh, dont worry, i'm not accusing you of stealing my idea :P even if you had, it wouldnt matter... i probably never actually said about it on here.
Anyhow. Are the bolts used in these the standard ones? or are they different bolts? if so... would you be so kind as to post me some/pm me what type they are....
If you send me a PM, we can arrange things, because i can get my own tires...
Thanks :P
- Kaz
(please say you understood all that :P)
-
I've been searching for the right tyres for over a year now Kazbahn and quite a few people have used tyres (car and bike) for ages
It was the fixing method that had stopped most people using them and the tread spacing I managed to get round the tread spacing by making a drill and template system that allows me to drill a set depth into the rubber (try drilling rubber and you will see the difficultys :Claugh:)
The bolts are a good quality philips head machine screw (not really cheap ones ) nothing special but they have to be sunken below the tread depth or you will just slide along on the screw heads :Claugh:
If you are going to be making your own make sure you get nylon belted tyres not steel as you will have a tough job cutting the steel belted ones also make sure you go for a soft sticky rubber compound as some of the longer lasting tyres I tried were like bocking on ice
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
Thanks for that jason, i'll keep all those ideas in mind when i'm making mine :P
-
They look nice
well done Jason
-
they look mint jason, im gonna pm you with an idea for the hooves sky high have been needing, i think with this style we could get em perfect
-
lynch is first to buy woooooo
-
they are on
and lets see how long they last me the projump ones last me about 3/4 mounts of use they see how much i get out of there
-
Glad you got them so quick Lynch just goes to show the Post Office can still do it
Don't forget to give them a good bock on a course surface before any gym work
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
will do and they work better on grass that the pj ones :P
-
And in Mud :Claugh:
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
Well lynch had them on this weekend i think they help before paul broke the spring! lol
Can i buy a set.
-
dude those hoofies were amazing i did not slip at all on that wet grass was flipping all over the show they were awesome !!
-
Flipping on wet grass? I can't do that without bocks! These sound great! =)
-
they really are the best and i was first to buy them hehehehehehehheheheheh :Ctongue:
-
Yep, awesome on the wet grass. It's the best thing about them. On the concrete I would say the grip is good. About level with the normal hoofs. A little better but when you take them to grass, even if it is soaking you have good grip. Like amazing grip. No worse than on any other surface. I love them :)
:spudT:
-
Awesome. =) I sent Jason an idea I had for a hoof mod a while ago. Hopefully he'll make them and I can be the first to try that version. =)
-
I have done a bit of work on that Brendan but not much time at the moment (work and diy sadly :Claugh:) but it is looking good
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:

Awesome. Happy to hear it. =) I'm having a good day. ^_^

Any news on the newest version Jason? =)
...if you're sick of me asking just tell me to shut up. I'm only posting because I'm bored of drawing, so thought I'd have a break and forum hop for a while. =)
-
hi
could I buy a pair of MK3 Hoofies from you?
:Hoofies2:
-
Hi Brendan
I have done a couple of mock-ups and got some ally bent to shape but I am still trying to find a way to attach them properly and fit some rubber on them
Work keeps getting in the way at the moment :Claugh: but I will keep at it and hopefully get them done so prod me every now and them and I will get there eventually
Gizmoqueen
I've sent you a PM
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
I may order some MK3 next week Jason :) if possible
-
You can mate and that will be almost out of stock
I am in the process of ordering in some more tyres to make them as I only have a couple of pairs left
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
Ok, well put a pair back for me please :)
How long will they last?
-
Depends on how often you use them :Claugh:
All kidding aside mate mine last so long I can't remember when I fitted them but clive is only on his second set and I think he got his firt when I started making them so whenever this thread started
I have worn out 2 pairs and am half way through another set so I would say in excess of 40 hrs but it really depends on what you are using them for (constant jumping will wear quicker that walking) and the surface you are bocking on so bocking on antislip crossings wears faster than tarmac
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
I bock every were, grass, tarmac, umm... and more
My PJ's last a week normally :(
DC
-
ive been advised by the brillant naz towards you jason,so can you pm me as i wish to get a pair soon as please mate, and also how do i pay you

http://www.projumpforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=3132.0
It is a walkthrough for fitting them and yes you remove the PJ rubbers first
Paypal is the easiest way to pay and it is £10 +£1 UK p&p

Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
hey there are you still making these :Cwideeyed: and is there a new version as no one has posted here for a while??? i was thinking of buying some when my current ones wear out
-
Yep still making them and most people just PM me when they want them so this thread goes quiet
So thanks for livening it up madmonky13 and just shout when you want some
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
sorry but im a bit confused :Cconfused:
what do you mean by PM ???
by the way are you doing the sport relief in southampton :PJ101Ian:
or are you going to the bracknell meet this weekend??? :Cerr: :Cwideeyed:
thanks
-
PM is a personal message
If you click on a persons user name on here (Jason in my case) it takes you to another page and you can send messages to that person only
Saves people having to put e-mail or personal details on here where they could be harvested
Don't think I'm going to either at the moment but might try hard for the sports relief one
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
whats your estimated postage time, to reading uk??
-jordan
-
One to two days depending on how Royal mail are feeling :Claugh:
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
woo this looks great for rough grounds and traction
thnx for the info
-
I put my hoofies on today and went out for a test on a few different surfaces - sloped pavements, gravelly paths, grass/damp grass and old concrete. The grip is far better than the standard feet, which I could feel move underneath me especially on grass. Love them! ^^
-
Glad you like them mate :Csmile:
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
jason any chance u can bring me a pair along to W4l?
IVE 'TURNED' MY WARN 1 ROUND SO LOADS OF WEAR LEFT BUT BE NICE 2 HAVE SPARES
oops soz 4 shouting
-
I can Q
Have you drilled the extra holes in the back of your hoofs as I have some without the counterbored holes so if you rotate them they will last longer
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
like u xpect me to understand that :Cswoon:
but i think not maybe just talk about it on sunday un if need be ill just 'glide' the last km
-
No problems Q I'll bring a pair of each and you can see if you like the idea of the holeless ones
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
ive been watching this post for as long as i can remember, and i never believed that they could be as good aseveryone keeps saying, but they REALY are!!! i love them jason, they work GREAT!!!
thanks
jordan
-
Glad you like them Jordan
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
My set of hoofies have worn down to the screws, so I sent you an order for 2 more sets, Jason. :)
...I use my stilts too much. LOL
-
...I use my stilts too much. LOL
WHAT to much....no such thing!! :-p
-
I'll get them in the post tomorrow mate
Thanks
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
Thanks Jason. :D Here's hoping I don't have an issue taking the hoofies off, since a couple of the screw faces (where you put the screwdriver) have worn over. D:
-
Yep mate I have had that problem in the past
Two solutions
First you can sometimes grab the head with pliers and undo it that way
If that fails get a hacksaw (junior one is easiest and cheep) then just cut a slot across the head to make it into a normal screw head (take care not to cut into the ally hoof bit )
The second one has always worked if the first one fails for me
Hope this helps
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
Awesome tips. Hopefully we have a hacksaw, since both of our sheds burned down the other week :| Bloody kids.
-
Well the 2 sets of feet came today and I found putting the screws through a set was much easier than before. And taking off the old hoofies wasn't difficult at all. :) Gonna get a lot of practice tomorrow.
-
Yep mate the screws get easier with practice
By the way We are meeting in Basingstoke on sunday not to far from Slough
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
I don't have enough money for the journey to Basingstoke and back on this short notice D: Maybe another time. :p
-
OK mate see you next time
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
Hey, i was just wondering how these would be attached to the exo's? With the boot just been a solid piece of rubber, self tappers and glue? :Cconfused:
Cheers
-
Simple answer mate is they wern't designed to fit the new hoofs
A few people have glued and screwed them on and they seem to work
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
