Hey guys n gals!
Just been searching the interweb for crash matts, and after finding i dont have £180(!) spare was wondering how easy it would be, and how much it would cost, to make your own!?
If this is a bad idea, what other options are there that dont cost a fortune!?
Cheers people! Tok

inflatable mattresses maybe? Don't know how well they would work mind.

Sound like a good idea but if you don't get it right you could end up getting hurt.
And it would be also a better idea to find somewhere or one with mats to help teach you ? Even the best get it wrong !
Not to say if there a group of you couldn't do it ?

I use an inflateable mattress designed for camping but I dont use it primarily as a crash mat, and I wouldnt advise doing so at all.
I use mine as the crash matt we have is only 6" deep so we put the inflateable underneath it to give it a nice cushion as a 6 incher is not enough to say land flat on your back or tailbone without risking injury.
I'd definately say this is a no go. If you are going to do it, You need at least 3 of them on top of each other and they dont last long so you might as well just buy a proper crash mat or go find a hall who will let you use theirs :)

I managed to get some 4" foam for free from work (quite a lot of it actually) and have sewn up some covers for it out of those woven plastic tarpaulins that are so cheap and hard wearing
I made them about 4ft x 3ft and made 10 of them so I can lay them out flat or double them up to make a smaller thicker mat I also fitted eyeletsround the edges so I can tie them together (to stop me slipping down the middle of them)
Due to broken wrist and inclement weather I have only tested them by jumping up in the air and falling on them but they seem to work well
You can see a finnished one behind the PJ not verry big but when you jion 10 together they make quite an area an they can be stored in a pile in the loft or garage when not in use

Ok awesome thanks guys! I like the sound of the foam idea the best! Was my 1st idea but thought i'd ask if an other had tried 1st! Gotta try and find some foam though now!

Don't use fire extinguisher foam, it's more slippy than soft ;D

hi, it may be a nice idea if you havnt got the cash :P but i would consider you save for one my 10x6ft one cost me £290 but is well worth it i learnt alot of tricks and flips with it (this is without powerisers) including gain airs, inverse side flips all that stuff :P also its alot of fun if you have a trampoline too as you can do crazy sh*t off it onto the mat :P...cant wait for my pro jumos (tomorow!!!) i will get learning and make a vid =) p.s have you tryed ebay?

I don't know if they still advertise in it but a few foam suppliers use to have adds in Exchange and Mart
But I'll warn you it ain't cheap (unless your lucky like me and get a batch free ;D)

I wouldn't trust one of those :P
I burst a brand new one this very morning!

Buying foam is expensive and unless you are handy with a sewing machine or know someone who is, I would say save up and buy a proper crash mat......or just find a gym that will let you use theirs.

my dad works in a deleivery firm and he gets s**t loads of foam and stuff that the firm has to pay to dispose of ill see if i can get some of tht for free he also gets free wood!! like 2 tonnes of it :P

bed matteress may work if it hasnt been said i wasnt reading

They would work but if there were spring matresses it wouldn't be advised as there is a chance the spring comes through and goes into your back ;D
