Title: Could we do with one of these?
Post by: Locky on September 01, 2011, 09:27:29 PM
Recently launched International Scooter Association.

http://internationalscooterassociation.com/about/

I like the way it's got the backing of manufacturers, distributors etc.
I'm not entirely sure what it's goals are though, or that scooters need a seperate body to skating.

But I think if bocking had one of these, internationally, it would be a very good thing.

Wonder who has set that up in the first place and if their intentions are truly to develop the sport. Or am I being too cynical! :Cfrown:
I’m a little concerned in case something like this in bocking starts costing us money, and we start getting bound by rules etc.
On the other hand, a “Governing body” so to speak, would definitely raise the profile and standing of bockers which in turn could open doors such as gyms for example.
I think this is worth keeping an eye on to see how it develops. :CGEEK:

I seem to remember about a year or so ago someone contacted us about setting up a bocking association and it turned out to be a money making scheme for the company setting it up (yes SNuD I'm a cynic too  :Claugh:)

Now I'm not saying that this is the same sort of thing but we need to be sure as it can do more damage to the sport than good if it gets into the wrong hands

On the other hand if you are thinking of setting something up yourself Locky I think it would be good as all the sports gooverning bodys that are run by the sportsmen themselves always seem to do good for the sport

The only other point is that Bocking has always been grass roots type unorganised fun and I would hate to see that end and be swamped by bureaucracy

One really good bit about it might be that the governing body could probably arrange a member insurance policy which we all need to be honest

I would definitely be happy to support something like this provided it is all organised openly in a manner and is mutually beneficial to all clubs, individuals and sellers alike, in the past when it has been tried in various companies it was all done with hidden agendas and with affiliations.
