(bouldering crashmats, not ideal but easily transported around)
If you are learning flips - or anything else that is going to result in your back or arse landing first - then you need a crashmat at LEAST 8" thick. I would say 10" to be safe, 12" is what I'd go for. Size does matter.

yer i no i do gym eny way and can do them on flat ta for the webbys

Nice one Locky
I started looking into buying one and they don't come cheep I was quoted £300 for a reasonably sized 8"
I ended up scrounging some 4" foam (some was bein chucked out at work) and sewing up covers from the cheep plastic tarpaulins
They work fairly well if you pack all 9 together (they are only 4ft X3ft) at least Sx seems to be able to hit them 3 times out of 4 (that last flip was really to close for comfort Sx )
Now and then Gyms sell off the old knackered ones and I know of one person who got one (I think he was well in with the Gym)

you'd be better off going to see them. Going to a place usually gets better results.

Did I ever land on the mat with the last one, lol
-
would a matress work as well ?? or not as gd
-
i would pass matresses, need at least 3 high, and still will not stop you hitting the floor, lol
-
Matresses are a bad idea as the springs in them can do some serious damage to you if they come through the fabric.
Best idea is phoning around all the local gym/sports centres/school halls and telling them what you want to do and see what they say
-
or in my case, try to secure an arrangement, to remove their old crash mats free of charge, lol

yer i have tryed ringging a few places but thay sad thay would ring me bk and havent done so :'( i just wanna learn to flip on my bocks then i wont need it eny more lol

Same here, I am working on two sport centre's which are within a 2 mile radius of me, going to try a third one, 6 miles away, and hope for the best, lol
