Out of alignment
« on: December 22, 2007, 09:29:07 AM »
Heya,
Just got a pair of Powerizers recently tho i've been stilt walking for a while, i'm over seas at the moment but mostly based in London.
I've been having a run around on them and it's awesome fun however the bocker on my left leg feels really wonky and keeps twisting, i've had a look at them and it looks like the spring is out of alignment.  Does anyone know how i can ajust the position of my foot plate? I've had a look and guess it's something to do with the side rods but thought i'd come here and ask you guys before messing with them myself.  Any clues?

It's always best to post some pictures so we can see what you mean ?
It may not be the foot plate, check to see if it the bearings that's worked loose ?

Hi Orreries

First check all the nuts and bolts to make sure that nothing is loose obvious I know but it has been known for them to arrive with a loose nut or bolt

Next if they started out OK and no thing is loose also if the wonky stilt makes a clacking noise when you walk of jump check the white plastic packers (If you had them some early models did'nt) look here for info on where to look and how to repair/replace

http://www.projumpforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=473.0
http://www.projumpforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=326.0

If none of this is relevant then you can adjust the rods either side I would measure them all to see if they are all the same length and again check the nuts ET had one come loose some time ago and it did a lot of damage before he realised

I had a similar problem and found that I have a slightly bowed led on my right side so I made a set of cuffs to enable me to adjust the whole stilt to one side to compensate but if you have used Dura stilts or similar before and not found a problem this won't be the case because when I tried them the problem was really obvious

As for adjusting the rods I suggest once you have made sure that every thing is straight and the same length try adjusting one side a couple of turns longer or shorter to see if it improves the problem or makes it worse then just keep fiddling until they feel right

Hope some of this helps post if not and maybe some pics so we can see if every thing looks straight

Hello and welcome to the forum..

The easiest method to check that the frame is not twisted in any way is to imagine a line going from the center of the top of the frame all the way down to the hoof, if the alignment’s correct then this line should finish about the center of the hoof, if the frame is distorted then the imaginary line will not fall in the center.

I've done a picture to show you how it should be if the frame is right and also distorted a picture to show you how the line may look if the frame is twisted.

If the frame is twisted then you need to get in touch with the seller straightaway and they will be able to help you out.

thats the same problem I had @ Capital Bocking.....Sprog and Bobman fixed it, so I am guessing he is the best person to get a response from.

Right, basically there are 2 things that could have gone wrong here...
Either your support rods are set at different lengths, which will cause your footplate to be wonky and thus push the spring out of alignment, OR (this is where it gets bad) your entire section of frame with the footplate on is warped and twisted.

Check if the bolts on your support rods are at equal lengths apart. They should be the same, like so:

If they're not equal, make sure they are.

There should not be a gap between the horizontal section and the bolts. If there is it will look like this:

If there isnt a gap, it will look like this:

If there is a gap, or the lower bolts are missing completely... your footplate will have been moving whilst you are jumping, causing increased pressure on one side. This will have caused pressure down the entirety of the frame that the footplate is attached to, causing it to twist and warp.
This is a BIG problem and a BIG job to fix if this has happened.

You will need to replace the entire section of frame, which requires removing the footplate, bindings, support rods, and then unattaching it from the main back frame and the lower cross-piece frame that attaches to the hoof.
This is an utter b***h to do as the horizontal bar that the support rods go through is held in place with little clips that require specialist tools or about 30 minutes of brute force from about 5 different people to get off. We had to transfer this across as the frame we were using to replace it had it missing, and I suspect if you got a section of that frame it might not come with it either...

That said, when we (myself and bobman) did this we had no access to the specialist tools, nor to a brand new section of frame. And it was the first time we'd ever attempted such a big job, and we were doing it on a wet park bench in the middle of London... We ended up replacing the section on ET's ProJumps with a section from a spare 7League boot Locky (Uncle Matt) had lying around in his car as he's a seller of 7's, and it took about 2 hours overall.

If yours are in warranty you might be able to claim it. If you can, try and get a whole new bock and just transfer the spring over. It'll be a lot less effort, or if they'll only give you the footplate frame, ask for it with the horizontal piece in, so you don't have to worry about transfering that over (that's the most effort tbh)
Please can you try and get some head on photos of your bocks, your support rods, and a side and front view along the frame under the footplate. That way i'll be able to tell what exactly is going on.

