Title: Capital Bocking Aug 16+17th 2008
Post by: Locky on January 01, 2008, 08:06:17 PM
A new site has gone up at www.capitalbocking.com

Presently it only has details about the uk event but I'll get details for the US and Australia events as soon as they are put in place and given to me. I know most people who are on PJF are uk based but this might still be relavent to some people abroad.

This year is undoubtably going to be massive for Capital Bocking and I think its great that we keep it commercial free with no sponsors etc :)

The site will be continuously updated over the months to come but I must stress that updated info may not get posted on individual forums etc. This is just so there is no confusion and all information is on one site.

How many girls are there who are on this forum? Its seems to be (another) male dominated sport. Ho hum lol. Proberly due to the fact most girls would rather be shopping than breaking nails.

The number of girls in the sport is always growing.

But as an example of last years Capital Bocking in London here are 2 pics. One is of all 70 of us and one is of all the female bockers that went.
Title: Re: Capital Bocking website
Post by: Spud on January 01, 2008, 09:01:03 PM
Male dominated but not too bad. I try to promote females taking part in some of my other sports but then the guys think I am sexist because I want a female only event or something. Ok it might be a little but but i'm hoping it will get some press coverage and make the sport more appealing to women.

Absolutely. We only have 3 girls in the welsh bockers and whenever we're doing a tv or media thing I always make sure the girls are upfront and getting attention :)

You should tell girls that it can be a good aerobic workout and it's very good at tones the whole of the leg area ( I can't think of any bocker one with a fat ar~~  :o  ;D ).

I totally agree with you Spud, Im female, and when I was younger I was always regarded as a tomboy as I prefered the popular male sports rather than netball  ;D  & stuff like bungee jumping, paragliding, etc

My really "girly" mate just tried parasailing recently after I nagged her just to give it a go, she loved it so much she was like why didnt you nag me earlier lol

I think its just a matter of giving it a chance  ;) ( thats the hard part getting women to change our minds hehe)

I think the JJ will arrange our lifts and relays etc on oursite --avoid clutter ( tho a link back to us on the CB08 site would be handy).

OO the JJ's have also started training for the Sports day. There is some video of 'three legged' training lerking about! Yep it can be done. Use scarfs to tie legs ( wide and comfy). 1 round calves other round feet. Wear the stilts on 'wrong' feet to avoid damage to bindings.

Does any1 have access to a camoflage net? If so could they check if it is practicle to crawl under 1, without the stilts getting caught?

Anyone else training yet? If so what are you doing, can you post vids?  Maybe coordinate. So we all work on 2 or 3 ideas/events a month. So we then get a series of comparable videos. Will keep interest and publicity up for the event at one and the same time.

Anyone else planning to make more than just a weekend of this?

My boss seems to have lost my application for a few day before hand ( and gone on hols himself at mo). So Id like a few days down on the Gower, but not too sure if thats happening now. But more food for peeps to think about.

Oh and I trust you have all been 'scoping the place out --by watching 'Torchwood'.  Been some nice arial shots of our venue on it . Tho I keep thinkin 'Jack get ya ass out of the way --I want to see if that thing behind you is jumpable /

Ok since my announcement about the UK Association doesnt seem to have ruffled anyones feathers I'll go ahead and tell you the capital bocking website has a clean new look and shed loads of more information on it.

Today I had a meeting with Cardiff Council who have finally come around to showing some love to our great sport. They are going to meet with the events team and discuss but it looks like the council are on board with us in some way. This probably means safety barriers and so forth but I really have no idea. They are certainly not simply leaving us to it, which would raise some serious health and safety issues.

What I do need to start doing is knowing realistically how many are coming. It could be anywhere between 100 and 300 but I need a good estimate so please please please if your name is not listed on the capital bocking forum topic (http://www.capitalbocking.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,6.0.html) then contact me in some way.

For those who are camping, I will have details about it posted on the site shortly. For those in hotels, info is on there. I have 20 rooms at the Holiday Inn express at a reduced rate and including parking and breakfast. First come, first serve.

Check it out: www.capitalbocking.co.uk

If you're unsure then take a look at some of the vids and pics from last year (http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=capital+bocking&search=Search).

You'll kick yourself if you miss this meet a chance for the person behind the forum name.

Last year I went I'd been on that much on my Bocks and thought I'd be left out of things not knowing anyone that well. How wrong could I have been  :)
We Bockers are a friendly lot and I was part of the group and chatted to people I never meet before. We that stopped traffic when we bock through London and people where amazed by the number there.

I know there's a lot of young bockers out there but Wales is a nice place to go for a long weekend get your Mum and Dad to take a holiday are buy a pair and join you

If you can't or not allowed to travel alone them maybe get a group together, is could even workout cheaper.

With more than 50 coming this look set to be the big one of the year, don't miss out or come the Monday after this will be your  :banghead:

Can I just say, you dont have to register on the CB forum.
You can PM me on any forum or grab me on msn but I need to be able to start confirming numbers are the whole event will just fall on its arse.
DO NOT SIMPLY SAY IN A FORUM POST - I NEED A PM, MSN or CB Forum.
This event already has the potential to creating the first national bocking festival but it could also get totally called off by the council and police.
I NEED TO KNOW IF YOU ARE COMING.

If your name is not on that list, you aint coming!

as of now we're at 69. My favourite number!

I dont *think* the becky being twice thing is a mistake.
I think maybe its another becky or the one who spells it different and I typed it wrong.

I dont mind if people dont come or cant make it. What I dont want is people saying days and weeks afterwards that they wish they had come.
We talked about CB last year for months afterwards. This is going to be 10 times bigger.

We just hit an official figure of 76 which means we're well on track for 150+ and just under 3 months to go.

I dont mind if people dont come or cant make it. What I dont want is people saying days and weeks afterwards that they wish they had come.
I remember someone did say that ?
This meet is going to be the one you'll be talking about until next years !
With so many coming there's going to be something for everyone .
We are a real friendly lot and doesn't matter how good/bad you are YOUR A BOCKER  and you should come

Last year there were several people that were very disappointed they didn't/couldn't make it. If you dont want to be kicking yourself this year, make the effort and go. Locky has done a superb job of organising this years event and I am sure that everyone is gonna have an awesome time.

Myself for one, I had already booked a week rock climbing in Snowdonia and was sooo gutted I couldn't make the meet
The rocks been there for 1000's of year I think they'll still be there for a couple more years !
Come to CB it's not there the week before or after

DK suggested we have a car pool thread on the Capital Bocking forum.
This is to basically to save people money on transport costs so if everyone who is planning on driving to cardiff can post on the thread then we can start to get organised.
If you're driving please state where you are coming from and on what day you are travelling (and back).

The CB CARPOOL thread is here (http://www.capitalbocking.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,12.0.html).
