Title: Phosphor Bronze Bushings
Post by: Beastie on May 16, 2009, 02:55:14 PM
Hi all,

I'm going to have a go at making some phosphor bronze bushings to replace my plastic ones. (just got a new lathe and want to try it out)

Question is, has anyone else tried this?

Do they make a difference to the performance of the stilts?

Are there any already commercially available? (Am I wasting my time)

Cheers,

John

7Leagues and PoweriSer both use Copper/Bronze bushings instead of Plastic ones, 7's ones should fit easy, i'm not 100% sure on Riser ones :)

They're a bit more hard-wearing than the plastic ones but they don't particuarly improve performance.

Thanks for the plug Naz  :Claugh:

I have since removed my Phossy ones Beastie for various reasons but the main reason is I managed to get hold of Glass filled Nylon and have now replaced them all with that

It is cheaper that Phossy (have you seen the price lately) and it machines a lot easier and lasts very well

If you do make them following my post make the hole through the silver steel centers a bit bigger than I did (the same size as the PJ ones) as it helps with aligning the frame and if you make them to tight you can't get the bock straight

and on a more important note What lathe did you get
