Hi,
I'm new to pro jumping and bought my first set just after xmas before new yrs. I have only used them 3/4 times since i bought them because the weather hasn't been to great. I went to get on them the other and saw what looked like a crack running from the base of the spring inline with the bolts that hold the foot on should this be happening or are they a faulty pair help would be much appreciated

Hi Ben,
Welcome to the site.
No this is definately not normal, however it may be worth taking a look at the tutorial below about a small plastic part that tends to fall out (un-noticed) and when it does it's thought to lead to cracked springs :(
It's impossible without seeing a photo though. Anychance you could upload a pic?
I'd suggest giving projump a call asap, assuming thats where you purchased them from.

Where's the tutorial about the small plastic bit that can occasionally fall out. And i've spoken to projumps and apprently i need a new spring and they're out of they're short 28 day gaurantee i shall upload a pic later on today

my plastic thingys fell out and i have no cracks...i think

This is the link to kiolas tutorial:

You should have something in place of the plastic things cos if they are gone then your springs are at risk.

See the crack
-
thats a bit of a nasty crack isnt it....i have a crack like that on my back-side....lol... ::)
-
I had a look for those white plastic things and thank fully they're still there only just tho one had almost fallen out.
-
does anybody know if it would work if i super-glued them to the spring
-
I'm not sure about supergluing them because these plastic bits are apparently shock-absorbers but I know on the 7-league boots they are taped in place (rather heavily).
Personally I think this cost-cutting measure is an awful idea. LOADS of people have reported that the plastic bits have fallen out within hours of being used. To me, this is a critical design error and I do hope it is being addressed at the manufacturing factory.
-
what if i superglued them to the plastic sock thing and not the actuall fiberglass?
-
I'd have to see a pic because I'm not experienced with these plastic bits but I think that would be a waste of time. (mine are an older model just before these plastic things emerged)
-
what do yours have to absorb the shock uncee matt?
-
Nothing.
Basically on the older model the rubber that covers the springs runs right down to the rubber foot (It stops about 1" above if my memory is right..i'll get some pics). I think on the newer model the rubber stops after the lower footplate attachement?
I dont have the knowledge to understand how this does the same job as a little plastic thing.
-
ill worry about it when my spring cracks
-
my head feels like its cracked :(
-
your not an egg are you? ;D
-
Should cracks like this happen if they have only been used a few times?
-
dont think so....fiberglass is ment to be extremly durable
