Title: Gixer / Spud - Sport Relief Mile - (NORWICH)
Post by: Gixer on February 04, 2008, 12:31:14 PM
http://www2.sportrelief.com/norwich-mile (http://www2.sportrelief.com/norwich-mile)

I am so up for doing this on Bocks!!!  I'd do it in armour but I can't run in it and I will also overheat big time :D

If anyone is up for it then click the link on the website to enter and we can discuss details here, whether we're all going to wear daft outfits or not?

Also for a good cause too   And we could carry leaflets for anyone who asks about us/where to buy stilts etc, will be good PR.....

I've just created an entry and a "fundraising page", I think I can "add others" too so anyone who is up for it, register interest here and I'll find out about adding you.  I've only said I'd do 1 mile cos not sure about anymore!  There are options to go further if you wish.  It's £5 to enter each.

I emailed them to ask, I emphasised we'd be WALKING on them and not jumping around madly (honest) :D

How do you know we'll be allowed?  If we're not then I'm just gonna walk it in armour but I may BOIL, and if it rains I'll have to not wear it in case my weathering runs  :-[ :-[ :-[

I emailed asked and got a reply. And this is what they said. I put this on the noriwch mile thread too.

We are happy for you to complete your Mile on stilts however we would ask that you exercise reasonable caution to ensure the safety of all participants. Please move to the back of the wave that you are starting in so that other Milers can move off and disperse first.

Dont worry guys, Im giving all you lovely sports relief mile running bockers (who are about to punish themselves with sore legs and backs :nana: ) a separate section in the major events board, then Im going to attempt to make each event clear to avoid the confusion!!

But in the process of doing that I hope you forgive me if I get confused myself

Here is my sponsor page I created:

http://www.mysportrelief.com/ea_bockers

I've created a "team" within my page, I called it "Bock-tastic"  yeah crap I know but couldn't think of anything else cos it's late  ;D ;D ;D so if you've already created your own individual sponsor pages, you can search for and join this team by using my name Rachel Smith, or the team name Bock-tastic - then you just add yourself I think.

I've got £83 in sponsorship so far

Yeah you can get the 80s toy proton packs for about £30 on eBay, and my movie accurate nomex flight suit should be here soon, gettin ghte SMITH name patch sorted too but still need to get the "no ghost" patches sorted, but plenty of time yet.  Certainly not wearing my proper replica proton pack as it's not finished yet and it would smash to pieces if I fell over with it on me, it weighs a ton too so not ideal ;D  Would be great if I could carry a smoking Ghost Trap too but I've not got one .......yet

I think the whole idea of dressing up in the ghostbuster style is that you are supposed to have the same as they did, that would be tan, not green!!  :nana:

Talking of dressing up I go through Twickenham every day and have done for many years I spotted a shop with Star Wars gear in it so went in

Now I'm not very observant I only noticed the shop about 2 months ago (acording to the owners its been there for many years)

Oh boy did I get a suprise it's the company that did the original Star Wars gear for the film they charge £995 for a Full Storm Trouper outfit (it actualy looks worth it the amount of gear you get even an under suit to stop it rubbing)

anyway this is their web site

http://www.sdsprops.com

They also do other stuff but if I win the pools guess what I'll be buying (always wanted to be a Storm Trouper )

SDS and Andrew Ainsworth were sued in America by Lucasfilm and banned from selling his unlicensed armour over there - he's also being chased in the UK too, as Lucasfilm reckon his claims of making armour "from the original moulds" are incorrect.  SDS armour is thinner and more prone to cracking, as many troopers have found out, so for the cost it's not outstanding quality.  My armour came from a dude in Canada, is thicker, and so far I've not damaged it and I'm a clumsy mare at the best of times!  You can get better armour for a lot less than SDS gear

Anyway, back on topic - I've now raised over £100 from my online sponsor page, woooo!!     (http://www.mepd.net/forum/images/smiles/dance.gif)  (http://www.mepd.net/forum/images/smiles/peace.gif)

I've decided to wear my Ghostbusters overalls for this event, my screen-accurate Nomex flightsuit and pistol belt are here, I got my name patch done, and my Ghostbusters arm patch is on its way.  Gonna bid for one of those "fancy dress" inflatable Proton Packs on eBay as my proper Proton Pack isn't built yet and is DEFINITELY not safe for Bocking in (weighs a ton and cost the earth).  An inflatable one should be a useful cushion if I end up stacking it again  :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

If I win the inflatable proton pack on eBay there will be a sete of overalls that come with it - in no way screen accurate, it's just a cheap fancy dress kit, but if anyone else wants to be a "Buster" with me then I'll lend you the Fancy Dress overall :D

You will have no proton pack unless u can bag one on ebay - the plastic 1980s toy ones are increasing in value and with the release of the Ghostbusters XBox game later this year, I think it will increase even more.  I'm still going for an inflatableone though, mainly for cushioning my back if I stack it again!

Sandtroopers or Desert Troopers ( same thing !? ) are still Stormtroopers !
Their just a specially trained divisions of Imperial Stormtroopers equipped with modified armor and equipment to withstand the harsh climates of desert planets.
And becuse she wears a white uniform it makes her a officer as for the gun that's an unknown type of blaster.
I know my Troopers

Either grumpy or scared of the unknown. But getting lots of good publicity so soon it should no longer be a problem...just as it stays good :)

Bit sexest but don't most people think yout a lad in it !?
I got a hug from a big fluffy teddy once and looked at their face and said " I hope your a girl !? ". I think I hear a voice laugh and say " yes ! ". Well I hope I did  :-\
You could have a bit of fun and hug a nice looking lad out with his mates ! If he's lucky you could mumble " Give us a kiss ? " They'd laugh thinking it's a gay Sandtrooper until you took the helmet off  :-*  :o

The Scout Association put a lot of work in this year to get the approval of Sport Relief for us to take part. I guess now all the forms and stuff have been done they will allow more people to run next year! (The Scouts were insured though - not sure whether that would make a difference) :) i reckon bockers take over next year - at least one at every event!!

One at every event is a good idea
Wait I can see a problem there was about 8 in my area and I think there's only 4 of us to cover them !?
And isn't it every two years ?
