I'm starting to gather all my stuff for Burning Man (3 weeks to go OOOOH!) and I need some tough-assed tyre socks for my bocks that will withstand bocking on a silt alkaline Salt Pan that is Black Rock City (pic here http://images.burningman.com/index.cgi?image=2943&results=3539,3443,3418,3351,3349,3108,2977,2943,2862,2677,340,2490,2489,2451,2440,2168,2101,2098,2095,2077&ord=208/280&skip=200&q_photog=&q_category=nature&q_keyword=&q_year=)
I was going to get Hoofies but the thought of trying to put them together fills me with dread, so I'd prefer some simple-to-fit tyre treads but they MUST be thick and tough. PM me if you have anything suitable. Needs to grip on dusty or gritty surfaces, no worried about water as I'm in a desert all week

Are they tough and hardwearing? PM me with details and price. May try the trainers route too but as long as the toe doesn't stick out front too far cos then i'll prob trip myself up!

I found the PERFECT shoes for the job!
Converse are good. But I went into a few different shoe stores with my bocks, and tried on a whole bunch of different shoes to find the perfect fit! The hoof goes all the way to the end with a snug fit, the grip is fantastic, they look great (especially with bocking pants), and the toe tred is curved for a smooth gait and traction as the foot rolls forwards when walking and running.
They're called 'ALS King Surf' (Size 9 fits the hoof best).
There's a choice of colours. I went for Mens Black & Grey.
& a choice of tred. I prefer the second (though not in that colour!).

Buy them here: http://www.blacks.co.uk/Womens-Surf-Lola/product/082362.aspx?searchbreadcrumbs=surf
There was another great fitting shoe by Addidas, but I went for the ALS shoes because they're more durable. And that's pretty important when bocking. Hope that helps. ;)

Hmm, I only went into one shop, bought a pair for me that I liked the look of, and another pair to fit my bocks! I have had them on for around 6months now, and only just had to turn them around to wear the heel!! So they are deffinately worth it!

hmmmm wonder if I can get them cheaper on eBay (yes I'm skanky) :D
I'm getting some tyre socks from Toddy :D
Did you get weird looks taking stilts into a shoe shop for try-on??????

Gixer, just a quick comment about Toddy's socks. Go to your local cycle shop. The tyres he uses will cost you £9.99 (or they do where I live) and you'll be able to make 2 and a half pairs out of one. Much cheaper than getting them off him.
Those shoes look good Brendan :)

errrm what shop would that be? as the cheepers ones i use are £25 each and ones for this i am going to use ones that are £45?
so if you can get these specilised tyrea and in the right compound for 9.99 i want to know for my bike and all the dhers i know would as well
