Title: Halloween Bock 2010 (London)
Post by: Biohazard on August 28, 2010, 11:22:52 PM
So it's coming up to that time of year again, and I think we should get yet another awesome London Halloween meet organised!

Info here:

Personally I am thinking of either going as a crash test dummy or a glow in the dark Viking!

Sorry the RR's can't make it, we are hired to do a halloween show somewhere else. Although some of us might be able to make it if they do not want to do the show

Last year Halloween meets was great fun....

Wooo ^-^  I felt like a celebrity with all the tourist wanting to take everyone's picture.

I have already  made a start on my costume it's a little more more elaborate than my NeoN WITCH attempt from Last year. It's going be tricky to transport on the train, tho I'm sure I will find a way. mhm  ;D

Also hope to drag my brother along again.

I'm going to be a fallen Angel
It's one of the reason I hope my little bro coming--I need help with the wings :)

My vote would be for the Saturday.

A long drive back followed by work the next day wouldn't be a good thing.  If it was on the Saturday I would then consider staying over.

Good idea but remember that most of the halloween celebrations in london will be on the sunday so we may be the only ones dressed up also we might not get the sort of crowds that we got last year if we turn up a day early

From my experience of london on a saturday night it is the lads lets get drunk night and you get a lot of rowdys

One other thing to concider is you will have to pay for parking on a saturday (if your bringing a car to transport costumes etc) but on sunday it is free

I don't mind doing it on saurday but will be going by train if we do as driving up there on saturday is a nightmare and I won't pay £30+ to park for a couple of hours and I have the option of leaving my gear at work a few days before

Yep it makes sence to keep it to the sunday as you can't park until 6-30 pm on a sat and my guvnor lives in the area and he recons you will be very lucky to find any spaces

Also you have to see saturday night to believe the amount of drunks in the city  :Claugh:

Update on my costume guys n gals..

had a phone call today from hm customs and excise asking me what my package contains as they are confused and worried as to the image they are getting on their scanning machine..

i told em ( nope not gonna say here as its a surprise ) but they just wanted to check that it was real and not that they where going mad lol..

they then asked what it was for and why the outfit needed to be so long? so i told them and they thanked me for clearing the matter up then cleared it for acceptance in to the UK lol

not your everyday type of call from HM Customs and Excise lol

Chris - Binop9

Cant Wait for this event.. its gonna be even better then last year :)

Might be bringing a 'HVR-V1E 1080i' to this, if you don't know what it is google it.

In basic it is a very very very high resolution video camcorder, that will record prety much anything in the best possible quality. Also has a LOMO fishbowl if you know what that is :D

Although some of you may begrudge this, I'm letting DK to most of the organisation of this meet as I don't have time to organise it myself due to upcoming exams, and hes the only one who stepped up to the challenge.

He has made a timetable for the meet:

No problems with that Bio

Didn't know it needed organizing we have held the last two just as turn up and go where we like on the day and they have worked very well so I thought it was just known that anyone that wanted to come turns up at some point on all hallows eve and we just move on to a new spot when we either get bored or moved on

The trouble with timetables is they always seem to slow a meet down whereas the inpromptu meets seem to go well and be fun

I will be turning up late (about 5/6ish) like last year and was intending to wander down the south bank and then probably head to covent garden and after maybe leicester sq same as last year as this seemed to attract a lot of attention and that is what we all want

But I will go with the majority on here so what do you say folks

It seems to have been hijacked and turned into a big thing so lets hope it dosen't go the same way as CB has  :Claugh:

I personally felt that it having no planning just meeting up with an approx time and place was the reason why this meet worked so well, there's no expectations so therefore no disappointments, there's no one in charge and so on...
Having said that - hope u all have a fab time.

I'm sorry to say we also will not be coming down. I was hoping to hire a car for it but the local car hire company only had larger cars available which were £88 for the weekend and split between 5 of us, with petrol, parking and 7 bridge toll on top, it was just too much money for us :(

I'll let you know if anything changes.

Well I'm coming with stilts.. N mum is coming as (GC) ground crew. Who's got the ground crew shirts lol?? If it's no one, then I think we should get some made or maybe a armband saying official pro-jump ground crew.

It would then act as a form of advertising and they could also hand out the cards if needs be.. While also doing the normal stuff of acting as our pets ( fetching water/drinks and other items ) and they wouldn't be ground crew with out acting as a place for us to balance lol.

