Day after I got mine I think, triped over a tree root

Mine was in clive's school hall :Ccry:

omg i dont remember you falling!!
lol i fell at my work car park (dfs, if anyone saw me lol) about 3 days after i got mine... i tried to bite off more than i could chew!!
AND I HAD NO PADS ON!!! OUCH!
*** but then again you its imposable not to at least stumble when u first put em on!
-
I think I must be lucky, or just very careful, because I haven't fallen over yet... (knock on wood). I mean, I've done it on purpose to pick things up for Stu, or to see if I can get up unaided (of which I can't!). Got to say though, Stu has had some ace falls, especially in front of lots of people....!
-
Yes I always seem to fall in front of lots of people and im getting rather good at picking you back up now :)
-
not 100% sure but i fink it woz bout 2 maybe 3 weeks after i got em!
i did take 2 em straight away thou, i was up and jumpin within the hour
-
No idea, i would say a couple of months at least since i was careful outside since i had no wrist guards on for some time. Of course now i wear pads :Csmile:
-
2 and a half months since i got them and i still havnt fallen over :D
I've done some pretty interesting dances to keep my balance though.
I've also plonked myself onto the floor a few times so i could force myself to get back up. Which i can do now :D
Had them wowed at warrington :P i could get up off the grass xD
anyway, yeah, i havnt fallen yet :P
-
i had a nasty one 2day, had to pop down to A+E,
bounced out of a high birani onto concrete and landed straight on the base of my back,
it hurt.
-
I went over fairly early (a week or 2) but I have now developed a technique where I don't have to fall to hurt myself
I just kick myself in the middle of a trick :Claugh:

Rule of bocking: If you're not falling over, you're not trying hard enough.
About 2 days after getting them, I managed to smash a wrist guard doing it. 2 years later I went out in the cold and smashed another one ;D
-
Rule of bocking: If you're not falling over, you're not trying hard enough.
yeh thats the truth, i went down after like 5 minutes of having mine on, and fell yesterday
-
25 minutes or so into a brick wall!
-
My first one was totally unspectacular. On the grass, takin my first few steps and for a reason still unknown to me I fell sideways. A bit like on of them fainting goats :D
-
:Cyes: yup fainting goat pretty much describes my first fall
-
Well, it took me about 5 minutes to fall over. But I was doing tricks on my first time on them!
-
Rule of bocking: If you're not falling over, you're not trying hard enough.
Yeah, or are just being careful.
I hate it when people say that. it's like saying 'if you havnt crashed your car yet, you trying hard enough'
Falling over isnt something to aspire to, so avoiding it should mean more than actually doing it.
-
Comparing that to trying to crash a car is ridiculous, that is completely out of context.
If you haven't fallen over bocking, you are clearly not pushing your limits hard enough. If you've got pads on it's not gonna hurt, you're not going to die.
-
This is what he is saying. We dont deliberately go around throwing ourselves on the floor but if you are careful then you slow your progress. I was one of them. I didnt use to fall much at all. because I didnt want to take risks. Then one day i got some confidence and achieved more than i ever had before..But I fell a few times too.
don't push yourself more than you dont want to. I understand it's hard. I was there..but once you do get past it its pretty cool :)
But yes, comparing it to a car crash is a little silly. Bocking is a sport. Not mode of transport. If you are safe there is no need to improve. Unless you are racing. And I am sure racing drivers of all kinds go off the road pushing the limits. but still, its completely different. compare to skateboarding or parkour. Failing is part of learning..it's how not to do it..
:spudT:

I do push myself to the limits, first of all I know how painful it is to break bones and stuff (also A&E takes sooo long!) Plus also I don't want to hurt myself as it mucks up my archery....
-
Anyway, comparing it to parkour, it's still not advisable to fall over. most of the time spent on the floor doing parkour is intentional.
Although, i wouldnt like to compare it to skateboarding, as i wouldnt be on the board for more than 10 seconds xD

seconded on the archery there, i haven't done any for over a month due to general injuries, that i probably wouldn't have if i'd just lay in bed all day
but then again i wouldn't have had much fun
-
just a random question then - how many people here do archery? as i do too...
-
i dont "do" archery as in like a club but i can fire a long bow a short bow and a cross bow ive also made a crossbow out of elastic and newspaper (ALOT OF NEWSPAPER) managed to get my own home made bamboo wif a nail on it straight threw my garage XD
mum was so happy
-
Hex does it :)
-
did archery years ago, took it up again with the uni this year, but probably dropping it next year, not worth what i;m paying once you factor in dodgy shoulder/wrist giving me time off, even the coach recommends that i shouldn't do it, unless i get all my joints pinned together properly first XD
-
cool.... i use a recurve bow usually, but also sometimes use a compound bow... just for a bit of a change...
i also have a pistol cross-bow, which i nearly show myself in the foot with :Ctwitcy: Nearly.
-
I'm recurve. And I'm quite good! 30th in the Ladies Section in Junior National Rankings!
-
:D I do archery aswell, recurve.
Me and choco bean are in the same club
-
I'm best out of the people where i live, but have never been in any regional/national competitions...
-
Long time since I have had the bows out must make the effort this summer
I used to do Field with the Company of Sixty and crossbows with The Knights of ST George
Make my own long and recurve bows and do my own fletching (even made the quiver I use :Claugh:)
What sort of poundage do you use Kaz I go up to 65lb normally but used to use a 90lb longbow (had to double the targets up to stop that one )
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
only use kinda tiny poundage jason! :P
20-30lb recurves, and 40lb compound, although i could use more, i've just never had the opportunity to use stronger bows, as none are ever hanging around, and i dont own any :P
I used to make my own (VERY VERY SIMPLE) bows, which is what got me started. I also made and fletched(badly) my own arrows, but gave up, as the stuff i buy works so much, much, much better xD
i dont see why i shouldnt be able to use a 60lb bow.... once at least :P after all, if i can pull my body weight up with one arm, a little more than double that, i should be able to draw a 60lb bow.
-
I found that the 90lb was very acurate over long distances but had to rest after about 8-10 shots whereas the 65 was nice to shoot all day long
Also made a recurve that worked out a bit light think it is 45-50 but really nice to shoot and a north american indian flat bow but I made it longer to fit me
You can't beet fletching your own wooden arrows they are much more acurate if you get it right

Had my stilts for5 days now and have fallen over three times. Twice i slipped on wet gress and once lost my balance trying a two foot jump. It that trying too hard or am I just accident prone. Both the grass falls I scaved without injury but got a little bruise on my elbow on the two foot jump one.

grass=slippy, concrete=painful, pads=your friends :Claugh:

id say about 20 minuets after i put em on
smashed up my knee i couldent bock 4 like 3 weeks after i was realy p**sed off
-
3rd day i had em and almost got my head flattened by a car !
-
my first fall was the other day, it resulted in a broken leg :( ive had bocks since christmas
-
Mine was in the middle of local town and ended up me getting banned from Bocking there :(
But i did kinda almost fall on an old lady,
-
well, it took me 6 months before i actually fell over, well i sorta slid down a pole once after attempting to do a trick, and ive had numerous stumbles. anyway my first fall was about 6-8 months after i got em as a christmas present. i was walking back from the shop with my friend, and he said, " can you jump yet?" and i was like " f**k yeah, just mastered doing a running jump!" so i got my self ready, ran, jump, but when i landed i was leaning quite far backwards and i got a shock up my leg, and the rebound was quite painful, i then stumbled on the second rebound and tried to stand up straight, but i just couldnt, i fell backwards onto the road. my friend ran over and said " that was awesome! are u alrite!?" i said, i think so il be up in a minute. after turning round and the floor a bit i just couldnt lift my left leg, i went to touch it and there was a lump on it, so i said "bugger ive dislocated my knee!" turns out it was broken..... i think it was cos i was wearing skater kneepads :Cerr: go to my thread for more info http://www.projumpforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=3732.0

Then did a 3 mile walk, aching back and a blister to show 4 it...but soz im still here

The first time I went on my Bocks I fell 3 times.

