Is there such a thing as a "Vital Mod" ? or something you would recomend for a complete newbie? I can see Bocksocks coming in handy and am seeing a man tomorrow about a tyre. But other than that I am mildly befuddled. What would folks recommend?

having just finished moding mine I would say tyre armour and socks are first things to do that way you dont damage them
also I think if you dont like the knee bar strap getting some of pin heads straps is a good idea

I'm currently trying to work out how the straps go together, not trying to edge him out of business or anything, but I have a number of friends who're professional costume makers, and imagine they will be able to help me out. (Primarily because I'm on one heck of a tight budget at the moment) Also, not sure if Pinhead's still making, his website's corpsed last I looked.
And Tire Armour? Is that like what Kiwi has done? (If so I'll be seeing a man about Multiple tyres tomorrow!)

check out stiltmodz.com it gives good tutorials on how to make your own straps and tyre armour (yes like kiwi's)
pinhead is still making just not online much I ordered some off him as I am pants at sewing lol
for bike tyres make sure you get new tyres its more expensieve but I used old tyres as I had two spare and after barely 50meters walking I had started severly wearing them down :(

Deffo protect your springs before you use them. Even if it is with tape until you get time to make armor.
:spudT:

A spring mod is a must, even if its just gaffa tape. I've heard bad things about socks (people saying they're useless and so forth) but I'm gonna give that a go as well :D. I'm also making myself some tire armor to further protect my springs :)

i had alot of people tell me to tape my springs up etc, but the matter of the fact is i never bang my springs...so there was never any need for the hockey tape.
i wish i didnt now because when i take the hockey tape off its guna be all sticky..nice.
I think i might try to create some neoprene covers of my own

Most people do it terribly when they learn. And there are still falls and stuff which can damage springs...thats how I hurt my gaffa tape :D it would be springs otherwise.

oh, erm, i think its best you talk to my mod valet, he handles all that kind of thing. and jolly good at it he is too

springs taped, or tyre armoured, tyre socks of some sort and new bindings as the stock ones suck

So I bought some Bike Tyres off my friend who runs a lil local bike shop, I explained what I was using them for and he was really cool about it.
For the hooves he gave me a Kevlar reinforced tyre. Rock n roll. I get back to my flat, and realise.
How the devil am I gonna cut Kevlar. . . .
So I will be invading the workshop at work tomorrow, and NOT LEAVING UNTIL I'VE CUT IT INTO TINY SQUARES.
-
lol kevlar I replaced my old bike tyres with the kevlar ones to stop all the punctures I get cycling to work
however I dont think you will have a metal band to worry about around the edge of the tyre
I suggest a REALLY sharp pair of strong scissors/secateurs or a saw lol
good luck bet they wont wear out any time soon :Cwink:
-
u can get industrial guillotines that are really good for cutting that sort of thing, its all just one clea straight cut - fast, effective, and easy
-
any pair of scizzors will go through kevlar, it is good on impact but poor on shearing
and the experience ive had with the kevlar ones is i found they wore out in a few weeks
and as for them being puncture ristante that is bo**ox ive had one explode on me, you may fin it has the puncture restant strip of hard plastic in them
