Indoor Training area
« on: January 06, 2008, 08:57:20 PM »
Earlier in the month I offerd to try to get an indoor venue somewhere in Lincolnshire that Bockers could train in

I will be talking to a number of Lincolnshires Sports Development Officers over the next 4 weeks as well as Schools Sports Development Managers.

I know that North Kesteven Council are very pro extreme sports and have a co-ordinator developing sports in Sleaford and North Hykeham. Also looking to see if I can get access to a City School Gym

I need some information on the following

1)What sort of height does the roof need to be
2)What equipment would you like to be on site (mats ect)
3)How long would you want to be on site training
4)Do you want this to be a regular event, if so how often
5)How many people can you safely get in a normal sized sports hall
6)How many would be interested in attending
7) When would you want to hold the first session

Only other question is does anyone have a First aid certificate or done any Child Protection Courses. To get access to local authority sites the last two are not essential but very desirable

Thanks

I have some level 3 first aid course thing... I have done a few others too. My mum is a child protection officer for our flying club and has been on the courses but I doubt she would be willing to go down there. She is also has todo lots of first aid because of her job so there would be no harm in asking. Would just have to pitch it right...

1)What sort of height does the roof need to be - 4 metres~ish?
2)What equipment would you like to be on site (mats ect) - Yep Mats, ie high jump crash mats?
3)How long would you want to be on site training - 2 hours i'd say?
4)Do you want this to be a regular event, if so how often - depending on turn out once/twice a month
5)How many people can you safely get in a normal sized sports hall - normal size is? I'd say 20~ish
6)How many would be interested in attending - everyone as long as they can get there
7) When would you want to hold the first session asap

Anyone else got anything to add?  :)

I wouldn't just be thinking flip training, if its a posibility think of other areas you could improve skills on such height training? Stuff like a vaulting horse (think thats what they called!)

could be a massive help to improve your jumping /vaulting techniques.

You might want to go a bit higher than 4mts if you watch Kiola and a few others they are well over 2 mts on their bocks and they can get 2mts + height so 5 might be the minimum or you could end up  :banghead:

preferably over 5 meters crash mats and high jump mats wud be good for those who want to flip

like naz sed horses and most other gym equipent wud be good things like foam blocks to jump over would be fun

maybe a trampoline for those wanting to practise without bocks on it could be a way of learning new tricks without the thort of falling on the floor

1)What sort of height does the roof need to be - Roof will want to be well over 5mt high more towards 7 - 8 m high most gyms will have a high roof tho because of basketball n other sports played in them

2)What equipment would you like to be on site (mats ect) - equipment would be large crash mats, and things to jump on and over for height and confidence training and improving not all members want to flip, also something to vault over but the major thing would have to be the crash mats were all used to falling over but sports hall floors tend to burn skin if u slide on them so crash mats would be a good idea

3)How long would you want to be on site training - 2 hours max indoors

4)Do you want this to be a regular event, if so how often - wouldnt be able to say how regular until we had a meet there

5)How many people can you safely get in a normal sized sports hall people into a sports hall on bocks i could easyily say 20 of us lets b honest wer not all going to be flipping and jumping onto the same things we all watch each otha n give advice make fun when people fall over etc so wouldnt b manic

6)How many would be interested in attending - i think the whole group would like to attend wont know how many will go unless a date is given but i know the whole group would want to and i could comfortably say at least 10 would go mayb 15

7) When would you want to hold the first session - As soon as possible really but bearing in mind how much time people need to give to get the date off work needs to be a realistic date

Thanks for this info will start to investigate but please keep any ideas coming

I am first aid qualified, with Child protection and CRB checked so not an imeadiate issue. However having more than one will mean that we would be ok if I could not make a session.

You guys should do a map for the EA's (like the pro-jump one) that pinpoints where each of you are, you could just stick it in the EA Bockers board and whenever a new EA Bocker joins they can just add their pin to both maps.

That way when it comes to doing meets, such a a gym meet you would find it easier to organise a place thats central to all of you.

Then Charlie B could consider the posible locations closest to what's central to all the EA's, this way more of you are likely to make it regularly!

My contacts and info are lincolnshire based, others do similar jobs in other counties

in Norfolk County Sports Partnership is at www.activenorfolk.org

This will get you access to the Sports development officers in that area. If you live near a school ask who the Partnership development manager is or who is the local School Sports co-ordinator. They may be able to help with access to local school sports halls.

Quick update

I am discussing requirements with two centres

Boston
Pricess Royal Sports Arena Boston Lincs

Lincoln
Either Birchwood leisure centre or Yarborough Leisure Centre

Awaiting info on costs and safety requirements

Also can source a gymnastics coach to work with those wanting to do flips ect starting with a trampet & mats. Not sure how this is transitioned into using PJ`s maybe the more experienced can tell me.

If we can get Lincoln other bockers from Notts, Derbys & Leics may be able to attend.

May also be able to look at an event nearer Spalding if needed but we do need 15 + turning up regularly

I will also be looking into the UEA just on the edge of Norwich, they have a huge sports centre there sectioned off, so there can be lots of things going at once, When I next go in for Volleyball im going to take my bocks and ask. (mite try some volleyball on them as well!)

Thanks for this. Talking to the City Council & the service provider to try and get a reduced rate. Will be useful to see if they can reduce against standard rates

If you are loking to use the Centre in Norwich also talk to City Sports Development Officers who may be able to give support which is always useful when talking to centre operators as they are part of the council that usually either pays them or give them the contract to operate.
