Hi sorry for delay in  replying. I had a lil holiday ( bocking with my ol m8 swebounce ;D). Then got chucked loads of work when I got back.

I expect to have a team of 6 and hope for 10 more is possible but that just depends on if things hit peoples imagination.

At the moment I have 4 confirmed and another 10 interested to various degrees. I expect a few more to get interested and a few to drop out. So things look on schedule. This means I shall register a team this w/e.

It will be on risers, I emailed the organisers to check it was OK but had no reply - so Im taking that as an all clear. But if you have any friends/partners who would like to come along on foot that would be great cos I think a bit of ground crew might come in handy.

I must confess to 2 extra reasons for suggesting this event, 1stly to raise the profile of the sport -yes pun intended ;D. 2nd it should give those on the walk who come from London the oppatunity to get to know each other and work out some meets in the capital.

There are a few quite well organised groups around the country now. Essex, South Wales and the South Coast spring to mind. We would love to get together in larger groups and London seems quite an obviouse place. But we need peeps on the ground to organise/ find bock spots ;D

Are we going to be promoting safe bockin, by wearing safety gear, such as a helmet, etc. or just a come as you want thing?b :-\ Also I will have a first aid kit with me, as me and my friend are both qualified first aiders!!!  ;D
Title: Re: 'Walk for Life' Hyde Park 10th June
Post by: Bbmthbloke on May 25, 2007, 04:01:21 AM
Hi , just checked you will need to register, you have tosign in as you turn up. We can dictate what people wear, I recommend pads, but it is up to the individual. By all means bring 1st aid kit but there will be stewards and 1st aid people about, I wouldnt want people carrying more than is needed for 10 Km. Most esential thing to bring Id say is water.

Tundrah ( also comming) has supplied me with a tube of stuff thats used to lubricate aeroplanes.  Lot smaller than a can, ill bring it. But spray 1st thing in mornin.

We can do a check nearer time  just to make sure we have no more than 1 of each and any 'essentials'.

I dont have tyre soxs   i normally wear trainers ( yes on the hoofs) but need a new pair.

A lil bit more padding round knee gaurd maybe an idea if you dont already have extra plumbing type foam stuff round them. Also webbing straps around the knee to hold you to your stilts firmly is good if you dont already. I use pinhead straps which are considered the tops , tho another person comming will be sporting fancy poweriser calf cuffs. Its in that area that id expect any chaffing

Well it all seems to be comming together.  cheers guys

Jason, don't worry about your walker id, as I do not know mine either!!  ;D you should be able to find a sponser form which you can print off on the walk for life website, or just go to http://www.walkforlife.co.uk/Design/50/SponsorshipForm.pdf and print it off from here, I am going to use a local event near me to try and raise some funds, and I am going to hound my local supermarket stores, for donations!!  ;D

We may have to cross over millennium bridge, and just a word of warning, it is a fully metal bridge, and if it rains, it will become very slippery, so we will need to take some care!! I finally got myself some pads, and a 2 Litre hydration pack, so I can drink as I bock!!  ;D

Post by: Bbmthbloke on May 26, 2007, 04:56:29 PM
Well lets hope for no rain. But its not as big a problem has peeps make out. As a complete noob on my first bocking in london I was obliged to 'wade' hoof deep thro puddles and walk about on wet cobble stones , all doable. But as you say with just a lil care

What are we going to do about meeting up, as I thought about meeting up at about 9:45 on the south bank, near the London Eye, as long as people have all day travel cards for the tube. The reason I thought this, as it means that we can check all of our equipment, to make sure that we will not squeak, lose a card, etc.  ;D
Title: Re: 'Walk for Life' Hyde Park 10th June
Post by: dragon on May 29, 2007, 09:49:11 AM
the london eye is in the compleat wrong direction for me

i would like to keep my footsteps to a minimum

would it be posible to meet out side the nearest tube station ??? hude park
i'll be the tall man on stilts LOL

im going to take my pj's apart and copper grease everything the night befor and that should sort out the squick :)

Title: Re: 'Walk for Life' Hyde Park 10th June
Post by: Bbmthbloke on May 29, 2007, 06:37:13 PM
Yep , i think meeting as close to Hyde park is best, 1 person comming from leicster so he will def not want to go past the park and back. Ill be with a group from the south west ( probably via victoria coach station). I cant spot my a-z at the mo or Id name 1 or 2 of the tube stations around the park. The 1 on the northern side would probably be the best 1

When I find a tube map ill post it

The day before I jumped over an 18" paper bale and cleared it by a good 6" it's when your not paying attention that accidents happen  ;D

i would believe it. its the same in other sports ive done  mountain biking , surfing.  if you r prepaired and expecting the worst then the body is too and you are ready to roll etc with the fall or insidence. You get hurt when you dont expect it. Worst cycling injury - didnt pull handlebars up as i approach a curb --yep  went down on head -whiplash.

but  just get better slowly  dont race it

almost 5...... It was such a fun day, the best meet so far. I will definately be doing it again next year

I was asked by a woman that runs one of the charities out in South Africa about the bocks. I told her there were kids versions available. She said she would like a couple of pairs for the kids to have a go. So you may get a call Naz....

His raising huge amounts of interest in Scotland for the sport where he currently is and has been featured in a few papers too, above all with our help he could raise huge amounts of awareness for epilepsy too.

If any of you guys have my space accounts, websites etc don't forget to link to him!

It was a long hot day  and i still ache. But was such silly fun. I reccon we did close on 2 Km b4 we left the park   just bouncing for the cameras.

As you may have guessed  the 'phone box' refers to 'how many pro jumpers can u get in an old style red phone box'  you will have to wait for the pix ;D

But it does set a new challenge ---'how many pro jumpers can you get in a mini'!!!

Im not sure how some of our number had the energy to jump around in the sk8 park at the 7Km mark ???

Must have been something in the pimms and in the beer!!  ;D I am not too sure how some of us did that in the skate park!! I think the kids wanted us to go and let them skate, as we had taken over the skate park!! lol  ;D 8) ::)

I think it’s just your enthusiasm for the sport it shines through and gives you that extra strength

Lets just call it the magic of bocking  ;D

also it was the all time classic 'ive started so ill finish'. but seriously  if any1 now thinks they will do a sponsored walk like this. Do just a lil training, drink water  slowly but steadily, wear a sun hat, dont carry extra stuff ( ideally get some ground crew), make sure all your straps and bindings are comfortable. Im a postman im on my feet walking and cycling for hours a day and even for me in that temperature  the last couple of K's were hard, for others i know it was really really difficult.

I would agree with Q, training is ideal for events like this. I walk a lot in my daily life and 10K's is not an unusual distance for me to walk. The main problem I had was with my bindings being too tight. You also have to pace yourself, there is no point doing lots of tricks at the beggining only to find you have peaked to early. It's all abount endurance not showing of styles....although we did stop lots to perform for people ;D

It was really hot as well on the day you took part so that may have added to the exhaustion
