Title: Removing springs to grease bushes

Squeaky bushes :-[ Tried WD40 but it doesn't last very long until the squeaking comes back.

I want to copper grease all the bushes but I am a little nervous about taking a bolt out as I don't know whats actually under tension, or how much tension there actually is.  I don't want to lose an eye or finger as the tension releases :o

Whats the procedure for removing the first bolt to release the tension so I can then remove, grease and reassemble.

And is it hard to get the last bolt back in under tension.

There's no tension the spring is that shape ?  ;D
But I think copper grease is not the right sort of grease to use ?
Do a search for " Copper Grease " or wait for someone to comfirm it ?
Also be care full with the bushes the plastic part sometimes break !?

I was informed to use graphite "grease" but copper grease is almost as good.

Cheers for that DK, yep tried it now and your right, the springs are that shape. I thought there might be some pretension ready to take my head off :o

From earlier threads, Jason and ET both mention copper grease, and as my bushes are phosphor bronze, copper grease should be alright.

The only plastic part is the blue spacer at the top of the spring between the bushes. Im going to eventually replace it for an ali one like Jason did on his. :D

Yep tundraH, i thought about graphite grease, but only had copper grease to hand, so they got that.

Copper grease or graphite are ok on the bronze bushes but are the kiss of death on the plastic ones

I copper greased my plastic ones and they wore really quickly anyone with plastic bushes should use silicon grease or similar

I was told by the guy in charge of my engineering course to use Molyslip on phospher bronze bearings or any grease with molybdenum sulphide in it and it seems to work so far no squeeks and no wear after about 30 hrs use
