Title: I can not absolutely well and jump with both feet
Post by: powerbaffo on January 24, 2010, 12:06:11 PM
 :CSLEEP:
Hello everyone,
you could watch this video? I finally managed to run and jump with one foot, but I can not absolutely well and jump with both feet. I do not understand what mistake, it is possible that my weight does not accommodate the springs? when I bought powerstrider I weighed 84 kg, now, after three weeks, weight 79 kg, below the springs 83 it says, are good or am I not? please give me some advice. thanks
In this video you can also see the Etna volcano full of snow!

I have the same problem! I think because two things- I'm too light for my springs (60m's) & my technique need work.(straight back when land and putting all energy into the first jump then let gravity and your own weight do all the work) I tend to bend my knees and lean forwards. Guess just practice, still....Wish they made lighter springs for the adults pro-jumps.

Maybe you could try other make's springs- 7 leagues, powerskips?

A lot of people find that jumping on two feet is hard

When you jump on two feet to start with you must keep your legs and back straight to transfer the power to the springs
Try to push down through your heels

As this is very different to jumping without bocks it really confuses beginers especially as you are taught to bend your knees when landing in normal jumping

Watch a few vids on here and keep trying it will come very soon

Your springs are a bit on the light side and are compressing fine when you run so you will soon be jumping

Thank you Jason, thank you GIZMOQUEEN, I will try to still practice and still, I wanted to be sure that my springs were right for my weight. But do I carry up my knees?

Thank again to all

you look like you are trying to focus on the up part of the jump. Try and focus on pushing down when you land, this will make u jump higher.

I hope that's useful.

Thanks you griffithsm00,
I suspected a thing of the sort!
It could help me if I watch initially low in order to see the impact point of the rubber feet?

No! If you do that your back will not be straight and you will be outt of balence. Look a few good meters ahead.

Dont expect resukts straight off. Look at vids of you and compare yours to others. Getting good height is harder than it looks at first.

Nothing in particular. Just some bocking vids that show how people jump. Look at what they do, compare it to what you do and try to do more of whatever seems to be working on the vids.

I can only explain so much. Practice, learn what good technique is and practice some more :)

when jumping, try not to tuck your legs up so high - maybe someone else can explain it better, all i can think is that it doesnt seem to flow right, perhaps because your legs are still slightly bent when they hit the ground & is killing the bounce, but i wouldnt be surprised if im wrong there

Dont lift your knees. You may see people do this but if the timing isnt right it works against you. Best you dont do it. Right now all the springs are doing is lifting your knees and Absorbing the energy. A bit like when you jump from height. You bend your knees to soften the impact.

Stop bending your knees and you shoulD start transfering the energy into height Instead of absorbing it. Give it a go

I think that I need more practice, unfortunately I do not know nobody in my city with which to confront to me, also the Italian forum seems to be dead.

Yep agreed what your doing is killing the bounce when you bend your knees

The tecnique is to land with your legs straight pushing down through your heels
Keep your legs straight untill the springs fully straighten and you leave the ground

As you are compressing the springs throw your arms downwards
As the springs are straightening throw your arms upwards

This is a bit like getting a swing going if you get it wrong the swing just stops

Keep going you'll get it eventually

following an upgrade of my jumps, I hope to have improved my technique!

Loads better!

Most of the height is comming from you arm movement which are very good but you now need to Start slamming into the grounD with your feet. Practice thAt and you should start getting some good height. The rest of your technique looks good and is loads better.

Hi Spud,
thanks for your suggestions, I think the problem is also  that I do not succeed to go more than 30 minutes on the stilt because I tired a lot! It can be my age (33 years)? I notice a that, when I walk or run I must make much force on the heels otherwise I lose my equilibrium, for this reason the legs make me badly. Is it a normal thing or I rest to make some regulation?  :Cerr:

Bocking is good exercise and you will use new muscles and get fit if you do it enough so it might take you a while to get used to the physical demand. If you ache or hurt take a rest for a few days.

I don't funny understand but you might find it easier if you adjust your support rods. Jason made athread on it:

Hi,
I already used Jason's procedure, I think that I must adjust more my support rods. I will try tomorrow again using another adjustment.
But if I regulate the supports rods like in the figure of Jason, I must only push on the heels and is still more laborious for me, I will try to move the weight on the plant of the feet.
I hope to post you as soon as possible a video with some jumps still higher.  :Csmile:

I know a few people who like the footplate adjusted back to lift their toe but most seem to be happier with a toe down or level footplate

The most important bit is to get them straight before you start and then keep them even through each adjustment

Also don't get too fixated on adjusting them as sometimes it just needs time for your body to adjust and make you comfy

:Claugh:  indeed this is true, i find it much easier to get the force down through the heel this way, give it a try (just keep your rods even else you could warp/break them)

Looks like you are coming on well, keep it up.

But seems that now you have got the basics down you should go a little further, With split kicks and spring grabs don't be afraid to just go for it, with my split kicks I just give it everything ive got, I always seem to land it now that I have done it so much, but comitment to tricks is one of the key parts.

DC is right there what he has taught me has needed the confidence to do it and the comitment to make it better.
