Rites, i have still got problems with my original hoofies that came with my pro-jumps and part of it has ripped off and i have managed to get some thick snow plow rubber county council style so it is thick and a hard rubber which will be long lasting as its used to drag along roads. im just thinking how ii would attach it onto my stilts because the ones that came with the stilts have like bolts in the hoofies so i dont know how to attach my rubber. also because it smooth im guessing i wont have much grip on surfaces other than tarmac (sports hall) any ideas what i could do?
-
Most common way to attach it is to glue part of the tire to the old hoof, and then get a J-clip and put it round the metal bit of the hoof to hold it in place.
as you can see from this pic below
Unfortunatly the PJ hoofs are not very good, and last maybe a month (sometimes a week) :(

wat kind of glue? i tried to glue gun the part that was comming off back on if u know what i mean but it didnt work, the glue came off after a couple of jumps haha, but how could i attach my new snow plow rubber? i would probz need to take old PJ hoofies off?
-
How thick is it?
And I use Advesive glue (not the shop brought stuff) The internet kind, very very strong, but you HAVE to wear gloves when using it
DC
-
i see, well it is 2.5cm thick ish. however it is very hard as it is/was used by the council when snow plowing roads so it is made for being draged along the ground for long periods of time
-
If its hard, and it probably is, then it will take a bolt if you drill a small pilot hole. Use a pattern made from a pice of card marked off the metal part of your hoof. You can then bolt it to your stilt like to old ones and take them off easily if you find they are too slippery like they might be being a hard rubber! :CGEEK:
-
But the bolt has to only go half way in or i cant imagine it being very stable if it came out the other end of the rubber? thats the bit im struggling with :Cmask:
-
Hmmm.... you could use cable ties, :P They are a bockers most handy tool :P
-
some how i thinks not haha. the rubber is solid and fairly weighty haha
-

Drill it about 3 - 4mm. open the very top only to 6mm then screw in the bolt that should be long enough not to go all the way through. see below. Hope this helps :Csmile:
-
i thinks i get it, but on that pic the hole goes right through... :Cfrown:
-
i don't know if you can get Tec7 where you live but that is VERY strong glue. it stays a bit flexible, works on almost any surface and can only be removed by cutting it away.

hmm im sure i should be able to find some, is there a way i could put tyre on the bottom when going to a gym and take it off when i am on tarmac?
-
tyre socks?
-
are they relitivly easy and quick to put on / take off?

Na not to quick to get on and off unless you use jubalee clips, but movement or damage to stilt lower leg is a poss issue.i thinks i get it, but on that pic the hole goes right through... :Cfrown:
The holl all the way through is not an issue as long as it is small and the bolt does not go all the way through!

i hope that worked (the quote haha)
erm what do you mean by movement or damage to stilt lower leg? by using the clips it will still move and i will fall and break my face?haha i havnt fallen off yet :) :Ctwitcy:
-
ok the quote faild and it high lighted the wrong bit, swap the colours around haha

Ok...loads of suggestions here. But to me they all sound crazy! Glue..if you do a job right you shouldn't need it. Look at the various versions of hoofies. Work perfectly, no glue and especially with the first version. Easy to get on and off. Obviously, these designs take time and materials can be a problem. But...it can be done! Its like all these early designs have been overlooked here.
I mean, are tire socks easy to put on/take off. If you don't glue them on of course. Simples. Tie on tire socks. to me sounds like the best solution here. Or the Q's mini shoe thing. Looks quirky but does the job :)
There is a nice menu at the top Look in mods > rubber sole protection and you will see a load of suggestions :)
-
you are right Spud. but if he comes here with that question he can't have overlooked the sticky topics right? so if he want to do it his ows way and try something different, why not?

You don't have to look too far on her to see many of the same questions asked over and over :D Some of the threads can be overlooked easily.
I think he can use his rubber, but as a hoof replacement. Much like the mk3 hoofies..just like snud suggested. or glue them to what is left. But..easily removable in the gym? that will be much harder. So..put some tie on socks over them or something while in the gym. Anyways...hope the past topics give ideas of what has been done thats all.

thanks for the reply but i think you two have the wrong end of the stick here, as i have read all the mods etc etc . and i am going to make my new bottoms and not just putting it on the old ones. And all i was wondering if any one had any good ideas or who could help with what i am trying to achieve not just put down the idea... as many minds which experience are better than one...Thanks Dark, Snud. And i dont know if im getting the wrong end of the stick here but could you try make it constructive criticism.. so if anyone has any good idea please reply

