Bocking Game?
« on: February 24, 2009, 10:33:20 PM »
Hello all, I only just stumbled across the games on these forums, and I was wondering, as i make games and such in flash, if I  (We)  should make a PowerBocking game? (And if one has already been made?)

Please post any suggestions, help, etc, here :)

I was thinking a side-scroller of sorts, just running around and jumping and stuff, collecting... I don't know, but just collecting something :) I've made Quite a few games before, but making the screen slide along will be a new one for me, but i have enough experience otherwise.

But any comments, criticism is welcome  :Claugh:

, Archie

:: EDIT: If anyone like to talk to me aboot it, add me on msn, archie_supernova@hotmail.com, or email me at insertnamehere@fsmail.net ::

Here are the 3 versions of the game so far:

#1: http://archieluxton.uuuq.com/Bocking%20game%20test%201.swf

#2: http://archieluxton.uuuq.com/Bocking%20game%20test%202.swf

#3: http://archieluxton.uuuq.com/bocking%20game%20test%203.swf

have fun. :p

There's a brilliant 2D flash version of Mirrors Edge. You could make one like that... but with bouncing. ^_^ I'd link you but I lost it.
Everyone's dreams sit aloft a rungless ladder. Some ladders are higher than others. Some are so tall they reach high above the clouds - but everyone can see their dream. Most people see that their ladder has no rungs and although they may talk about climbing it one day, seeing no way to get there, they eventually give up and settle for what lies beneath it.
The brave however, the wise, the imaginative and the strong of will seek out their missing rungs. They learn all they can about the ladder, they surround themselves with friends and family who would also find the rungs, and failing all else they craft the steps themselves with their own two hands from nothing. Sometimes a rung breaks and the person falls. Some of these people will fall too hard and lose the strength to climb again - Yet they feel comfort in knowing they tried. They became better for it. And they experienced things and witnessed sights upon the climb that those who sat forever beneath it will never know.
Then there are the special few who find new steps, or fix and climb again the ones that failed. Who eventually, through sheer tenacity and courage come to reach the final rung - Only they will have their dreams fulfilled. The extraordinary then build new ladders. These are the strongest people of all.

I can't do the amazing scriping of mirror's edge, but i can try. :) If you look up Portal: The flash version, I would like to have it that sort of neat-ness and clarity, with the thick black outline, but yeah, there will be plenty of bouncing : :Csmile: :Csmile:

::EDIT:  If someone could get me a side-on picture of someone on a pair, could they send it to me, please? I don't have a camera :( ::

Couple of people kicked the idea about for a while a year or so ago
and I believe someone actually started one but can't remember who

Try a search and you should find the thread

but flash games are silly, still fun, but i'm yet to see one that actually held my interest for long

did think about doing a 3D model(or getting someone else to XD) and making a mod for any of the quake 3 engine games(or any of the half-life engine ones, but i don't like modding them, just too overdone)

Thanks for the info, Jason, wish that would have gone through :(

But i have made some of the scripts for it, and have produced an EXTREMLY rough demo. Who wants to play? :p

(Post- script: Does it work for everybody? )

As i said (well, i didn't) that was rustled up in a minute, but i need ideas, please :) the proper game won't have bugs, it will have a menu screen, powerups, etc...
If people could send any ideas, photoshop pictures, or any general pictures, music, backgrounds, anything to help, it would be greatly appretiated, as i can't really carry on now without ideas :)

He should have a SuperSoaker for squirting chavs... or maybe a big stick.
If he trips over he could do a kip up to get up. And he could have to avoid
police and security guards who try to prosecute him for dangerous bocking
whilst being 71 years old.

Old controls/physics were better, remember when in midair you can't change direction when bocking (Unless you have a jetpack)

That's what i was thinking, so i'm sticking with the old control style, but I'm having trouble putting more platforms in!
I may just make a new (less complicated) code to stick to, I'm not sure..

Any flash gurus on here?  :Claugh:

Mirrors Edge. One of the best flash games I've played. :)
...Of course... I don't actually play a lot of games.

Jump Around was by House Of Pain, not Run DMC. But I HATE it
anyway! lol. Probably just because I've heard it way too much.

Hello all, I would like to sit down to a night of the bocking game, but i was wondering if we should have the character as a real picture, just cut up into symbols, as to simplify animation, or just animate it as we would anyway?

But in either case, could someone pleeeease send me a picture of a bock from the side, with some good lighting, and it would be wonderful if i could get a side-view of someone to stick in there aswell :)  This will still be a demo, but with just a better character, but I'm thinking if we can get the bocks good, then we should keep them models, but... i don't know

Thanks for the piccies, naz, But unfortunately, I'd already started modelling :( But if I/anyone Prefers that picture you sent me, I'll be happy to use it :)

But it's update time :)

I've decided to make a neater draft character, with every part of the body split up into symbols, as to make animation easier. I have also done this with the bocks (upwings, I think?)

But be absolutely honest, please, people- is this the right bock:Body Ratio?
I'm not too sure :(
