« on: November 26, 2007, 08:41:34 AM »
i tried my friends bocks the other day, needless to say it was awesome. it was my first time and i managed to walk run and hop from one leg to the other. but as i did the last two i kept on bending my knee back, i wanted to know if anyone else had this problem and if you know what i'm doing wrong. thanks

Hi DB,

Yep, happened to me to begin with  :( . Basically, I now keep my knees very slightly bent so they don't go backwards, and don't lean forwards  :D

The word your looking for is Hyperextend .
And on JP's even the best of us at times do it ( Becky just back after a bad knee bend ) .
Like Gillybert says try to keep a slight bend in you you knee at all times, even well it's the trailing leg ( running ). Your PJ add's extends your leg which mean if you land badly there's a lot of force going through the knee joint so be careful and bend that knee .  :o

Well, actually, its only a HyperExtended Knee if you actually injure yourself. What he is doing could end up in a HyperExtended Knee, which is the most common injury within the Bocking community. So be very careful BDeyes, I have just recovered from one myself. Take it easy until the muscles build strength around your knees. :). Try to walk around a lot before jumping and running and it should take next to no time.

Hate to say wrong but ?
I had a smashed leg in a bike crash ( there's a picture of my metal plate in gallary ) I then became an aerobic teacher for a number of years so I think I know a thing or two !?

In normal standing alignment, the leg forms a straight line from ankle to hip, with knee over ankle and hip over knee. If your knee is hyperextended, however, the leg will appear to curve back, with the knee behind an imaginary straight line drawn from ankle to hip.

 :)

I have made my knee go backwards a few times, walking it off quickly helped me, to stop it from hurting!!

You are right DK, but its exactly what I was saying. All I am saying is that BDeyes was not talking about an injury, but rather an action his leg made. After consulting a doctor about my own knee I learnt that an Hyperextended knee is an injury, where the ligaments are stretched. It doesnt sound like BDeyes was actually injured is all I mean :)

Sounds more like a discomfort thing, than a injury, hyper-extension does hurt alot when you do it!!  :)

thanks for all you're help guys, and the second time i did it, it hurt so much i fell to the floor. so abit more than slight discomfort. and @ DK, i know what you mean about the hyperexpension, like when some people straighten their elbow and it seems to bend backwards. it's more commonly called "double jointed" and i will keep my knees bent! thanks

if it hurts alot then dont bock for about a week and it should heal then walk and run arond a little bit to tuffen your muscles around your knee or do as i do and get on a bike and ride op a ver steep hill every week that will tuffen your legs and knees and it will not hurt anymore ;D

Erm. Nothing to do with being 'double jointed' lol. But great to hear your feeling better!

BDeyes what you have is Bockers Knee when I first came on the forum it was discused a lot but hav'nt seen mention of it for a while
We all get it to some extent when we start Bocking and the good news is it stops when you get used to the movement and the muscles build up

You will also probably get Bockers Back later that will go with time to

If you search this or any Bocking forum you for Bockers Knee or Back you will come up with loads of hits and loads of explanations of why  ;D