Hi bounce
To start with the rubber Hoofs that came with your stilts are not Hoofies
Hoofies are my own design and I invented the name
I take it you have seen the how to about the MK3 hoofies and I counter bore the back bolts to sink them into the rubber
I havn't seen the sort of stuff you are making yours out of but a few tips on suitable material might help you
First it must not give when you pull it as this will just make it pull off of any fixing you use
I used a nylon cloth backed rubber on my early ones and you could put it in a vice and hand your whole weight (17stone) on it without it stretching
I now use new Motorcross/road tyres to make the mk3 and that is tough stuff but still rubbery it can stop 1/4 ton of bike from 70 while smoking :Claugh: I know I've done it
I tried several sheet rubber materials and they all stretched and came off
You have to get the right mix of hardness to grip in whatever material you choose as too hard (plasticy) will slide even on concrete and too soft will grip very well but wear in hours (I had some stuff that you could almost walk up walls with but it lasted 20 mins and turned to an ice ring with a dab of water)
Have a look at someones Hoofies mk3 next time your at a meet and you can see how they attach as if you can counter bore the stuff you have it may work well
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
will it certainly wont stretch haha and it is thicker and harder than tyre i just hope it isnt too hard. i will probably need 2 wear it in if it is before making my fist fall of my bocks haha. unfortinatly i live neer newcastle and theres like no meets up there but i think i get the idea of the mk3 which i PM'd u about a while ago. how do you counter bore the back bolts to sink them into the rubber? thanks
-
Everyone become real men and bock on the metal, show your true skills :P
DC
-
hahaha im trying to see how long i last until my first fall, not actulaly trying to break my face. i would enjoy watching someone els bock on metal and fall over :) is jason stil on to answer my questions haha?
-
I went 4 months before my first fall :P
-
is that a challenge? haha. Well when i started i could run fast within 20 mins and double footed jump within 30 but apart from trying to get more height in my jump i dont know what else i can do, because i dont go on trampoline's much and when i do i cant land a flip on my feet so i dont want 2 break me in half tryin on bocks as i play football alot for club and getting injurd would be bad. i have jumpd two benches before at school haha :)
-
so how do you counter bore the back bolts to sink them into the rubber?
-
Counter boring is just drilling a larger hole part of the way through the rubber so the bolt sinks in but doesn't pulll through
On tyres and the hoofies material the nylon backing is so strong that I can drill most of the way through and the bolts won't pull through
I gauge the height by a simple depth gauge on the drill and a steel plate to stop the gauge digging in and to align the holes
The drill I use is specialy sharpened for the job but a standard twist drill with a wood point is very similar and would work (you can buy them at any diy store)
Also use silicon spray on the drill bit as that stops it grabbing
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
so how come the bolt doesnt come out of the rubber? sorry for all the questions im probably boring you but my school work is reli boring
-
Lol, I jumped and was doing split kicks in the first 3 hoursm could run jump 3 footish. I was a quick starter :D
DC

so how come the bolt doesnt come out of the rubber? sorry for all the questions im probably boring you but my school work is reli boring
By drilling a smaller hole than the bolt, the threads will bite into the rubber and won't pull out! :Cyes:
-
i see, i just hope my rubber isnt too hard then haha :Ctongue:
-
If you look at the Hoofies mk3 page you will see that I put the bolt in from underneath and then stick a couple of nuts on the top that way the rubber is fixed by the bolt head (actually a pan head machine screw)
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
why do you do that? so there holes on the bottom yeah? why not put it in the bit facing the metal?
-
on the MK3's theres metal showing on the bottom?
-
Because rubber is not well known for taking a thread well :Claugh:
Take a close look at the pics of the mk3 and you will see how it's done
On the other hand try threading your stuff and see how it works but don't blame me when you find yourself landing on a pair of ally hoofs :Claugh:
But please make sure you video it as it should be spectacular
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
Ally hoofs? come again??? haha :Ceek:
-
When the rubber flys off in mid air :Claugh:
I have done it and it's not funny except to everyone watching
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
i donts want that to happen hahaha. :CGEEK: Idea... fill the bolt/ hole in with the rubber crack seeler stuff?
-
You know the things on the first (neerest to toe) binding you take off theres a metal square with a bolt thing on where can you get them from because you could use them in the rubber soles?
-
I've tried to make my own out of a push bike tyre I picked up from Halfords. I've made all my own studding to hold it all in place, and they work lovely, only problem is they are way too soft, been out for an hour and they are knackered.
Plus I find that I'm always wearing on one site, is this the same for other folks, or am I just strange. (Don't mean to steal the post)
Thanks
Davey
-
haha that looks bloody huge haha. i wear down one side more than the other aswell ;/
-
Nice copy on MK2's Davey
You've done a good job there mate when I made my first set of tire socks they wore out quickly
Just keep looking for the right compound of tyre
And yes most people tend to wear on one side or the other to some extent
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
ooohhhhh, so your 'MK' series are just bits of tyre?
-
No Bounce they are not
Do you ever read anything before you post :Claugh:
Read the post again and notice the bit that says "My first Tyre socks" these were made from bicycle tyres as everyones are
Mk1 and 2 Hoofies were made from "Equine therapy bath entrance and exit matting" (Horse swiming pool matting  ) bought from a specialist supplier
Mk3's are made from new motocross motorbike tyres
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
HAHAHHAHA Jason im sorry but i deserve a apology...
Nice copy on MK2's Davey
So actulaly i think i do read the posts....
