I just got a parcel in todays post It contained a sample of a rubber mat I spotted at a three day event (Horses ) on friday
The man on the stand said that he uses it for the ramps into and out of Equine therapy baths
Now if any of you have seen a horse getting out of one of these baths you'll know how tough this stuff has to be (steel shoes attached to 1/2 a ton of thrashing horse)
It has 2 layers to heavy nylon belting one molded in and the other on the back the rubber has small pointy ridges and seems to stick well
I will fit it as soon as I wear out the present socks If it works well I will use them on the 19th
-
they sound good but where eould you buy them from
-
If it works well I have enough for another 4 sets so after the initial test I will find someone who does extreme bocking and get them to test a set
If they come back and beg for another set I will buy a large mat cut it to size and sell it on
I think they would work out at less than £5 a set so it depends on how well they last as to whether they are worth it
But as they say only R&D will tell
-
lol do you thi9nk they are going to be better then tyre socks
-
Well they will be socks still ;D just not tyre ones
I don't think they will work well on grass but if this stuff grips the way I think it will wet roads and pavement might be just like dry ones and that would be nice
-
thats good do you think that it will loose its stickyness as you use them
-
Who knows only time will tell ;) ;D
-
ok trhanks
adam
-
I finaly got my camera working again this is the stuff
-
And the surface
-
wow! that stuff looks pretty serious :o
-
Yer it grips like velcro the only down side I've found so far is the smell it's hard to describe but imagine a mixture of creosote and strong rubber
It is strong to cleared my sinuses anyway ;D
-
yeah that does look serious i will be getting sum of that of you if it is good ;)
-
Looking forward to the report on that looks good
-
Ok I know I said I was going to wait until the other socks wore out
But I couldn't (never been good at waiting) :D
I put them on last night they are a bit stiffer than tyres and I had to cut them to shape to get the jubilie clip to go round
I went out on them for 3/4 of an hour tonight a mix of walking running and a few jumps (not very high ;D) when I got back I went into the garden and jumped around on grass (about 6" high the grass that is I can jump higher than that ;D)
On pavement and tarmac they are great not one slip even on the dusty gravely bits
On dry short grass (local park) they seemed to grip just like new tyre socks (I even ran up and down hill without slipping)
In the garden on long grass (I thought this would be bad ) guess what they grip better than the mountainbike socks (I was gobsmacked I even tried to make them slip)
As to wearing they have lost the points of of the tread in a small patch so I think they will last at least as long as the socks do but only time will tell
The most amazing thing is how they grip carpet they seem to grab it and pull it up off the floor really weird like a magnet
It would be interesting to see how well the perform with a real bocker (someone who really pushes them )
-
Looks like you found a great alternative to the standard socks. Im sure Urbantricker would be happy to test them out for u lol
-
Yep him da sorta man I need
If you read this Ian are you going to Capital bocking and if so should I bring a set along for you to road test at your leisure (thats assuming you will use socks)
-
I'd offer my services but they probably last longer than my springs. lol
-
Off topic * sorry Jason..
Colin how did you manage to break your skips spring?
-
tundraH
I think the only hope you've got is to contact Tonka Toys and ask if they make bocks ;D
But if you want a pair you can have a pair I think that testing them to destruction would be right up your street (To be honest if they last a couple of days with you I've got a sure fire sales pitch everyone will want a pair "even Alexander Boeck") ;D
-
how old his alex boek or is he dead
-
I'm keeping this news of PP.com, until I now the outcome (The Boecks are watching us).
It is true and after only 14 hours of usage. This snap felt the worst as I knew I had paid alot for my skips compared to the 7 cheap snapped springs I have already worked my way through.
The spring slayer has struck again and this time it hurt my wallet alot. :(

Some people at my work, aircraft part manufacture, have suggested making some metal spring. I think I may not break those.

I'd appreciate that, luckily BmthBloke is lending me his spare Bocks for the London meet but I'm not allowed to touch them until then. lol

Hopefully they will sort it out for you Colin. I thought I mis read when I saw your shout!

I had to blow some steam off and the shoutbox just gave me that. I don't want to bad mouth them or anything. I just hope I get a nice email back from Andrea with some good news tomorrow. I will keep you posted.
-
Fingers crossed for you
-
I shall bring a pair of the super socks to Capital Bocking for you tundraH
I havn't tested them in the rain yet so that will be interesting ;D
But if they survive you I will be a happy man ;)
-
Thank you Jason, I accept your offer. Should I bring a couple of Jubilee clips?
-
Yes might be worthwhile I tried my local stores for some spares and everyone seems to be out of the larger sizes
They do take a bit of putting on as the rubber is thicker that the average tyre but I managed mine by myself so with two of us it should be easy
I went out on them again today and again no slipping the tread has almost worn off but this doesn't seem to change the grip even on grass
I managed to jump a 2ft 6" pole and clear it by 6" on grass today so the grip must be good ;D
-
are u going to be selling this stuff soon ??
and will it be £5 or have u raised the price ?
-
Hey Jason,
Just had a quick read through all the posts... Naz pointed me in this direction.
I will be happy to try them. I am not 100% sure if I am going to the London week next week, but if I do I am sure you will be able to find me or I can let you know on here.
They look like they would work really well!
Cheers,
Ian
-
Great unless you post othtrwise I will bring a pair and just look for a man going end over end on bocks ;D
I mean there can't be that many people on stilts in hyde park on a sunday morning can there ;D
Oh and if I miss you you can just look for the nearest ambulance that will probably be there for me ;)
Jason
-
Hahahah, I love your way of tracking people down.
Should hopefully see you then!
-
Justin
Yes I do hope to be selling them soon
As to the price I think I will be able to stick to £5 + postage it depends on the man supplying the sheet rubber to me
I have managed to recrute tundraH and urbantricker to test them (as you've probably read above) so allow me a month for testing and another to get supply sorted and if all goes well I'll ask Naz to let me start a thread for orders

-
Jason thnx that sounds gr8 !!

haha yeh colin i decided to shave it off a while ago haha, its growing back slowly. but im thinking about shaving it off again!
-
Keep it long ;)
-
Jason,
I have tried to rescehdule my holiday but I can't so I won't be able to make Sunday. However one of my friends Ash should be going if you wanted to pass on the rubber feet to him. He is a thin bald guy who can do a front flip haha.
Cheers,
Ian
-
I'll pass them on to him Ian shame you can't make it
Tell him to look for the fat bald guy that can't do a front flip ;D
-
I tested them on wet roads and grass today (must be feeling brave for a change )
What can I say they grip like a Robbie Williams groopie
I found a shiny metal grate while I wasn't paying attention and thought I was going over but the hoof slid the length of the grate and then just stopped as it found tarmac again
Only a little run on the grass but seems to manage as well as tyre socks
-
Excellent, sounds like they are going to work really well!
-
any idea how soon it will be until they are up for sale?? saw them in london, and as i had to take mine off (too loose) then i will deff be purchasing a pair off of you!
-
