Non black soles
« on: March 14, 2010, 10:15:39 PM »
Any one know where we can get non black hoof rubber from? Either as replacements or material to make hoofies? similar to the pic. Tho most of us have the replaceable rubbers!
Naz does PJ do anything?
The issue is marks on the gym floor which I want to prevent becoming a problem :CGEEK:

Could make some non-marking tire socks. Toddy used to do them. They worked :)

First obvious and quick fix would be to get white bicycle tyres as Spud has suggested and make tyre socks

But you might find that they then leave white marks on the floor

I tried several compounds while making MK2 hoofies and found that most of them left marks of one sort or another

The least likely to leave marks was the crepe sole type material but it gripped like Ice  :Claugh:

One last quick fix is a Q type mini trainer on the hoof

As they are designed to be used in gyms all you have to do is buy the right size and as they would only be used in the gym they should last ages

Only down side is looking a right plonker  :Claugh: (only joking they look quite cool)

I'm using racing bike tyres (cycle), and they dont leave marks on the gym floor. I've tried mountain bike, and motor bike tires, and they leave marks. Is the area you use in the gym small enough to clean up after you're done? you could bring some old towels and remove the marks at the end of the session.

Tried that! didn't work,  :Cnah: we were wondering about some sort of cleaning fluid???
But you're right, the MTB tyres of one of the guys were by far the worst. :Cmask:

Both poweriSer and 7's do tan hooves, and both fit PJs :)

If using solvents, rubber is very easy to remove, the problem you may have is removing painting or finish on a gym floor, and I'm not sure how a gym would react to spraying any thing on a floor any way.

WD-40 would actually be my first choice to test - it works well at softening rubber, does not leave a lubricating residue, and is pretty safe on most surfaces, oh, and it is cheap.

I'm not sure if alcohol will help (never tested it) and acetone could remove the finish of the floor, and I think both of those smell as well, which would be bad.

its been suggested in the past to go to a cobbler and have them bascially resole your bocks like they would resole and old shoe.  That is the method recommended for Powerskips i think.  Some have tried it and with the right sole shouldn't mark, but i don't think the shoe rubber lasts very long in outdoor use.

Still think that a pair of cheep baby size 13 trainers will be the easiest solution
