Is there a need for the ProJumpforum?
« on: August 12, 2011, 06:18:13 PM »
Over the last year it seems that many bockers & groups have moved away from forums such as PJF and PP in favour of facebook. In light of this, do you still feel that there is a need for a forum such as PJF?

Please discuss.

Yes
All that Carl said and more

The newbey still come here and all those old posts are a mine of info

So as a first point of contact for people looking to buy stilts when they don't have a group near or don't want to start with a group it is invaluable

We still give out cards at our meets and a few people have contacted us from here

I talk to a lot of people that used to be active on here but now just check in once a week to see if anything new is about of if there is a meet

I think the problem at the moment is more a sort of overall lethergy in this country at the moment as most people I know seem to have had a bad couple of years and money is short everywhere so getting to a meet comes second to eating  :Claugh:

Hi,  I would also like to Forum to remain active.

When I first started using bocks, I found the Forum invaluable for advice, tips, dos and don'ts.  There is such a depth of knowledge on the previous posts on maintainance and as well as technique, that I don't think you could cover all of that on a Facebook group.

Whilst you could undoubtedly do some of this on Facebook, I don't think you could discuss in such depth as here.

Graham

Hmmmmmmm........Why did I buy these again?!?!?!?

Hi

I think the forum is very important, because:

- not everybody does yet have facebook
- when searching on google Fora can be found, and facebooks discussions not
- in fora topics are easier found, and I believe facebook does not store all discussions older than a certain date, which of course moves

Dont be so ridiculous Naz.

None of us would know each other without the forums. Facebook takes things further than that but the forums are still the crucial first steps.

Besides if there was no PJF then what the hell would DK do for the rest of his life?

Thanks guys, just wanted to get the general idea of whether it still has a part to play for the community. From the amount of messages I've received privately as well, I understand that the forum is quite important to many of you but it seems a lot of you tend to read it rather than post.

I know that as a business running a forum, some may see it as a conflict, but I must stress the forum is pretty much stand alone and is probably less biased than independent forums, it's definitely not a profit making machine for us and probably costs us more to run, admin and maintain than what it gives us back (not forgetting the generous discounts forum members often get too!) The contributions from myself and other members of the admin / mod team is also voluntary, and trust me there's enough headache to deal with other than the spam generated, that many of you have no idea about, is still going on in the background, caused by disgruntled  bockers...

Don't worry I wouldn't make the decision to close the forum just like that, as I do truly believe it belongs to all the people who have contributed to it in the past & will do in the future, but I do feel that in order to keep it going strong, members need to make it theirs and start contributing, sharing & commenting on what others are doing, otherwise I do see it dying a slow death...

I say on behalf of all the RiserRaptors'
if possilbe we would love a riser raptor section on the forum aswell along with the other bocking gorups :)
thank you Naz and all of the mods :)

hi guys
for a newbe this is the most valuable site i have ever found.
due to my job (within the prison service)i am not allowed to use facebook. :Cno:
without this site i would be very lost as some company's you purchase from dont freely give vital info on whats good or bad about some bock setups. :Cmad:
clothing, safety goodies, where to go,what is the best way to start etc (you get the idea).
so Please,Please,Please dont close the forum down. :Csmile:
regards
kev

Good heavens Naz, what are you thinking???  :Cchatterbox:

Just for a moment let’s look at it objectively.  :CGEEK:
Facebook? Why would a group us it?
Time! We all only have a limited time to spend on line, (usually) so we log on to Facebook to catch up with our LOCAL FRIENDS from ALL PARTS of our lives not specifically Bocking. We know our LOCAL FRIENDS will do the same so it makes sense to organise our LOCAL bounce in the park where we know the guys who can come out to play will see it quickly. After all I’m sure the rest of the world doesn’t want to read endless posts asking who can come down the local car park for a bounce if it doesn’t rain this afternoon!
So in this respect Facebook is like your local evening paper, lots that’s relevant to you that no one else give a toss about.
PJF? Why do we need it?
Knowledge! I suppose you could say if bocking was as common as football we probably wouldn’t but it isn’t! Everything I know about the sport has come from the members of  PJF. Everything I pass on to any new guys in our group comes from PJF. Without PJF, in the two years I’ve had my bocks I would not have met anyone else, never been to a meet. Would probably packed in because I didn’t know what else you can do on them. Would have to ring you for every little problem because I wouldn’t know where to ask for help.  Worn out the hooves and damaged the springs because I didn’t know how to protect them etc. The list goes on.
Having just come back from Capital Bock, despite having a glass back an unable to do much, I thoroughly enjoyed myself, as I’m sure every one there did.  I meet a great many others from all over the country who are not on my facebook list! And this was all down to the ability to talk to the whole bocking community and organise such an event.

So to sum up… Facebook is useful to organise your local bounce in the park with you mates, because you know they will see it.
PJF and its members, is the source for everything stilts and the only place you can contact bockers you don’t know to get together with or ask questions of.

So please listen to us… we need the forum!!!!!  Please.  :Cnotworthy:

I'd like to put forward the notion that naz is insane and should be removed from office at once!

It is your own section though. All the groups have these, and they are not very well used but it's there if you need it or dont have a website of your own.
