and i then found these ones.

When I my dad went to the job centre, as a laugh he got the adviser person to print out on of the jobs... Adult telephone operator... (Must be over 18)

I know I'm gonna sound like a   but I've gotta say it

I knew a paper reel technician and it is quite a good job

He was in charge of the big reels of paper they make newspapers out of and they weight tons and have to be accelerated up to amazing speeds without ripping the waferthin paper they hold

I seem to remember the paper does someting like 60 mph and when it goes wrong thats an awful lot of waste paper to tidy up  

Someone chucked a trainer into the press once and it wrecked the press and the trainer came out 1/16" thick and over a yard long  

So if you take the job Toddy don't get your fingers caught  

I did have a job as a Multi plate Steenbeck delivery and setup technician
And boy are they a bu**er to cart up stairs in a soho film studio (but the scenery was nice  )

I also worked as a Minder in a cloths store (don't even ask  )

Keep looking Toddy there's a job out there with your name on it

My Dad works for Andrex in the Papermill, he actually works on the huge machines that control the cutting and pressing and packaging of the rolls. So, I guess he could come under the catergory of Paper Reel Technician.

But Jason is right, it pays VERY VERY well.

Does the softwipe paper come on a massive roll and get cut into thinner strips or are the rolls 5" wide and 10ft high

If I remember correctly the rolls are about 4 metres high by about 10 metres long, and the paper is thicker than what we see on the actual loo rolls, so needs to be reduced.

Steenbeck steenbeck! I really really really want one. I spent the last like 2 months animation on 16mm film on a steenbeck and I LOVE IT! Most fun ever. The noise it makes Ahhh eveything about it...oh man, I want one so bad,but hell, why are there so many plates and paths to take the film. And why do I always put the spools on the wrong way so the film just lostens up..argh..but still, I love it and I want one But hell, they are so huge and heavy. bet that job sucked

Yep they were a bit of a pain when the lifts used to be to small so you had to drag them up a few flights of stairs

Thats absolutely nuts. I dont think I could move one across the room  thought I broke it the other day, didnt have the screen turned on

The screen lifts off and the two big metal legs unbolt so your left with that big flat desk section on its own (and you can loose a few other bits to lighten)

But that desk bit goes on a sack barrow except through doors

And this was a one man job (not much HSE 25 years ago  )

I think I could still do it today but I would ache the next day (but them I used to ache then too  )

One man job!  I have a really bad habit of leaving stuff on the plates. You turn it on and the edit room keys go flying, the gloves go pretty well too and if you dont have film in there when you turn it on the light blinds you

That desk bit must weigh a tonne, didnt know it disassembled like that. It looks fairly solid. I cant imagine one person ever moving it alone.

There were a few different sizes the main one we moved had one or two spools a side and the desk was about 6 ft long by 3ft wide and about 8-10" deep

And sometimes the splicer was built on or came seperate and just sat on top

If you take the pannels off you can put bottles in the desk section (on the way back from paris  )

The desk bit only weighs about 2 cwt on it's own the hardest bit was the bigger screen it was so awkward to carry the smaller screens were better

My favorite job was making up the tail end reels (for leaders and the tail end ) I have still got a cut from Indianna jones and the temple of doom somewhere (the bit where he slides down into the mine truck) also had a cut from Play Misty for Me but gave that to an Eastwood fan

I used to get to meet the nicest people to I ran into the Attenborough brother that does the wildlife docs (can never remember there first names) and he chatted for ages really nice guy

I used to deliver to Pinewood, Teddington and all the main studios around london we were based at Sheperton (that was fun too all the studios you could peek into )shame the job only lasted a few months now I have to put up with Thesbians

Wow! Thats so awesome! What a cool job!!! Must have been exhausting but awesome!

The one I been using has 3 spools, small screen and separate splicer. I hate splicing tho..its like argh, on a computer you can undo, but on that its liek eek, you can tape it back up but its still scary.

Yep splicing was fun but all I had to do was the leader and tail reels so no worries about continuity  just make sure they are all stuck together

By the way I just dropped you in it  Wolf wants to put up a Banned Sig like mine and Clives so I pointed him at the graphics and said to ask you how to get it on his posts (yes I know I'm useless  )

Might be worth doing a walkthrough for idiots like me so we can DIY instead of bothering you or naz would go well in the Pro-Jump FAQ section

Leader....i have tonnes of the stuff around here, countdowns and some normal blue stuff, and the clear actually but I animate on that

About sigs, yeah good idea I dont mind being bothered about it but it is a very common thing and will be a useful thing
