Title: Lincoln Training
Post by: Charlie B on February 07, 2008, 12:17:22 PM
I can now confirm the following

Saturday 1st March 2-4 PM

Venue : North Kesteven Sports Centre (not North Hykeham Leisure centre)
Moor Lane
North Hykeham, Lincoln, LN6 9AX

01522 883311

Cost for Hall £40 will split equally among those who turn up. I will book and pay you provide the cash on the day.

I have tried to provide activities that will enable all to participate regardless of thier ability or age

We have two coaches attending. The Sports Centre have kindly agreed to pay for thier time. One is a gymnastics coach, the other a Parcour coach.

Activities will be slit into the following areas

Area 1: Gymnasatics Coach will provide advice and direction

Basic Tumbling
Beginners area will be where you learn to flip using a spring board and mats

Advanced tumbling
Develop basic tricks on bocks
Refine your more advanced tricks on bock

Area 2 :Jumping : Parcour Coach to provide advice & direction

Basic jumping
Taking off & landing
Jumping small obstacles

Advanced jumping
Gaining height
Jumping obstacles
Jumping onto platforms

Area 3
Bocking basketball or team games

Safety Requirements
Knee pads, wrist pads, elbow pads & helmet
If you do not have these they can be provided on site

Hoof Safety
The centre is concerned that the floor must not be damaged therefore you need to ensure that your hoofs are covered completely by standard clam shell type tyre socks

Hydration/nutrition
There is food and drink available on site / please ensure that you have enough money or bring food / drink to ensure you have energy and are sufficiently hydrated
Please also bring a water bottleAll other issues ie first aid, health & safety, insurance etc have been covered by me and the Centre

Numbers
The venue can easily support 20/30 bockers. I am aiming for 20

Support
The team at the centre are working hard to support us in developing this event, both financially and also by working with the media to promote the event.
This is agreat opportunity to create an event that will give you some real training benefits and the sport some much needed profile. Please can you let me know that you are attending. Not interested in maybe`s just definite yes`s

Lets bock

Centres main concern is that no metal from the hoof is capable of coming into contact with the floor and damaging it. Big problem , big cost.

The original tyre sock design where you bend a tyre then secure it with jubilee clips is the clam shell style that will cover the hoof completely.

Not too concerned as long as all the metal edges of the hoof are covered

Just a note but there is one other place on a  stilts where metal could mark the floor !
It's the nut'n'bolt on the top of the hoof ?  :o

Its rare to get one coach on hand let alone two!

These are the ones based on Bill C's original idea see http://www.projumpforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=1050.0 click on kiyabob & GB's pic and you will see what I mean.

Ill be there work think im at a ''wedding'' lol

i have brand new hoofs on my bocks they been used for about a half an hour at best and doubt they will get much action before the meet now.

If i need to wear sox SX's will you bring some of you lace ones for me to use while im at the meet
Title: Re: Lincoln Training

Ideally the tyre socks on the picture are best as they cover all metal.

the floor is the plastic type blue covering so I guess they are converned about metal ripping it as the hall would then be out of action until it is repaired which would cost a lot of money.

Getting a lot of interest from local sports workers so really need to get as many there as possible. Also talkiing to BBC radio & TV and extreme sport press

Title: Re: Lincoln Training
Post by: Charlie B on February 08, 2008, 08:35:00 PM
The local Community TV and radio are not always interested in major events with lots of people. Sometimes local quirky stories like this are interesting.

ie Young people, new sport, positive encouragement from others (Local Council)

Numbers attending are not the issue increasing the profile of the sport is. Most TV and radio news items are only 1 minute & 30 seconds including interviews. That means footage of only one or two tricks.

Getting the message out on local TV should encourage others to join in and make the training day more likely to be sustainable.

Also works for the political organisations that run the centre. Good press would help get additional support. We have already got approx £100 worth of coaching paid for by the centre.

having said all that the more we can get the better it looks.
Title: Re: Lincoln Training
Post by: webmaster on February 08, 2008, 08:40:51 PM
totally agree with you there, its not all about huge numbers, who ever turns up and as long as they are having fun & showing the right attitude it will be great for the sport. Any positive coverage bocking is given whether that be a lone bocker strutting his stuff or a group of bockers doing all sorts it can only be good for the sport

Title: Re: Lincoln Training
Post by: hybrid_hex on February 25, 2008, 10:42:29 PM
Just looked at the bus times, would have to get the 1st bus, and It would get us there no quicker, just means 2hours 49 on a Bus, nd the return yourney by train If we got the 1559 train and only spend just over an hour there, then we would get back at 1901, but if we stay the full 2hours, we would then have to wait until the 1809 train and we wouldnt get back untill 2156, would be a long day with lots of traveling, Im going to probably go for the trains (even though its a bus to Ely) because I hate bus rides! We shall see.

just means u have to leave pretty early

What is it a Degree in?? If its engineering you can be an Engineering officer (start as a JENGO Junior Engineering Officer) the go to SENGO (senior Eng....)  Any other Degree and you will be looking at anything, It will all depend on your aptitude and appearence, If you dont look or talk right, then you dont stand a chance of getting past the interviews.

Stik

Start time is 2:00 pm so hopefully the hangover will have gone. Finishes at 4:00 pm

Radio Lincolnshire have shown interest and have asked to meet with me to pre-record thier Breakfast Presenter having a go on Monday morning

After the event but good for generating publicity for the next one.

BBC local TV were attending but have now had to cancel due to football commitments for outside Broadcasting. Bit of a bummer but Ho Ha

Local press will be attending, I am also taking video & Photographs for the County Sports Website and other sponsors/supporters

Hope you get a good turn out for this CharlieB, the list seems to be going down everytime I look which is a shame esp with a pakour & gym coach to hand...

To all the guests if you are reading this and live near or can make it, call CharlieB and make sure you attend as you will learn plenty, I think there's space for about 30 people but less than 10 have confirmed so far...

We should be leaving soon, so hope to be there on time!   Had to make tyre socks this morning, took bloody ages!  Your howto guides make it look so easy!  I never knew bike tyres were made of such solid stuff, i've wrecked two pairs of small pliars, two Stanley knife blades and a jnr hacksaw blade trying to get through the things.

Anyhow, see you all soon :-)

We had to treat him like a normal passenger, no special treatment, no hand shakes, no pics, no autographs, nothing, plus he had 2 SAS guys sat one either side of him, both with sidearms, so he was left to his own, didnt even get up I dont think.

yep looking at about £6.70 for cheap day return to grantham from peterborough compared to the £12.20 for cheap day return to lincoln from peterborough.
