as the topic says... im buying new wrist guards as my current ones are rather worn down and getting too small

any suggestions to decent/comfy/solid makes?

No Fear wrist guard are good
I have used them all the time i have been bocking
And all my mates use them, and had no problems

Flex master wrist gaurds are what jason and clive use..... they are really really good ... expensive, mind you.... guess it depends on how much u wanna pay --- I would post a link but i cant find them online. best asking jase or clive.

I had no fear wristguards and altho they were comfy they were also pretty flimsy compared to most others. They are ok to wear but I dont think they would be good to fall on.

I have seen the ones clive and jason have and they look great.

ugh, nofear guards are the main reason i've got little lumps of fat under the skin on my wrists, definately not that great

agreed that clives ones are sexy, thinking of getting some myself

What about the ones you can buy on the main PJ website, ive got them and there cheap and easy.

Thats Flexmeter Bexx and you are right they are really good and last ages (2 years so far)

They were designed for snowboarding at first but I use the Multisport ones as they have a detachable skid plate

Bad bit is they are £40 a pair but how much are your wrists worth

thinking im going for the flex master after i check my local scate shop... the flex master are costly but i think they might win overall - tho it depends how cheap i can get out of the shop

) you will see my shattered wrist (done without wristguards

)

Now the good bit 6 months after I did that I had an almost identicl fall on the same wrist (not to be recomended

) and it only stung a bit what better way to test them

Agreed. If you cant afford the flex meter ones then the pj ones are probably better and more comfortable. Really good wristies are those.

They are pretty normal looking wristies. But..despite them all looking pretty similar the quality/comfort can be quite different. The flexmeter ones mentioned in this thread are probably the best around but are quite costly.

I just got a pair of these exact wrist guards... and they kind of terrify me. They are a little snug on me, perhaps I should have gotten a medium (although my size small elbow pads of the same brand fit perfect) so that might be part of the problem...

They have a plate on the backside that (presumably) is to prevent hyper-extension like the Flexmeter brand guards, however when I put my hand down to simulate a fall, I wind up with that back plate digging directly into the back of my knuckles, with my fingers taking the full weight of the fall.

I'm all for protecting my wrists, but not at the cost of shattering my hand.

So I snipped some threads at the back of the velcro on the back side (oddly enough, the palm wrist plate is easily replaceable, but they sew the back one in) and pulled out the top plate. Now they seem like great little wrist guards.

Maybe it's just my lack of experience with wrist guards, or maybe it's just that I got a size too small (although without that back plate, they now fit pretty well). I know modifying safety gear is rather a poor idea... but most wrist guards only have the palm guard, correct?

For what it's worth, I'm very happy with the TSG brand elbow pads, just a little confused with their wrist guard design.

The idea of wrist guards is to prevent the hand being pushed back to the point that the wrist snaps. The plastic is there to deform with the bending of the wrist taking energy out of the impact. Not sure why there is a stiffener on the top as well??? Does the lower piece go up your wrist as well as your palm?
All the guards I have seen so far only have stiffeners on the bottom and a method of binding them to the wrist over the top.
Don't know if this is of any help but I would lokk at getting another set of guards that fit!

Actually a pretty standard (cheapish) design. It shouldnt be a problem. Mine arnt. When I fall my hands slide. There are better products mind. Maybe they are too big not too small

Well, sounds like they dont fit properly whatever. Mine dont slip and end before my knuckles..

Basically it's like your hand is sandwiched between two plastic plates.. which is probably great for protecting your wrist, but the plate on the back seemed to basically be holding my hand in place and leaving my fingers the only flexible extremity. Kind of like if you wore a hard cast as protective gear.. great at protecting what's inside it, but imagine trying to catch all your falling weight when the only thing that can change angle is your fingers.

Anyway, haven't had to rely on them in a fall yet, but they fit much nicer without the back plate, and still seem like they'll protect from skids or direct "catch myself" injuries.
