Hi, just wondered which i should put on my bocks, i dont really know much about either.
1. Which protects better?
2. Which is easier to upkeep/lasts longest?
Cheers

1) Tire armour is so much stronger looks better lasts longer, cheaper and easy to make :)
Tire armour the whole way :P

well i would agree it is better, but it is not easer to make or cheeper

Any ideas on a rough time scale for tire and tape??

10mins for tyre and tape
-
Tire socks: 2-4 hours(usually 2 me it took me longer because I had bad tools)
Taping(about 7 layers to protect it properly):1-2 hours.

think i might try make some tyre armour,

Need any special tools for tire armor or just normal everyday stuff u have in the garage?

Every day stuff

I actually dont like the look of tire armour. I prefer bright coloured tape. I use red and blue gaffa. Probably about 5 full layers and 3 extra strips where the damage usually occurs. Took me about 20 mins max. And you could put a inner tube under it too. But armour is strong. Just takes a long time to make, needs tools and I dont like the outcome. But if you like it then works well.

i'd say tyre armour is best, tape gets scuffed up and you have to keep touching it up after a fall or whatnot
-
i honestly dont think either make that much of a difference, once youve learnt to bock its very rare youll knock stilts together while wearing them, and if a spring is going to snap 50 layers of tape wont stop it, neither will tyre armour.
so i think its more a preference of looks than practicality.

I disagree with you Nero, since I damaged my old springs from the toll of many falls, spring protection is quite important.
-
Thanks guys, sounds like i am stuck then :) would do tire armor but doesnt look as good as tape could ( i know that sounds stupid) can you take the spring off the frame and slide something over it?

Yep! But make sure you have the right tools first. There is a spring changing tutorial knocking around which i will find when i get on pc if somebody doesnt first. Its not easy the first time so might not be worth doing.
-
i agree with nero, i hardly knock my springs together apart from the slight nick. depends on how straight you keep your legs, ive noticed alot of people walk with the springs at an angle and this means they knock the springs quite a lot, but fortunatly for me i walk and jump pretty straight. so no need for much protection.
i still want some decent looking spring protection tho that looks good and works well.

i will have to try my best to not knock springs together, sounds like a bad habit? I have only just noticed you naturally walk with ur feet pinting outwards slightly, interesting. I suppose tire armor will take longer to put on but tape u will have to keep putting on and touching up. Think im going for tape, i will have the time spare to keep doing it :Ctongue:
