Damaged Springs
« on: February 02, 2008, 06:11:32 PM »
I have only been blocking for about 4 weeks now. I have been able to jump quite high, run quite fast, hop on one foot and skip.

I have damaged my left spring, by falling over. There is a small gash about 1cm long by 5mm wide by 5mm deepon the outside of the left spring. I can see some sort of threads on the inside. I am not sure if the spring is safe enough to use, but i though i might aswell ask you guys, because you must have had this problem before

Thanks all

If you can post a picture, then we will be able to assess the amount of damage, and on how safe it will be to use!!

I was wondering that. Were your springs taped? Tape is a life saver and looks funky too. Mine are wonky strips lol

I use bike innertube on mine, as I find it gives better protection than tape!!

Between seeing zendalfires covers and Carma in in the same post it's given me an idea

Now a set of Leather bodice laced (with leather laces of course) covers would look so cool
Maybe with some silver studs too

What you think Carma think they would go with the rest of your outfits

ffs, i just rot rid of some rude off road bike tyres, that looks wicked, i think i will be adopting this style very soon. Thinking about it if they are fitted well could they not give a bit more tension to the spring, like the bungie cord idea? i dont know how much i weigh somwhere around 82kg i think, i got 80/90 spring which i can top out pretty much at will.
i want more spring though

I think if i had to buy new springs I would just buy a brand new pair so that I had a spare pair of bocks and also springs cost a lot.

There's nothing wrong with your spring the tapes done it's job :)
What you should do is carefully cut the scuffed up tape out and put a coulpe of more layers of tape on your springs.
don't think that the more layers of tape you us the less flex you'll have, it'll take a stupid amount of layers to do that. I've seen a MOD that uses a bike tyre  :o

I think i might use that idea of the bike tyre, because it protects the spring, and looks sooo cool.

Thats a bummer!!! That looks like a proper scr***e you done on your springs, shame that it happened when you taped them too. Looks just like a surface wound. Also, I would only be worried if it was at the bottom of the spring, nearer the foot plate.

From the picture I can't make out how much is damaged, however tundraH's the expect on springs  so I'm sure he can advise further.

If its just a surface mark then you may be ok but make sure you keep checking it before / after you bock and if its a long session take a quick look when you are having a break, just to be on the safe side.
