Title: Narrow beams and other toys
Post by: Dark Knight on January 07, 2009, 04:15:08 PM
I'm building some equipment for the gym like boxes and high beam bars.
What I like to know is what the narrowest beam you've walked alone as I'm got an idea but need to know what people can manage on ?

i can do standard gym beams pretty easily, they're about 4-6 inches i think, most people can't do them too well XD

thinnest i've done is a single round grind rail, like 2 inches diameter, not that easy

It's just that the wood I can coughs nick is 98mm wide so two wouldn't too tricky for most poeple and one would be a good test of balance and being in a gym we could use crash mats

I'd say as narrow as you can get DK. It would be a challenge to be able to walk and run across something that narrow.

The narrowst thing i've managed yet is the pavement! LOL...

Clive asked me about making boxes at my works ... I'm a box maker I make boxes.

And if you really know me I never wouldn't stop at that.
I'm working on high jump bars and this project balance beams.

An high jump bar ( with luck ) should be ready Saturday and could make more if people like them ? They'll be about 2.5 meters high has some people are getting close to that height and it would be silly not to make them that size.

Balance beam .... still sorting that out but I should have something the FEB meet.

And yet some more "toys"

You'll not say that YBB's have boring gym meets  :Dark_Knight:

I did have some lovely wood sorted out for some 3 meter beams by 148mm ( I plained it I know its 148mm LOL ) but someone nicked it before I nicked it :(

I'm grabbed some odd bits of wood about 1.5 meters long and made two square tubes which I'll try at Lincoln in the morning. If Charlie and crew like them I'll make better ones and post you a picture.

These balance beams are not 5 foot in the air their only 6 inchs off the ground there just to get you skill level up

need small ones at first, then one's about a foot or so up, some poeple have enough precision to jump up onto them consistently

I'm thinking more to practice in a gym rather than a high wire act. If you slip off a beam even a foot high even with mats someone could get hurt, slip off a 6 inches and unless you hit the beam you should be OK ?
Like I said I've made a couple up and see what we think off them :)

Lol - You usually use the cough or wink after a euphemism. But you coughed and
then out right admitted you were going to steal it! haha ^_^ You're awesome DK.

Have you ever seen Banzuki on the Chalenge Channel? It's channel 125 if you have
Sky (I don't remember what it is on freeview). They have an awesome stilt walking
course on that. You should check it out for inspiration. And add a bouncy twist.

I tried a beam box out at the gym. It wasn't save to use for two reasons he edges needed to be smoother and the gym floor didn't grip the box ever well.
I'll bring some better ines next week including rubber on the botton.
