Gixer

Unfortunately we live in a society that will sue at every opportunity. I have experience ofSolicitors waiting outside school gates asking kids if they have hurt themselves at school & then going legal.

I have also seen coaches taken to court over not providing a safe environment so it is understandable that the authorities are cautious. It also protects the coaches and those leading sport.

Happy to book first Saturday in March

Understand the issue with travel.

If you want to book venues you must show that you will be proficient and safe so you need some person or people with the following

1) First Aid Qualification
2) Child Protection Qualification (if U18 attending)
3) CRB checked
4) Experience in leading sports events (coach or SLA qualification or experience)
5) if no coaching qual then you need to be able to asses safety and risks on site

talk to County Sports partnership or Local Sports Development Officers as well

do we all need to have all of those things or between the group i have a sports leader award thing i got from college, its only a low level tho im CRC checked if someone has the first aid and we could just ban the u18's jokin guys

How about this place?

http://www.activenorfolk.org/activity_search.asp?itemid=159&itemtype=venue&section=0001000100030008

Lady called Jo Thompson 07757-982959

Andrea at work wanted to hire it for kids gymnastics and Jo apparently said "she'd consider it" but Andrea hasn't got back to her since so not sure if the place is hire-able or not.

No you only need to CRB check those people who are directly involved in working with children.

People can offer advice as club members at any time but you would need to allocate someone to be the lead with the U18`s. Suggest this person also goes thru a child protection course (for thier own protection)

hi, just a lil note on the insurance, child protection stuff etc.  Down in bournemouth we have been using a gym atleast twice a month since September. At 1st meet in jan we got a health and safty inspection(including a 5 page questioaire ive had to fill out). Once i get my filled in copy back from being scanned, Ill post and do a talk thru. Some of the questions do look daunting.

Glad to say no probs we get on really well with them. They have askeed us to  demonstrate to kids on open days ans stuff. Oh ans we dont have insurance of the child inspection stuff( tho do have U16's).

1 thig we have now put at the top of the gyms section of the JJ website is a note asking people to
a  bring pads
b  water

c let people know if they have had a recent injury or illness
d ask people to take breaks whenever they want
e do gentle warm up  cool down exercises at beginning and end of sessions

Up to individuals  if they want to do the above --- but its a protection for others.

Seems like a good idea. Then we should be able to deal with people in any situation and also shows the gym that we are lookin after people rite..those precaustion things are a good idea too

That may not be the best route. Basically showing the gym what we do is dangerous and we take no responsibiliy, or suggesting it. The trick is to know the H&S questions that will be thrown at you and have open and honest not 'clever' answers.

Id say bocking isnt terribly dangerouss , just looks it. I sometimes think the term 'extreme sports' is a doubleedged weapon at times. We push up the danger factor ---and the wrong people believe it.

Really useful to se the H&S questionaire as soon as possible

Do need a medical form authorising organisers (or club) to allow the administering of first aid to those under 16. There are generic forms of the Sport England website. Scouts forms are similar.

We may also need people to sign some form of document agreeing that they are taking part at thier own risk.

We have got some like that for gliding...however we do have insurance (WE JUST FOUND WAS INVALID) but I think it will still work. I will read it and see if adjustments can be made.

Hiya, forgive me for asking, but is this gym meet in Lincoln only for East Anglians, or can any of us attend?  Myself and my girlfriend would be interested in coming, as it is 30 minutes up the A1 for us

Just a couple of questions............

1. Does every guy/gal that goes who is over 18 need a crb???
2. Do we need a crb done by that leisure centre or will crb from other places (e.g. scouts, work) do????
3.Do we need 1 person to adminster all the first aid for the meet??? and if so do they need a full first aid??? or would first respsonse cover us???
4. is there a train station close to the sports centre??? if not could anyone pick me and joe up from the train station???

There is a chance i could be leaving for new job on 1st of march so might not be able to meet but will find out this thursday so will keep you guys posted.

:D
