(bouldering crashmats, not ideal but easily transported around)

If you are learning flips - or anything else that is going to result in your back or arse landing first - then you need a crashmat at LEAST 8" thick. I would say 10" to be safe, 12" is what I'd go for. Size does matter.

Nice one Locky

I started looking into buying one and they don't come cheep I was quoted £300 for a reasonably sized 8"

I ended up scrounging some 4" foam (some was bein chucked out at work) and sewing up covers from the cheep plastic tarpaulins

They work fairly well if you pack all 9 together (they are only 4ft X3ft) at least Sx seems to be able to hit them 3 times out of 4 (that last flip was really to close for comfort Sx  )

Now and then Gyms sell off the old knackered ones and I know of one person who got one (I think he was well in with the Gym)

you'd be better off going to see them. Going to a place usually gets better results.

i would pass matresses, need at least 3 high, and still will not stop you hitting the floor, lol

Matresses are a bad idea as the springs in them can do some serious damage to you if they come through the fabric.

Best idea is phoning around all the local gym/sports centres/school halls and telling them what you want to do and see what they say

or in my case, try to secure an arrangement, to remove their old crash mats free of charge, lol