It's all part of the service lol.

Hi Mandy,

I think most people will be meeting at the London Eye, from 3.00pm onwards.  Then moving on after and hour or two.

I guess the train to Waterloo would be much less hassle, as parking isn't cheap in London, but less flexible than having your own car obviously.

The parking I booked for walk for life near tower bridge was £16 for 24 hours.  Bout the cheapest I could find, but you'd still have to pay from the tube probably to get to the eye.  (Q-Park - Butlers Wharf)

I was wondering if its worth a few people meting up further out of the centre where you can park for free, and taking 1 car in to share the parking.

Just to recap on the parking

All day sunday free parking in a lot of places namely

A lot parking bays are free on a sunday (but do check the signs as some arn't)
Single yellow lines with no bars on the pavement (yellow lines across the curb anything from 1 to 3) but again check the signs as some have time restrictions

Just to give you an idea both Carl and I got parked within walking distance of the London Palladium on a sunday at about 4ish but it took some doing
Out by the Eye you should find some side streets or just over waterloo bridge

But as usual read the signs to make sure

I can't make it till later (about 5-6 ish so I will catch up with you then)

The eye is normally good for a couple of 3 hrs so you will probably be on the way to Covent garden of one of the SQ's about the time I turn up (Covent garden is a good photo spot)

Weather held off nicely.
I think the total was 26 bockers, great costumes (jason's dragon pulled bigger crowds than we already had. Jason I think your idea about CCTV to see peoples reactions is a good one!
Was a good night thanks to everyone. Sorry we got split up the police moving us on and demanding we debock or leave Westminster in 15 mins kinda sped up our movements.

Oh and lastly if you got my facebook pics of mi stilt are on there finally finished the spring off

We all had a blast and we really were not sure about coming down to london when the weather looked uncertain and being so late on a school night. Got home at 2am and up at 7 for work - Locky not happy lol!

Big thanks to everyone who came. Good to see some old faces and meet some new.

I know this is always meant to be an unorganised meet but I really think it needs a little planning. I would have loved trafalgar square without the concert going on and that PCSO had better look out for me next time or he might just have to get out his pen and paper and use both of them on me at the same time!

You got moved on by a PCSO?
You do realize they have NO power what so ever except to ask you to wait up to 20mins for a real officer, even then you have a choice to leave or not :D

Yes I do, and this was 5 mins after the proper police officer asked us to show him a backflip.

I was willing to argue but everyone else just wanted to keep the peace and move on so meh.
He said he'd had a complaint from westminster council, I asked for them to come and discuss it with me and he said the council will come to process me. Sounds painful right?

A PCSO once gave me crap bocking on the steps outside the welsh assembly and got out his pad and asked for my details. I said sorry mate, you're not my type :P

Traf is always booked on big days.  The actual 'square' area is not a public space ( there are , unfortunatly, lots of such areas in the city and they , in some cases, go back b4 the Norman invasion of 1066..u just cant argue)

Un yep , konwing the rite peeps would get an apology and written permission to do wot we wanted in Westminster.

But gotta say 20-30 min b4 we got pushed out, 2 security peeps came along un just said, 'everynow and again couod you just stop , and let the crowds move about'... should point out we had caved out a circle in 1 corner of Leicester sQ for greg un carl to flip in....and basically this the centre of london.

So to b honest, I thought that was an amazingly enlightented approach. I was expecting and would have accepted a request to move on.  un fortunatly  they seem to have got over ruled.

in bmth on 1 thursday evening bouncing in 1 spot I got threatened with an ASBO, a week later, almost to a min , in exactly the same spot, a police car screached to a halt in exactly the same spot, cop lent out of the window and shouted ' do tricks do tricks!!!'

Unfortunatly , there r no rules or guideline to b given, if i gave any, some1 would post 'not here.....'

RE 'proper organisation',  do agree 2 a degree Locky, this evening cost me £45 even b4 a bought a sausage role, so 4 an 'out of town person'  yep id like my monies worth :o). But 1 has to ask the question, make it 'professional event'  or wot it is  a LNDN event that peeps join in with?   I 'think' myself ive now accepted the , slightly longer than fashionablr lateness, of Jason , hehe, but was sad to miss out on seeing  the Holmes famiy.

