They look cool, but I think they are more show than practical.
The lights stick out from the footplate.. If you happen to fall forward, they will take the impact.
Also note, they only appear to light the general area of the hoof.
When your steps are 7 ft each, it is more important to see what is ahead. Granted, not many people would 'run' in the dark (

), and they will shine more forward when you step up...
More compact, and facing slightly forward at an angle would improve.
