Powdercoat frame?
« on: April 08, 2011, 06:49:10 PM »
Hi guys,

my brothers on about getting a pair of pro-jump bocks and he was wondering if it would be safe to powdercoat the frame?  As with powdercoating u can get a near mirror coulored finish and he thinks it would make them a bit different.

Thanks

Not to sure on the type of powder coating you are suggesting but a couple of things to keep in mind

To get a mirror finnish you have to have a flat surface to start with and this would mean abrading and polishing the surface
This would remove a certain amount of material thus weakening the object

Most coating processes involve either heat, chemicals or both some chemicals can weaken alloys and heat (depending on how much) can soften alloys (anealing)

The person to tell you if any of this will affect the bocks would be an expert in the coating you intend to use but I would imaging they will want to know the exact material the bocks are made of and that may be a problem as the factorys understandably don't like telling people

The other way is to coat them and test them after (just use them) but remember this would probably invalidate the warrenty