To give you an idea, here's me and bobman working on ET's when we had to replace the frame:

And try not to panic too much ;)

Nice one Sprog good pics to

Just to add to that the tool you need (if it gotes that far) is a set of external circlip pliers or universal circlip pliers (do both internal and external)
You can get a set from a decent motor factors (or even halfords  ;)) a cheep set should cost between £10 and £15 some hardware stores sell them as well once you have this tool removing the bar that holds the stays in place is easy but the rest of the job will be long winded

But hopefully it won't be that bad

Thanks gyus for all the help,
I've got in contact with the supplyer cause i've noly just taken them out of their packet and so they're well in warrentie and insure for shipping damage too, they looked just like the pics our great webmaster put up for me and i'm no mech so i decided to let the pros sort it out, hopefully i'll get a responce in the next couple of days and see what they say, in the mean time i'm grounded cause i don't wanna damage them more or rip my knee (which was the threat the bockers were giving when i was running)
Hopefully they just send a whole new stilt and take this busted one back cause i don't wanna be messing around trying to fix them all by myself up here in nowhere vill New Zealand and making matters worse.
When i get back home to old blighty lter in the year i'll have to come out and have a bounce with some of you guys, get some tips and tricks. Thanks very much for all your help so far, i'll et you know how it goes with the supplyer and see where we are then.

Yeah, if you just recieved them its always better to phone up your retailer before you mess about with them as then you would invalidate your warranty :)

English Tailor is in Newton, Auckland New Zealand if you were near him and had ur bocks you could have had a bock together as his a tigger at the moment!

Update:
I've just got this e-mail from my supplier, Power Jumperz.com, it's quite outrageous and i'm following it up.  just thought i'd let yo guys know and to see if anyone else has had problems with them.  The jumpers came with just a single layer of bubble wrap around them and barely any instructions, the only info i got was how to tie my supports and even that was written in "ingrish" and made very little sense.

--------

Hi Rick,
Thank your for your time. The Power Jumperz are checked before
dispatching and packaged for maximum protection, however sometimes these kind
of shipping damages occur due to mishandling of the carrier. For the left
side you need to adjust for yourself , for the right one ,we can
provide you free it but delivery does not qualify for free shipping for it .
 Please advise us .

If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to contact us,

Kind Regards,

--------

What a bunch of RUBBISH!!! how's that supposed to help me? plus i spent the extra when i bought them to isure against damage during shipping.  *sighs* anyone got any ideas?

here's a couple of pics i sent to the supplier too.

From above

Hi there

Looking at the pictures they are skyrunners, if you brought them in the UK they are illegal.

From the pictures it's obvious the frame is bent, if you paid extra for the insurance then they should be getting these collected from you and replaced.

Tell them you paid for the extra insurance and see what they say as well.

Also how long have you had these? and could you have cuased this damage somehow?

Powerjumperz.com are an illegal seller first off, so you're a bit screwed already.
Secondly, those are certainly skyrunners, which leaves you even more screwed over than before.

I hate to tell you this but you'be basically bought a load of crap.
See if they'll replace both, if not report it as a faulty product which arrived that way, and get them to take them back and refund you.
Then buy yourself some poweriZers, which are same as Pro-Jumps and all I know of in NZ... There are no sellers for poweriSer or 7Leagues out there yet... Second job for ET perhaps? ;D

Shame i didn't find you guys first eh?

It's interesting that you say they are illegal concidering they have a very pro website, illegal in what way? shouldn't somone be going to trading standards if they're illegal? they send me a DVD with a bunch of vids i 've seen on you tube on it, i guess we should let those guys know there stuffs being used without concent.

thanks for the heads up, shame it wasn't a bit earlier, i'll contact the seller and see what they'll do.  From the communications i've had from them so far tho i don't have hgh hopes.

Another option for you Orreries

If you get no joy from the company that sold them to you try this (it works in England but I don't know about NZ)

How did you pay for them if it was by credit card and you or the person that payed for them are the main cardholder contact your credit card company most of them will take up the fight for you if the goods are over £100 and if they were unfit for the purpose that they were sold for (which they clearly are)

The advantage of this is even if they don't stop the payment and refund you they have the big stick of blacklisting the selling company and without the ability to process credit cards they go out of buisness very quick so tend to sort the customer out very fast and you normaly get either a refund or replacement

But you have to do various things like contact them quick and follow all the credit card companys guidelines (should be a helpline number on the card or the monthly Bill)

I have in the past got a very fast response from a difficult company just by saying that I will contact the Card company

And if you can always pay by credit card it protects you quite a lot

Powerjumperz.com are an illegal seller first off, so you're a bit screwed already.
It's interesting that you say they are illegal concidering they have a very pro website, illegal in what way?

The Jumping Stilts are a patented product, this means that in certain countries where the inventor has patent right each seller must pay royalties to him.

In the UK only about 5 importers are allowed to sell this product and are legal, some countries are not within the patented areas therefore any one can sell there.

So, the Stilts you brought will only be illegal if you got posted them in the UK not if they were sent to N Z!

Also the other thing to remember is its not only the brand that may be illegal the seller could be as I know of some PoweriZer sites which are illegally selling poweriZers so it's not as simple as if they are poweriZers they are legal :)

Also I'd go with what Jason said, if you paid by credit card get in touch with your card company.

Good Luck!

I bought it with an english credit card so thanks Jason i'll keep that one in mind.  I'm gonna see what the company say first on just lettting me send it back and getting me a refund, then i'll just wait till i'm back in the UK and get a pair from here or summin.  Thanks for all your help guys!
