Lincoln is a hellish trek from Norwich, and the roads are mostly single carriageway which makes for insanely slow trundling driving stuck behind lorries and difficult to overtake - ARGH!!!!!  It's not classed as "East Anglia" either, is it??

Want me to sound out the UEA for the hire of their halls?

If you get the chance to ask Gixer then that would be awsome, Im having trouble getting the time to go down there, as nobody seems to understand down the phone what they are! When I next get the chance, I will take mine to volleyball and show them.

It originally seemed that most of the bockers accessing this forum were having difficulty getting access to gyms.

I work in Sport in Lincolnshire and was prepared to help the group get a training venue with equipment and possibly gymnastic expertise to help you learn in a safe environment.

If you can get a venue nearer "East Anglia" go for it as it makes sense.

I will not therefore continue to progress the venue for the EA bockers unless specifically asked to. I do not want to p**s of my contacts or put my rep on the line if no-one can get.

What you ave possible lined up is fantastic. Thank you very much. I understand with the rep thing. It is important. Its so hard to get a gym and one that everybody can get to. maybe we just need to bomb every place with a sportshall near here and see how it goes. I remember  a school that my dad played cricket inside at weekends. My school should be building a gym so will be open at weekends so maybe then we could use the old one. everything is worth a try.

Just so people know how much effort should be put in a gym meet, who would definatly be interested?

I think the biggest problem is that this thread is hijacked with other conversation, I think there was proper interest in your gym meet and many of the regular EA's want to come up to the meets and some were defos, I would suggest you start a new thread just asking people who definately can show committment to reply. To keep it on topic any off topic convo I can take off the thread.

I think the EA's would be gutted if this opportunity is taken off the table so to speak.

I was just talking generally and wasn't aiming at anyone let alone you :)

And don't worry its a forum and topics go haywire all the time, as one post bounces off another and then before you know it we forget what the original question was  ;)

I'd also recommend that if Spud you can pursue the gym you think may give you guys access near you and Gixer to sound out the UEA, then you would have many possible venues to train in as well and that would open up more options for you.

Sounds like a plan  ;D  I've asked around on the UEA staff email network too if anyone knows of halls for hire, but so far zippo  :(

How long would you want the hall for - 2 hours?  More?

I think recently one of the gyms JJ's had previously used, didn't let them use it for their upcoming meet.. that's why I think if   an opportunity arises with the equipment etc you really should be grabbing it with both hands!

Also with the one Charlie B is offering you are getting a few sessions, plus equipment and possible proffessional help so its an even better opportunity.

It does sound great but it's just a bit of a trek for me :(  Would it be on a weekend?  Only other thing is to organise lift-shares from Norwich?

Happy to book first Saturday in March

Understand the issue with travel.

If you want to book venues you must show that you will be proficient and safe so you need some person or people with the following

1) First Aid Qualification
2) Child Protection Qualification (if U18 attending)
3) CRB checked
4) Experience in leading sports events (coach or SLA qualification or experience)
5) if no coaching qual then you need to be able to asses safety and risks on site

talk to County Sports partnership or Local Sports Development Officers as well

Spud

SLA is Sports Leaders Award aimed at over 16`s most schools and colleges will know about this & put you on a course if you want.

Other stuff is run by different sports organisations primarily sports coach UK.

Courses are taking place all the time. I can get people on courses in Lincolnshire others like me exist in other Counties. Quite often there is little or minimal costs for volunteers.

CRB checks can be done via your County Council or Local Authority Sports Development Officers. Again this is generally free for volunteers.

A level 1 coaches course normall costs £80-£100. For bocking gymnastics would be best bet (as it is for Parcour) until such time as the sport develops a national governing body.

Again there can be help from local authorities with the cost.

as this is a bit off topic please e mail me if you want anymore info
