I have a Yammy Fazer 600 S2...Been riding motorbikes since I was 15....24 years later and I've still not grown out of them....I'm busted up plenty from getting off the ride while it's still going and lost too many friends already,so,consider this...If you carry a pillion, it's not just your life in your hands, they ALWAYS come off worse. Like any good Bocker, buy the best protective equipment you can afford....Sliding on Tarmac at high speed seems to have a somewhat detrimental effect on human flesh/bone in that it removes at the very least a centimeter for every 100 meters you slide....CBT(Compulsory Basic Training is a legal requirement in Jersey) may well just save your life one day, when they ask you what a "life saver" is, it's a quick look over your shoulder before you overtake or turn at a junction. Get to know your machine, how it works and why it does what it does.Basic maintenance know how is also a requirement as is the highway code...They'll ask you questions about this. As long as you let your common sense prevail, you'll be as safe as you can be on a motorcycle....Trust me, it's a life on a very jagged edge when you're doing 90,boxed in by those tired pilots in their customised metal coffins.....I'm not trying to put anyone off,to me, bikes are the most fun anyone can have with their clothes on,but humans were'nt made to cope with what happens when it goes tits up....The coffin pilots have a metal box around them..... Even with all the leather and armour,a biker is as naked as a streaker at a cricket match....Still wanna ride? Can't say I blame ya....Just grow eyes in your ass and go careful OK?

Now there was a colourful explenation! I have lost friends the same way, and would take as much training as I could get. I have only really just started to drive a car, and I am going to get used to that 1st before I look into this too much. I love the look and sound of bikes, and would love to be able to learn to control one properly, safely.

Heh! Your wits will be the key to your survival Hex....By their nature, bikes are life-takers and heart-breakers. I rode for 10 years  before I learnt to pilot a coffin, and as a biker, I've seen just how blind these coffin pilots are...."Sorry mate, I did'nt see you" won't cut the mustard when you go over his bonnet....You have to think for them as well as yourself....It's called "defensive riding".... Stay alive....

At the moment Hex I have a 125 sx MZ (yes I know but they have improved beyond belief  )

I agree with the "be careful" speech I have been riding in and out of central london in rush hour for some 15 years now and have lost count of the accidents (lucky none to serious) and all on L plates (I never took my test just kept taking the CBT every few years) the wife recons I'm dangerous enough on a 125  :haha:

It's funny ( well not really ) how many car drivers think they can just jump on a 125 and drive without trake any extra test  :Dark_Knight:

JASON you may not be legal for the road !
Your CBT only last 2 years and you can't renew for 3 years ! This is to stop people learners not bothering with the road test !? Car drivers only need to take the test once.
I maybe wrong but I do believe that's the fact !

Thanks for the concern DK but I take my CBT every 2 years and have checked with three different bike schools that it's OK
Due to the age of my license I am allowed to do this indefinitely (yes I'm really old) also allowed to tow very large trailers without a further test and drive 7 1/2 tonners

And for some strange reason they gave me a tracked vehicle enablement for a while (Weeee I can drive a Tank have you got a spare one Hex  :haha: )

The 3 year rule is for newer licences

Hex she puts me on the horse when he is having a bad day  :haha: so Bocks are a walk in the park (she also gets good insurance on me )

:haha: Why don't you just take the test ya big wuss!!!! I'd wager there ain't much you couldn't do, and it'd be a walk in the park on an MZ! Well, more of a ride around some orange cones,an emergency stop an getting up the examiner's nose whilst trying to lose him in the traffic..... Kinda hard to lose anyone on an MZ though, unless they fall off!!!  Just yankin' ya stilt Reaper. "It ain't what you ride,it's how you ride it".....

This is what I ride. A Black Yamaha DT. Only mine has a slight mod to protect the brake and clutch (and look cooler ;) )

And as soon as I have enough money, I want one of these 2 bikes. A Yamaha R1. Also in Black. ;) I'm not getting on if it's not black! 8)

Or the Kawasaki Z1000... in Black. ;D

My Dad rides a Yamaha V-Max 1200 (Special Edition - extra black! lol)

Everyone's dreams sit aloft a rungless ladder. Some ladders are higher than others. Some are so tall they reach high above the clouds - but everyone can see their dream. Most people see that their ladder has no rungs and although they may talk about climbing it one day, seeing no way to get there, they eventually give up and settle for what lies beneath it.
The brave however, the wise, the imaginative and the strong of will seek out their missing rungs. They learn all they can about the ladder, they surround themselves with friends and family who would also find the rungs, and failing all else they craft the steps themselves with their own two hands from nothing. Sometimes a rung breaks and the person falls. Some of these people will fall too hard and lose the strength to climb again - Yet they feel comfort in knowing they tried. They became better for it. And they experienced things and witnessed sights upon the climb that those who sat forever beneath it will never know.
Then there are the special few who find new steps, or fix and climb again the ones that failed. Who eventually, through sheer tenacity and courage come to reach the final rung - Only they will have their dreams fulfilled. The extraordinary then build new ladders. These are the strongest people of all.

I don't see the point in Goldwings and such. Half the fun of having a bike is slowly filtering through a traffic jam, smiling and waving at the angry car drivers. ;D Wide bikes can't do that.
