pls don't hate me, this has got to be the most asked question... no one seems to indicate a preference.
1st - WOW - i've just discovered these online. i've been sketching them for years, i never thought other people would be cool enough to manufacture them.
so i *have* to have a pair. i'd like to know which brand has the longest wearing spring..
i'm fairly big, ~160lbs and 6'1, it looks like the choice is between air-trekkers extreme
http://www.amazon.com/Air-Trekker-Jumping-Stilts-Extreme-176-198/dp/B002480P9M/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1271824372&sr=1-3
and powerisers..
http://www.amazon.com/Poweriser-Jumping-Classic-Aluminum-Fiberglass/dp/B002IAQEDC/ref=pd_sbs_sg_2
i intend to buy a little over my weight, i expect i'll make them work hard, i have strong legs, and i'd prefer to spend money on something made to last :)
i did see someone saying that the air-trekkers had some cheap looking parts on them, though the powerisers look flimsier
-
..there also seem to be two completely different products sold as poweriser on amazon..
http://www.amazon.com/Poweriser-Jumping-Stilt-Advanced-158-198/dp/B002IAO8OY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1271823164&sr=1-3

You want to stay away from alot of makes as they are dodgy, here is a list of the decent makes.
Pro-Jump
Poweriserz
Power-Skips
7league boots
Any other brands besides these can sometimes be cheap nock offs, so either buy them from the actual websites or make sure they a legit on Ebay, Also a little hint, you are better to start of on Pro-Jumps these are entry level stilts, but they are cheap, and mine have lasted me almost a year now, I know people that have had them for 3-4 years aswell.
-
Poweriserz
ah-hem, that should be powerisers, with 2 S's :Claugh:
-
Dont forget SpeedJumper, sth like the german version of pro-jump. :p
-
among these brands there isn't much difference in spring wear, spring power, or hoof wear?
my intent is to combine these with kendo and the like :D
-
Ok dont listen to anyone there accept DG :P
Dont go for any of those makes that I didnt mention there, they can be dodgy :P I am not saying they are not good, just that you cant reli on them. Hope this helps

Are powerstriders any good? I found a USED pair.
If they aren't good I'll buy Powerisers from Denmark.
-
Stick with Powerisers if I was you, I have heard some bad things about striders :S

wtf...striders are the same as PJs. Unless you are talking about customer service?
-
Air-Trekkers=Powerstriders=PoweriZers=Pro-Jumps=Fly-Jumpers
I have Air-Trekkers Extreme, they have amazing customer service. PoweriSer recently offered me a 30$ discount through the pp to switch brands when i joined.

Ok folks a question
I looked at the SpeedJumper web site and I am really undesided as to who they are made by
The ones they show don't look like any Pro-jump family products that I have seen and they don't look like Skyrunners to me
So does anyone know for sure who they are made by as the site is in German and I am not good with anything except English :Claugh: (Not to good with that either )
Sprog this post is pointed at you :Claugh:

They look an awful lot likt the new PJ's :S
So they might be from the same designer :S
DC
-
THEY ARE PJ's
I have seen the new ones, and loads of pics of them and they are precisly the same!!! no difference whatsoever :S
DC
-
Yep.. the "cheap" one is the same as PJ.. with cuffs, pro bindings and other bearings.
The prof is german quality, made of massive alloy. ;)
-
Yay I was correct :P WOOP WOOP :P

DC
I hate to burst your bubble but
Look closely
The support from the foot to the spring is totally diferent to the new PJ design (square not round)
The bracket that attaches it is missing completely
The brackets at the back of the footplate is a different shape
The upright has long slots not round holes
The foot rest section is completely different
I could go on for ages but they bear as much resemblance to the new style PJ's as the old style PJ's do
So I am confused as I have searched the Flyjumper site and they make 5 models
The old PJ's
The old PJ's with Cuffs
The kids PJ's
The new PJ's in steel
The new PJ's in Ally
And none of them look like SpeedJumpers
So the question stands
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
Hmmmm.... it is questionable... ask Naz :P
DC
-
I might have caused a bit of confusion here
The SpeedJumper basic model is like PJ's but it is the SpeedJumper Professional that I am asking about as it is so different that I can't see any bit except the spring that is similar
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
Its is so confusing, why can't they just stick to the 5 main makes :S

Speed jumper sell a number of different stilts. I think some are just straight out the factory (like PJs) Others have improvements like hoofs and bearings (although, this may be standard) and finally, the speedjumper professional is a set of bocks with many parts that are made just by speedjumper. So their own frames in essence. These are not skyrunners :) In fact, there has always been debate about who's design that frame was first. SJ claim FL stole it. As far as I can tell FL say the same.
-
That would make more sence Spud
They look like they are custom made and the price seems to reflect that
The basic design is similar to the new FL/PJ but all the bits are totally diferent shapes
Very interesting though (now to see if I can make a pair :Claugh: )
I do like some of the design but no walking foot so not for me yet :Claugh:
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
May I ask what is FL?
DC
-
Flying Locust- the old name of the factory from which stilts like Projumps, powerstriders and flyjumpers come from. It is now just flyjumper I think.
-
SJ sells 3 models (+1 the one for childs)
I&C and X3 are pretty much the same, basically different offers. And the same as PJ.^^
The SJ prof is mainly produced in germany, made of Duralumin and constructed on a moulding cutter with high precision.
AFAIK the only parts that are not self produced, are (besides screws and stuff) the cuffs + bow, the clamp to fix the cuffs, the sole, the spring and the bearings (same as powerskips). That's why it's so expensive, although the value is much higher.. coz this frame is massive! :D
IDK who "stole" (copied sounds better^^) the design, but the basics for the design are even painted in the patent of alexander boeck.
So far.. any more questions? :D
-
They do the new model in ally or steel so I would class that as 4 types :Claugh:
Unless you would be happy to get the steel one instead of an ally pair  (must be like wearing diving boots )
I must say that the SJ pro do look really nice and the design looks sound
So I better apologise for the "Substandard" comment earlier  before I look like an Idiot (Opps to late :Claugh: )
Jason :Hoofies2: :CGEEK:
-
SJ doesnt use steel, only alloy. You gotta mean the FL thing.. :P
-
Oops lets amend that :Claugh:
I just read your post properly NightCrawler and realised you said SJ not FL
I am just having one of those nights I can't seem to get anything right
Yes I was on about the FL thing

F*ckin' alc, yeah? :Claugh:
