2010 thoughts for the sport
« on: September 20, 2009, 08:18:33 AM »
Well dispite a bit of an Indian summer, i thought Id stay inside a bit longer and pen a few thoughts. I hope it will induce others to pop things down here too. On a personal, group, national level, on meets, on kit on well whatever.

At an individual level well I wanna flip, but hey theres always 2011 for that and 201.... For the Jurassic Jumpers, I want it to get deeper and stronger. Id like to see the Portsmouth people 'do stuff for themselves'. I want to build the Bournemouth/Poole part of the group back up so that its atleast as big and lively as the Pompy crew. I want the JJ's to host a bigger weekend meet.

The last bit is something Id like to see replicated all over the country. With clubs generally becoming 'deeper and stronger'. We have CB sorted for mid August. But I think that should be seen as the centre of a plateau of events. More events, flagged indvance and well spaced will at the very least reduce the influence of the weather as atleast 1 event should be dry and fine.

We have 'Walk for life' and Hallowene pretty much set into a calander too. THe numbers may not be stellar, but that can be worked on over time. Abroad there will probably be Aubria in mid July and possibly Mallorca. Many years ago in my canoeing days, I seem to recall a number of small towns that clung to the sides of river vallys. Matlock Bath and the Hieghts of Abraham seem to ring a bell with me. Many of these places had wide riverside walks, town gardens and now most probably a skate park. Well used to not just canoeists but also walkers, climbers and mountain bikers these places are well served by camp and caravan sites. Wouldnt such a place serve as a good place for a weekend meet? With the added oppertunity of a cross country bock too. Some where in Derbyshire would probably be a draw for a fair few northern bockers, though the Welsh boarders offer oppertunities too.

At a kit level. Id like to see manufacturers stumping up some more royalty money to Herr Boeck so that we can have a desent, affordable, tilting footplate.

Perhaps Boeck shouldn't be such an idiot with how he uses the patent.

Noooooooo. Tilting footplates FTW :P

We have CB sorted for mid August. But I think that should be seen as the centre of a plateau of events.
The problem with that is it would take the focus away from CB, and reduce it's impact. CB is meant to be the big meet up of the year, the one everyone strives to attend. If there are meets of a similar scale throughout the year, it makes it a little pointless.

i recon the sprt is gonna stay the same as it already is

youll have ur crazy inthusiasts of the sport like the JJ team and all the others tht there are

then ull get the littler ppl tht use them becoz there the new trend they look good ull be the conversation of the town with the stilts so really i dont think bocking can get any smaller all it can do is get bigger and better youll get more and more adreniline junkies doing the sport to more extremes and maybe one day boeck will give a nutter his patents that will make a new stilt nobody knows all i know is boeck is making lots of money on the stilts that are already there why would he spend more money on them if there already making him rich :P

the future for bocking is bright XD hopefully :P

..I think I just ruined the thread...I better say something sensible to make up for it. Some people say bocking has slowed down lately..but for others it's gone nuts. It's all about being in the right place...and if you are not then making it be one of the right places :)

Yep so I think that 2010 bocking should have more cats in sofa beds... But on b more serious note I will continue to teach at least 1 person to use them whereever I can.. I can't organise much else but would like to start charging for teaching and hire in the future.. Just depends on the finances which are terrible at the mo... Looking forward to a better year for 2010... Here's to the footur... P
