Bocking in the dark
« on: September 12, 2007, 10:50:14 AM »
When I first got my pair I pimped them up with flashing lights.
I live in a small village and roads are not well lit, the flashing lights did show up in the dark but may confuse drivers !?
I've found some red LED lights on EBAY ( good old ebay  :) ) and about to fix them on I have a some white lights to fix on the front too.  ;D

Has any else fitted lights on their pair

The lights are really just to show you. Dont think cycle lites help much too see the way bocking.

Ive seen bike lites and led strings of lites ( wrapped around springs)

In all honesty if your out on the streets when its dark you NEED a high visibilty vest on or something that is very reflective.

What you need are a set of blue cold cathode tubes under the footplate to light the lower section like a custom car  ;D

If they were bright enough it would look like you were hovering on a pillar of light  8)

Im gonna buy some blue LEDs from maplin or wherever and stick them on mine :)

I rapped gaffer tape round the spring to protect it then put a strip of hazard tape down it, they look cool !

I'd wear a hi viz vest (can steal plenty from work).
Because I wear a helmet, I'd mount a miners type light on that, and put self adhesive reflective tape down the springs front and back.  3M make some tape that would do the trick!

If you are out at night be careful of leafs and fag packets on the floor !?
Has the days get shorter more of you will be bocking until it gets dark if you don't want to use lights on your stilts then like Araya213 does wear a Hi viz vest ! You can get some that fold up small and put in your pocket so you only need it then it get dark !?

I think it might be good to make the springs visible, as some people will have no idea what the hell is going on! With just the hi viz on, it looks like an incredibly tall person in the dark, moving very oddly!

And as a motorcyclist I can say, yes, watch out for wet leaves, rubber has not much grip there!
