Title: Bock Box
Post by: aidanh1 on February 08, 2008, 05:11:52 PM
hello anyone that reads this XD

right me and my mate live in an area that isn't very good for jumping off stuff so i have thought of something very smart called my Bock Box i will draw a sketch of it or something to show you but what it basically is, is 3 step's for a bocker to go up and each step is big enough for one bocker to jump off there will be 3 steps which will go about 200 Cm's high (may be small to some of you but for me its a ok height) will be made mostly of wood and maybe some metal on the joins and stuff to keep it strong but i ent the best designer in the world and wondering does anyone have some skill in the designing stuff

They were pictured in May '07, 4 months before you started.  So I never came to this conclusion.  It just clicked that I had heard something along the lines of what you were talking about ages ago. :)

Actually, I have just found pics of the start of the build which show the frame work:-
(http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w191/tfd666/other%20stuff/Photo-0277.jpg)

Also he quoted the height of the steps.
when i get the ply on the tops it'll be 1' 5'', 2' 5'' an 3' 5'',  i figured that was plenty high enough for now :)
tfd...

Hope this helps.

and to stop with the damned banana dancing? lol
as dk said youll get wood cheap as chips in a builders yard, paying on average £10 for a 6x10ft piece of wood which could pretty much cover it.
as for it moving if you put the backend of your "bockbox" on the grass you can pin it to the ground.
alternativly get some rubber on the bottom of it

You could ask a  shop refitter if they've got any wood !?
A good sign would be a skip out side
Remember this wood maybe not be very good but if it free ... just use lots.
But you could be lucky and get some old sheleving units  :)

ALWAYS ASK before take anything out of a skip

Looking at that picture and I notic the you should have put the cross members ontop of the upright  :-\
But they look stronge anyway  :)

If you made the three levels separete you could nest them together to store or moving about
Saying that why you could use the side panels to hold them in place  :)

I'm not thinking of selling these but I wood at a box makers  :)
I could find out what these would cost if we made them up for you Don't think it'll be cheap but would last for years !?

Some CLS timber from B&Q or some 2"x3" from a wood yard may be a best bet

what did he use
Title: Re: Bock Box
Post by: Sx Nutta on February 20, 2008, 04:23:18 AM
looks like 2 by 4 or even 2 by 5, offers good strength in the frame, but the frame could be made stronger by running the short bracers, from the front of the platform to the back of the frame, means there is more strength and means more weigth can be applied to each level

Looks like 36mm by 9mm to me and the weakest piont is the front lip of the steps ( another upright would help )
Is there a cross memeber missing off the botton step ( the top two have them ) ?
If the ply is nice a thick and screwed on tight to the top of the steps it will reinforce the strengh  :)
