Title: Meet the Puddster
Post by: Puddster on December 02, 2008, 12:07:23 AM
Hello one and all, another one to join the ranks as a bocker.  Got me a set of Pro-Jumps for my birthday.
(Technically, it's not my birthday until the 12th December, but I got mummy to hand them over early! ).

Anyway, some random facts about me, in no particular order, just in case you want to know:

I'm a student studying Forensic and Crime Scene Science at Bournemouth University.
I'm a geek, love my Xbox 360 and my laptop (and any other computers I have).
I'm in to a variety of music, mostly rock (Within Temptation is being over-played at the moment) but also classical (I study to Mozart, and I'm proud!).
I'm a member of the Moderation Team for the Zedge (Mobile phone ring-tones, themes, wallpapers etc.) forums (currently 11.8M members and growing)
I'm handy with almost all electronics, computers and 'technology'.
I sometimes study advanced theories of particle physics for fun!
I like the colour red (goes well with black!)

My (brief) bocking history:
Day 1 (23rd Nov 2008): 10 minutes of "Wow, this feels weird", another hour of walking aimlessly about with stupid grin
Day 2 (26th Nov 2008): Another 5 minutes of "Wow, I forgot what this feels like" after a couple days of non-bocking, a couple of hours of walking about bouncing again, armed with stupid grin and being beeped at by random drivers/bikers!
(28th Nov 2008):  Kick myself for still not having any protective gear, go to nearest sports outlet, get distracted by punch-bag on sale and finally get some kit
Since then, rain or university assignments have gotten in the way!  Darnit!

Anyway, questions conversations and what not, just give me a shout! ;D

Well, I figured may as well give people a feel for my nature...  Some say it's 'in-your-face', I say it's confidence and fun!  :D

"I sometimes study advanced theories of particle physics for fun"

Advanced !
About time I had someone who could grasp my theories of Space-time and quantum singularities.

Clever doesn't mean sane, far from it.  My lady (another clever cookie) also wants to attempt to incapacitate herself using a pair of bocks at some point in the near future.
She had a play with mine when I first got them, took her two steps before she was walking unaided...  I hate her for being so awesome sometimes, but still, wouldn't have her any other way!

As for the theories of particle physics, I have many an idea of high energy physics and how certain theories can be applied in many different areas!

From what I've seen so far, Spud's the main forum-keeper here! :p

Looks like a friendly community, so hopefully I'll fit right in!  :D

Besides, Mozart > Beethoven!

I was just looking at JJ, and I'm really tempted by the 26th December Bocksing Day Bock-Off ... and a beer, but I'll most likely be back in Dorchester or Yeovil for Christmas unfortunately.  I was talking to my lady the other day saying when she gets her bocks that we'd have to do the sea-front strip from Boscombe to Bournemouth piers.  Hopefully I'll meet some of you local ones soon!

Besides, Mozart > Beethoven!
Beethoven's appassionata and symphony number 9 are the best ever! I like Mozart, but I prefer Beethoven.

Nope, thats not me  :haha:

I've seen the webmaster here and there, but Spud seems much more approachable... :p

As for Beethoven, yes, he has talent, but Mozart's Sonata number 11 is amazing, but still nothing compared to his Requiem (don't remember which sonata that's from, or even if it is part of a sonata).

I'm liking the lack of bigots in these forums and the (potential) of an actual intellectual conversation (possibly; considering we're all a little crazy to be strapping giant springs to our feet and launching ourselves in the first place?)!

lol thanks..you dug me in lil hole now..how do I escape  ??? No seriously, Naz(webmaster) is awesome. Super super helpful and lovely :) and I'm not saying that because I should  Stick around and you will see  ;)

and lol the Requiem is a requiem, no sonata or anything. It is a very powerful piece of music. I like it. Took me a few listens to "get" it tho. But I still like Beethoven best. He was a very clever guy ;)

I'd rather not be a 'bodge-job', but still, once I'm in, I'm in I guess!

Just been looking at the stiltmodz site (and drooling according to my lady...  She wouldn't hand me the tissues!), I think I know what I'll be doing over the Christmas break if it's raining.  I can see a lot of my money being spent on modifications, protection and general bocking equipment, but I'm definitely looking forward to getting into it properly.  Just need to get these assignments out the way, then I can spend (too much) time bocking...

when are they actually gonna update that with new "modZ"?? theres only 3 on there.

I don't think the site will be completed. Zendalfire (the creator) worked really hard and did some great tutorials and even a free prize draw for us. But, he got injured and doesn't bock, other than occasions now. It's a shame because the site is great and he is really cool.

If you look around the forum you will probably find a lot of info on mods. The are some good tutorials on here and a lot of useful other tips too. If you read through the mods section you should find some stuff that helps and some cool mods ;)

Thank you for the welcomes.  Perhaps one day, when I'm good with Pro-Jumps, I can write a few tutorials for the modz pages...  But those days won't be for a while yet, especially with my current work load!

but I'll most likely be back in Dorchester or Yeovil for Christmas unfortunately.

Wooop!
Someone local to me, I live the other side of Sherborne if your coming from Yeovil way.

The only problem is that a week on friday i'm going to New Zealand and Australia for 7months as part of my gap year, so a meet might have to wait a bit  ;D

1)  Damn you for going to NZ, I really want to go out there.
2)  Damn you further for leaving on my birthday!  Now that is just rude...
3)  Have a great time though!

I'm guessing you live around Milbourne way if you're on the other side of Sherbs, but if you frequented Sherbs, you may have already seen be around (I went to Sherbs Boys for a couple of months, didn't like it so became a 'commoner' and moved up to Gryphon).
Are there many other bockers in the Yeovil area that you know of?  If not, I may end up keeping my bocking to Bournemouth for the most part.

hey you should come to the meet in london on the 14th
As much as I'd like to, I don't think I'll be able to make the meet on the 14th, got my birthday on the 12th, and I think the family (or the lady) want to steal me for the few days afterwards.  Will definitely attend as many meets as I can though!

Yeah, I'm in Milborne and just finished a levels at Gryphon Sixth form.
How long were you at the gryphon for?
Do you know one of the DT teachers called Mr Grundy?

There are one or two people around here but if you want to do some proper bocking i'd suggest Bournemouth as thats where most people are.
Title: Re: Meet the Puddster
Post by: Puddster on December 05, 2008, 12:01:34 AM
I was at Gryphon from Jan/2004-Jun/2006, Physics, Maths and ICT were my A-levels.  The name Grundy rings a bell, but I don't think I ever really met him (unless it was in passing).

It's nice to know there's a couple of bockers in and around Yeovil, but seeing as I spend most of my time in Bournemouth anyway, I can't complain!

Just stuck me some hooves on my bocks today, started making some spring armour out of a nicely hacked up bicycle tyre...  Would be so much easier with some scissors and a decent hole punch rather than a knife and a basic tool kit!  My lady's going to do the stitching for some QR knee straps when she gets some time, I've already cut everything to size and so far, so good (touch wood!).

Any other suggestions/recommended moderations for my bocks while I'm on a roll?

As soon as I have the money (and time), my bocks are being turned a deep red and black colour scheme.

How easy is it to replace the (in my case bright orange) foam behind the calves and are there any recommended replacements or mod guides?

Thank you for the welcome aidanh1, broke your knee caps?  How long ago did that happen?
Title: Re: Meet the Puddster
Post by: Dark Knight on December 05, 2008, 01:51:28 PM
You could pull the foam out  (they are held on by stitching ) and glue a different colour in it ( don't know of anyone that has ) but may take some of the strength way ?
Why not just upgrade them to a better pair that's what most people do.

Post by: Spud on December 05, 2008, 07:32:38 PM
He only just got his bocks. Replace them so he can have a different colour calf pad?

Maybe you could staple some other fabric over them..I duno lol..

Do a good job with the paint or you might regret it lol

Post by: Jason on December 05, 2008, 09:21:40 PM
Why not just paint them with permanent markers (test a small area first in case it melts the foam)

You can get them in a few colours nowdays I bought a pack of 4 in Sainsburys Black,Blue,Red and green for about £2

That would save you from tearing the foam off

well pudster :P i say i broke them but my knees have allways been knda bad and i jumped rong one day and i wasnt able to walk for a week i went to my doctor and he said that i must of hyper extended them a little or the soket moved summa tlike that im not into all this medical mubo jumbo but anyway ive been excersising my muscles in my legs so when the ice and snow has gone i will be bocking once again :D
Title: Re: Meet the Puddster
Post by: Puddster on December 06, 2008, 12:01:20 AM
Replacing them is a little extreme for just changing the colour of one bit of padding.  I'm considering the inks from a permanent marker, and if they don't work, I'll steal some of mummy's dye.  I'm sure she has some red somewhere!
Stapling some material over them may not be as crazy as it sounds actually, (1) extra padding and (2) my own design work (perhaps speak to a friend and get a embroidered logo...  *brain clicks into first gear*).
As for me and paints?  I'm a perfectionist, if it's not done perfectly, it gets done again from scratch!

As for the dodgy knees?  Join the club, I have tibal-osteoperosis or something with a fancy name like that (basically too much cartilage between my knees making them painful occasionally).  I have to know all the 'medical mumbo jumbo' for my degree.  Today I was tested on 20 bones from the body, which was great fun, got a 40 bone test coming up on my birthday (next Friday).

Anyway, I should get some work done so I can spend some time finishing my spring armour tomorrow and not feel like I've got no work for university done!

Oh dear, it's the weekend and words like this are cropping up?!

I'm studying law today, so the human anatomy will have to wait.  It's law today, forensic practices tomorrow and then a team project until Wednesday and after that, I've got to cram the name (and how to side) every major bone in the body.  But once the 12th has passed, I'll practically be a free man.  I can't wait!

When it's raining, one should be modifying one's bocks, not playing WoW!  At least, that's what I seem to end up doing unless I'm busy with university!  Anyway, I hope to see you bocking around sometime, can't wait until the christmas period is over so bocking meets can be arranged :D
