Hello all, just wanted an opinion, going skiing for a week, and since we are driving, i can take my bocks, so i have been thinking of a snow bocking mod. Came up with an athletics spike (for running shoes) put through a hole in tyre sock then secured with a nut on the other side, the tyre sock is then just put back on the hoof. My test run is below on a scrap bit of tyre, any thoughts on how it would handle the stress? bearing in mind it doesn't have to last ages just a couple of hours even? Cheers, Chocl8 :)

Something like what merlyn did may work (see below) and also I think Jason mentioned working on something for snow too!

Yeh, i looked at them, but i don't have the hooves that just bolt on and off, so the spikes had to be on the tire socks. Fixed the pictures now, you should be able to see them :)

If you reinforce the tyre you could make a spiked one !
I'm thinking of doing that 8)

I think that would work well tbh

groovy :)

Two bits of advice
The studdies work well on icy grass so you could get some football studs like these
http://www.projumpforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=1025.60 (about half way down )
You need large washers on the back (I use 25mm washers ) or they just pull through (same will happen with the spikes)
The other one I have been working on (stopped due to lack of snow ) was very simple
Get yourself some 20mm machine screws washers and nuts and just bolt them through (screw, washer, tyre, washer, nut ) leaving the threaded ends sticking out (acts like a spike but a lot cheeper and you can use any length)
I made a set up but due to lack of snow and needing the rubber for a set of studdies I didn't take any pics
Hope it works well

cheers jason, this was a last minute mod the day before i left with whatever i could find, so hopefully it will work, however theres supposed to be 50cm of powder so i think i may just sink in anyway, i've got approx. 20cm nuts on them anyway from memory so hopefully it will still work :) going to try them tomorrow, just got to put them together!!! :)
O and i don't think football studs would work as well on ice, or really hard packer snow, they'd be a lot more unstable i think, the athletics studs are a lot more like crampons, which work really well (for climbing up icy waterfalls :D)

easier thing would be to clear the snow, lol :nana:

Its been snowing 6 hours solid here now   exept I cant go bocking and its not laying enough for snow men. I like snow tho. It looks pretty while it falls.