-

-
i fall the first time i tried them inside my home, i was going to stand up and i fell down forward but i never hurt myself.
since that day i have never ever fall with my :PJ101Ian: , i have been using them for about 1 month now 3-5 hour everyday after work, walking, running, jumping but not jumping high, i think im in need of pads before trying jumping high, but all the kids around me keeps roar "make flip/volt" but i would never do that :Claugh: dont want to break my neck
-
I forgot to mention the first time I fell earned me a very badly sprained wrist, I can safely say I have now gone past the 200 mark on the amount of falls I have had.
-
I've been lucky because my sense of self-preservation is too strong :)
The first time I crashed was into someone: I was heading home from my local train station after my first bocking meet (okay, it was just 2 of us) in Manchester in the summer of 2008 a few weeks before Capital Bocking 08. There's a road that goes downhill from my station then around the corner, and on this hill is a bus-stop.
Bocking down a hill doesn't seem that bad, but I was carrying my empty stilt bag on my back, using the grip-straps as shoulder straps (nothing wrong with that, but it did throw my balance off a bit), factor in the fact my legs were already kinda tired from the day anyway meant I promptly collapsed into the arms of a hapless soul who was standing at the stop (fortunately he was the only one too). It wasn't a proper "fall" as my knees never touched the floor, I just collapsed into his chest and he helped me get back up. I apologised most profusely and excused myself "I'm new to this", he muttered something about it "being alright" and I was on my way, stepping down the road and around the corner. I don't think too many people saw.
After that I was more-or-less alright, my fear of falling has stopped me from pushing myself into doing tricks that actually impress people.
The next time I fell was about 9 months later just after the end of the academic term (June 2009), I had some postal-rent DVDs I needed to return so I thought I'd bock down to my halls of residence's reception (in another building, about 250m from my block), but my blood-sugar and energy were really low; I got off to a good start and picked up some speed as I went round my hall's block but as I approached the access road I started to lose control over my legs and I just wanted to crash as soon as I could, but I didn't want to land on the concrete I was standing on. Along the path was another guy, I overtook him before promptly feeling totally exhausted and I aimed directly for a flowerbed a few metres in front of him, I lent over to my right and fell onto my forearm and landing on my back with a small thud, I was winded pretty bad. That was my first proper fall. The guy I overtook gingerly walked towards me and I just dismissed him "I'm *gasp* oka *cough*aayy!", he asked me if I made my stilts myself "No, Internet!" and he 'hmphed' and walked off. I later overtook him again, this time on foot, carrying my stilts under my arms and totally out of breath. I don't want to imagine what he thinks of me.
And whilst we're on the subject of falls, here's Biohazard hitting the dirt from CB09 in London:

Haha, I remember that. I'm glad I tried that though (got it right in the end) since now I am trying much bigger drops/steps and other things (like fail front flips).
I guess I am the most dangerous and accident prone bocker on the forum.
-
First fall took me about 3 weeks at my first roper meet, I'd already aced tucks, split kicks and single spring grabs and then decided to walk down a flight of stairs, knocked my spring off the stair and just dropped. i landed on my left wrist which I'd broken some 3 months before but got straight back up and was like "was that it?"
-
The ground in my garden is uneven and I tried walking to the shed and back on my first day (from a trampoline that I was holding onto). Needless to say, the ground had a small dip in it and I fell forwards - really slowly. XD I've only fallen once or twice after that.
-
Bio yep like 'mega failed' flips u had a crash mat AND a gymnastics coach today and still u didnt try d'oh but ya had fun so no worries
-
if your not falling your not trying hard enough
-
greg' i still think that pix of u after u 'met' the foad sign is a classic.
A few weeks later I met up with Carl on mallorca and we talked about it un he offered this line.....
' Ive not met the guy yet, but ive seen the sign....and there is a dent in it'
pls pls post a link :Cyes:
-
it took me a year to first fall and that was only the other day. (ive still only fallen once.
-
i just got my first pair today XD
had them on for haf an hour walkin along my wall tryed to walk without it nd failed....
-
27 min spread over 6 days :CGEEK:
-
the first day i tried them out inside my home, was going to stand up and fell infront of my tv :Crealmad: the very first time outside was after 4 month in the winder with about 1meter with snow :Cyes:
-
i got mine today, and it took me about an hour to fall over! :Ctwitcy:
nothing serious or anything, just fell mainly onto my hands (and i dont have any pads yet), so i got some slight grazing, but it hasnt stopped me wanting to go back out when it stops raining!!
-
Haven't fallen over once yet. But I try and learn at a steady rate, and I don't want to cause injury from c*ckyness. It's pretty much how I learn anything - you can't become pro until you learn the basics. And I always learn one thing at a time. First thing was sprinting. Now I'm trying to get the 5ft jumps. I'm at about 3ft at the moment.
-
I have had mine 2 hours and my son has all ready pushed me off! Followed by "oh dear, sorry dad"
-
recon he was? hehe
-
Yeah he looked really scared as I bounced off the floor.... Followed by that cute giggle kids do hahah
-
Its taken me since I first got my stilts in October but ive finnaly fallen off of them.
I dont think it really counts but i was bouncing home from the shops on them when some teenager came cycling along the pavement and right into me before I could do anything >.<, fell forwards and the little sod cycled off.
severely grazed knee, wrist and elbow, most likely bruised bones aswell. could have been alot worse luckily i managed to grab ahold of a fence to save my fall alittle.
most annoying thing was i ruined a brand new commemorative shirt, lost my pride and punctured one of the tins of beer I had bought
