Title: Just got back from Accident & Emergency
Post by: Beastie on March 02, 2008, 12:33:23 AM
Hi all,

I need some advice about hand protection.

A mate and I were out on our bocks tonight. We've both only had our bocks a week or so and we were just practicing wandering about in the park.

He fell on a bad bit of pavement and managed to snap his little finger. So we spent several hours in the casualty dept of the local hospital... two x-rays... one syringe of rather useless anasthetic... and a doctor grabbing, twisting and resetting the broken pinky.

He was wearing decent wrist guards but obviously they offer little protection for the fingers.

I imagine he'll be posting a picture of his broken digit on here later!

Can anyone recommend some better hand protection? I was considering wearing my motorcycle gloves... but I figure it would be extremely painful to have to take them off if I damaged my hand...

Boxing gloves?! ;)

Cheers,

John

What sort are you using ?
And do they fit right ( size )
Another thing have you got them the right way around  ???
Most guards are fingerless, as most falls the palm hits frist not the fingers and he sound unlucky to hit/break one  :(

I'm wondering if motorcross gloves can be worn with a wrist brace... I'll have to pay the local bike shop a visit (oh damn! How terrible for me.. I have to go look at bike stuff! :P)

And Alt has now posted a pic of his hand...

I'm glad we didn't try to 'fix' what we thought to be a dislocated finger...  that could have been...err... messy.

I just want to say that you should always take care of your self in order for you to avoid accident and go to hospital again.

you could wear all the pads in the world but you will still brake sumin in least expect to only thing i could come up with would be MX gloves or bmx'in ones but the offroad style ones they will be abit more padded but wont stop a brake its all about how you land on it, i know its abig difference but a motorbiker can come off in full pads and brake his spine with a spine protector its all about learnin to fall over
