Impact shorts?
« on: January 24, 2008, 11:29:46 AM »
Anyone use them?  As well as providing lower spine protection they protect your hips and thighs too....if anyone uses them, what brands are recommended?  If I wore just a backguard then my hips are unprotected.....I'm v. skinny and would snap easily I think so I need ultra-padding :(

They have been talked about on here. They can't be a bad idea seeing as most people mention buying them after they have hurt thier lower back or someting.

There really is no harm in it if you are worried and also getting them will give you a peace of mind if you are worried about "snapping".

You should just research and shop around...look for good recommended brands and stuff by spying on other peoples forums...I think they are used by snowboarders lots.

There's always Bill C's tail bone protection

Quote from: http://www.powerbockresources.com/
TAIL BONE PROTECTION
Falling backwards onto one's butt from such a height can easily cause a painful tail bone injury.  A simple padding solution is to cut four 10" lengths of foam pipe insulation tubing and tape them together with duct tape. Then, all you do is slip the home-made pad vertically down into the back of your pants as part of your bocking safety equipment.  You may be very glad you did.

Always better to be protected seen too many guys seriously injured because of bravado

My son who is 13 has bocks and I also ensure he wears the kit, he makes the same comments.

Its not that bad. Just feel a little over dressed but if i am completly honest all the safety gear actually fits the look you have on bocks. So you only look stupid not on bocks as long as you are on them you dont look too bad

Back to impact shorts, i have used them for freestyle skiing, and my sister uses them for snowboarding, in the event of a huge crash they help i guess, but i don't use them for bocking as they are a bit bulky and i find restrictive. They are not that expensive at £25 ish, which is good though :)

There seem to be loads of different types and thickness regardless of cost....either way they're gonna make my bum look big  :o  but I'd rather that then do my back in  :-\

Or just wear a spine protector!

But that doesn't protect your pelvis and the lower lumbar area's  :-\
The hip a stronge and the back meant to curl up !?

If you feel myself falling backward the first thing is don't tense up, your more likely to break a bone if you tense up !?
Ever noticed how drunk poeple fall over and get up ( and fell over again ) and hardly hurt themseleves, their relaxed,P :censored: D but relaxed  ;D

You sort of learn how to fall on bocks aswell after time, if you want to look like you havnt got a big bum you could wear baggy cargo trousers its what i do but not to hide my bum its apparently really small anyway but its also more comfy with baggy trousers