OOO un now ive seen a pix,  so  big bow down to clive, then katie, jason, the RR's, Binop, Lynch ( I left 2 3rds my costume on train or on platform doh grrr) and grahm ( or some possibly remotely simila spillin)   BIg B IG UP 2 all who went to town on the costumes. Next year i trust all will have made atleast 1/2 the effort

Un  4 me LNDN is still the top bock spot, un if you can do it on a special day even better.

But rally lets have all the pix up   :Cyes:.

Can I have a cut of the profits if I join your Picture Charging Club Katy  :Claugh:

Still seeing red dots before my eyes

I did the whole route backwards looking for Clive, Hollie and Gemma after I left you lot and actually had to make a run for it at Leicester Sq
The crown got a bit rowdy and wouldn't let me go so I made a sprint for a couple of Bicycle Cops and they were really good , even told me they thought the costume was fab

Got an idea for next years costume and it's gonna take me all year to make it  :Claugh:

Sorry Small but no  :Claugh:

The dragon stays with me to be used at various other meets (I hope)

Don't worry about skill or imagination (I had neither acording to my teachers 33years ago  :Claugh:)

Sometimes the simplest things are best

All you need to be the Invisible Man is a couple of bandages

Or buy a mask and put it on the back of your head and a hat with holes to see through on your face then put your clothes on back to front (that would look weird on bocks )

Title: Re: Halloween Bock 2010 (London)
Post by: binop9 on November 02, 2010, 11:02:51 PM
I agree it was a good meet but it could have been better..

in my POV.. it seems to be becoming more a " oh i will better that person " kind of competition meet.. now i know people will bit*h and they may but as jason said this is meant to be a fun and dress up to a point meet for all to enjoy..

the more elaborate our costumes get of course the more we are gonna get asked to take pictures and thus causing a crowd and thus annoying the police and or "plastic's " ( PCSO to the people that dont know that term meaning lol )

the costumes i seen last year i was at this event.. where funny and also great. but things are getting more out of hand..

one final point i thing needs raising if and when people get lost in the supposed group, people in the main Group should either hold the main convoy up and wait for them to catch up or better still come back and look for the lost bockers..

due to the free for all on the night a small bunch of us where either left behind or forgotten

Clive and his Daughters where among this group along with myself and my mother ( acting as Ground Crew )
if it wasn't for myself and my mother having our phones on us clive and his daughters would still be in london or in danger.. This could happen to anyone !! people from the main group should contact those that might be missing.

I feel this needs to be worked on more then anything else as safety is paramount.. especially in this sport of ours

Chris - Binop9

Post by: adamessex on November 03, 2010, 12:40:21 AM
I agree some sort of contact list is required, unfortunately we weren't aloud back through the square to come and find you lost bockers. So next maybe a contact list and map. I don't think it would take much to sort out just some with a works photo copier that can be used.

I think charity buckets is a really good idea, maybe carried by ground crew that are suited and booted. Maybe children in need or sports relief if there is one on around the time next year
Title: Re: Halloween Bock 2010 (London)
Post by: Jason on November 03, 2010, 12:57:44 AM
Yes a contact list is a very good idea or even just all swap numbers at the start of the meet (Can bluetooth do a mass transfer)

The bucket idea is a good one and it has come up before but do be aware that you may need certain permisions to collect and I thik you will find that you will not be alowed to collect most of the main venues that we visit due to them being owned by private companys and there are many restrictions on collecting such as licenses

Children in need is a strange one and aroung that time you are alowed to go out with buckets almost anywhere but only at that time of year

This may sound a but draconian but there were alot of people going round london colecting for charitys and keeping the money (crafty hey)

So they "legislated" it to keep an eye on things

But if some people are willing to do the ground work and set it up I see no reason why not but don't just roll up with a bucket and start collecting as you can be detained by the police if you don't have the right paperwork (they will think your a fraudster )

Nice one Jordan

You are a good photographer

I love the way the Eyes on the Dragon came out  (Better than last year with the mirror ones)

Thanks for the public post mate it makes it easier for me at least

Can't wait for the rest

When I want to resize a load of photos I use Paintshop Pro (the free one) as the Pixel size settings stay as you set them so it is 2 clicks and a name for each

Hi Ben,

I would be interested, but am wondering considering the Halloween issues, if the Lodon eye and 3.00pm would be the best.  We were aksed to move on from the Eye, and also it would be dark by 4.00.

If concencus is the Eye at 3.00, then its cool, but maybe worth considering a little earlier for the light, and somewhere with less people to meet?

Further comments can be added if this does go into a new thread.   :Csmile:
