The way I go around 90 degree turns is this: walk upto the turn, stop, rotate 90 degrees, continue walking. :P For the rest, I take longer strides on the leg that is going around the outside of the turn, like how a tank's tracks go faster on the outside of a turn.

tank treds use skid steer. you do exactly the same as if you were walking, move one leg further than the other. i have actualy seen some one run a corner, leaning as if you were on a motobike.

If you want to do it while jumping you just need to shift the position of your feet a little and lean(if needed), though things like that would be easier with tilting footplates.

I had my hardest wipeout doing a fast running corner. The hoof lost traction and skidded out sideways and i went down hard.

Yep it's a normally a hard one when your feet go out on a corner

I did a beaut on a car park a couple of years ago
It felt like half a side flip when I did it  :Claugh:

And you should have heard the slap sound I made hitting the ground

are there actually tilting foot plates out there

how do you think they would work?

well i think it 'fairy oil' in the bearings ....but i may be wrong

And whilst you may get a more 'correct' answer  , I dont think you will get a 'better' 1 :Cyes:

Q where can I get some of this Fairy Oil and how good is it  :Claugh:

Yes there are tilting footplates but they tilt fore/aft not left/right so they don't help with corners

But they make bocking easier (at least I think so )

to be honest i was thinking of tilting hoofs...
they could be a lot of fun
just have the bottom tilting left and right .but they would also have to be spring loaded to snap back straight

hmmm this sounds like a fun project to me,
time to trash a pair of sky runners me thinks :)

Tend to agree with you there Q

But I will await the developements with interest RRparlbystumble

Could be good if you limit the movement but not sure it would help with turning

I think it could be dangerous when jumping...we all have a bad landing every so often. If you landed slightly off balance and had a lot of weight on one of these joints I guess it would be more likely to break.

not the bones....
.... worst JJ accident  and on the 3rd bounce at 1st meet!!!  SOFT TISSUE   Guy just gently warming up , stumbled   but  quite naturally turned, as falling, to grab ground. Hoof grounded 1st and with them lower limbs stopped moving .But guy had 'turned' rest of body kept moving.  Result, serious soft tissue damage to knee!!!! yep serious oooch  and an operation!!!

AND looking back , could it have been avoided?  only possibly  and I wish

Like all these things we won't know until it is tried

I think you have a point Spud but I must admit the first time I went on the tilting footplate I thought
"Here comes a broken ankle"  :Claugh:

But now I'm used to them I hate bocking without them

It really is amazing that we don't have more Knee injurys Q
When you think about it we should have a lot more

haha first post in ages XD

turning corners when walking is easy u just spin on a foot (hope u have good balance) :P

and turning with a corner as every says it is tricky but not impossible now i cant do / couldnt do tricks but i can run :P hehe and when taking a corner if ur hoofs are up to the grip all u need to do is lean and stride forward its preety easy just overdo what ud normaly do when running round a corner obv watch out for wet leaves and small stones or ull end up in A+E :P

(yes im back with my terrible grammer, spelling, words and annoying contrutions)

the problem with spinning on one hoof is it imitates what happens when you dry steer with a car,
it rips ups the grip , even more annoying when you have tire socks on -.-

on the subject of tilting hooves ,
a spring loaded truck design could possible work, like on some mountain boards
i know it's ridiculous idea but it could be fun as an experiment :P
