A fellow archer what sort of bows do you use

I started with crossbows moved onto recurves and compound hunters got into making my own hickory longbows and N american indian flat bow and recurve hunter Oh and fletching of course (cheeper when you do field as I am a lousy shot and used to break/loose a lot of arrows)  ;D

It must be a year since I picked up one of my bows I think I'll take the longbow out this weekend

By removing the 9mm tongue bar I have there and just push it through (like my profile pic).

how long did it take you to grow that in? did it hurt at first?

I am shooting Longbows, I have 2, 1 Avalon 35lb and 1 Bickerstaff 45lb.

I do field shoots aswell, where do you shoot? I usually attend the shoots at Peris Archery.

I havent gotten around to fletching yet, we have a guy at our club doing it for us, its a lil expensive as you say.

That doesn't sound hard  ???
Field shooting ....... Fields are great big things ! You'd have a hard time missing one, unless you hit the board side of a barn !  ;D

Let me educate you.

A Field Shoot conists of targets placed around an estate, with markers to shoot from, 3different colours, red, blue and white, red is furthest from the target, and hardest, then blue and then white.
You have to stand with your leading foot against the peg and take one shot from each, coupled with distance, there are also objects in the way, for example a tree, or a bush, sometimes even a lake, aswell as the target being at a diffferent height usually below, but it can be above.
You get points for a kill or a wound, obviously more from the 1st peg and less from the last.

Not as easy as it sounds

Hex

I used to shoot  longbow at Oxshot wood (Esher) with the Company of Sixty and crossbow with the Knights of St George

Saddly I let both memberships lapse about 10 years ago lucky for me we keep a horse at a farm and the owner lets me shoot there whenever I like

My recurves are 50 and about 48lb the longbows 50 and 65lb no idea about the flat but I would guess at 60 and the crossbow is an old barnett commando (self loading )110lb prod

I did shoot a 90lb longbow for a while but it was a tad to heavy (after about 5 shots my arm used to go numb  ;D )

I tried to lighten it and the top limb snapped on full draw boy did I have a headache that day could have been worse the bottom one could have snapped  ;D

I was very lucky when I started as Longshot Archery in Hampton was my local shop (its moved now but not to far )

As for easy DK my speciality was not noticing the tree in the way and managing to ricochet the arrow in a complete u turn it broke into several bits two of which stuck in my jeans and I did it twice off the same peg on different days

Hear do I get a prize for being the first person to shoot myself with a longbow  ;D
